A highly skilled staff will produce your product, exactly as you have designed it. You can also schedule a meeting with a designer who will assist you in creating products to meet your needs. Classroom Services Classroom Services will find and reserve classrooms or auditoriums for instructional sessions, conferences, special events, and academic purposes. AUDIO/VISUAL Equipment Rental Services: o Many types of projection or sound systems are available for UTMB faculty and staff to rent on a daily basis. o Equipment for your audio/visual needs is available for on campus rooms without installed equipment or at off-campus locations. o Technicians will deliver and set up the equipment upon request or will remain on site during your presentation to operate all equipment and assist the presenter as needed. Equipment Repairs: o Highly skilled personnel are available for repair needs. o Estimates of repair costs are available upon request. o All repair work is guaranteed. Equipment Installation: o Assistance is available in meeting your audio/visual needs and installing each device. o Certified personnel will meet you on site, discuss your needs and recommend the proper equipment. o Estimates, including costs for materials and labor, are available upon request. VIDEOCONFERENCING Staff will help you record and transmit lectures to other locations or place them on the web. Video editing services and conversion to digital format are also available. Photography Photographers are equipped with the latest digital technology to produce quality pictures. Photographs can be produced for: o Annual reports o Brochures o Lectures o Passports o Poster sessions o Portraits (in studio or on site) A digital library of photos is available for use by UTMB personnel and can be viewed in the Photography department. A small sample of images is available in the Online Digital Library on the Academic Resources web site. This center also provides an easy system for family and friends to purchase photographs taken during graduation ceremonies and other important campus events. Blocker History of Medicine Collections The Blocker History of Medicine Collections are housed in the Moody Medical Library and represents the largest and the most significant collection on the history of biomedical sciences in the southern United States. The special collection came into being largely through the efforts of Truman G. Blocker, Jr., M.D. (1909-84), surgeon, medical educator, and the first president of The University of Texas Medical Branch. The Truman G. Blocker, Jr. History of Medicine Collection consists of: Rare books (approximately 18,000 titles) Prints Archival materials Postage stamps honoring medical discoveries and pioneers Postcards Microscopes Medical instruments Early 20th century pharmaceutical collection The Rare Book Room is open to the public for tours. The department also provides photocopies, photographs, color slides and digital images of original materials for a fee. Document Delivery Document Delivery is the service which provides copies of articles from the Moody Medical Library s collection. This service also borrows articles, books or other documents from libraries throughout the United States and Canada. Reference and Educational Services Department The Reference and Educational Services Department offers a number of programs and special services to support the research, education, and patient care mission of UTMB. Reference Librarians serve as an interface between the faculty, staff, and students of UTMB and the information they seek. Librarians answer inquiries and assist clients in the use of the Library s resources and services. Classes are also available to individuals and groups at basic and advanced levels. Circulation Department The Circulation Department of the Moody Medical Library provides copy cards for use in the photocopiers and printers, houses the Reserve Collection, and checks out materials to clients. Copy Cards o Copies are 5 cents per page. o Copy cards are free, and the cash value can be added by clients in any dollar amount. Reserve Collection o Librarians select titles of popular texts to be on reserve to maximize availability to clients. o Faculty may request items in the Library s collection or place personal copies on reserve for the duration of a course. Borrowing Library Materials o Most items owned by the Library may be borrowed for use outside the Library building. o Materials may be returned to the book drops in three locations: the Circulation Department on the second floor of the Library, the book drop on the Library patio or the book drop outside the Learning Resource Center in the SAHS/SON building. Exception: All Reserve items and CDs must be returned to the Circulation Desk. o Items may be renewed as long as there is no hold on the item for another client. Renew materials online via the two links on the Library web page: Library Catalog or Checkout or Renew library materials. Items may also be renewed by calling the Circulation Desk at (409)-772-2385. Computer Labs Computer Labs provide convenient access to computers for the use of Microsoft Office products, email, educational software and the Internet. The following software is supported: Educational software Email Internet Explorer MS Office 2003 Online Compliance Training Windows XP Students, staff and faculty may also receive MyLink software from the A/V desk in the Moody Medical Library or at the front desk of the Learning Resource Center. Please bring a blank CD. Printing & Copying: Copy cards for the printers or photocopiers may be obtained at the Circulation Desk on the second floor of the Library or at the front desk in the Learning Resource Center. Copies are 5 cents per page. Copy cards are free, and the cash value can be added by clients, in any dollar amount. Color printing is available in the Library, for $1 per page. Online Testing Online Testing is available through the computer-based testing facilities in the Moody Medical Library and at the Learning Resource Center. The Moody Medical Library has 62 computers in the Online Testing Center. The Learning Resource Center has 20 computers in Lab I, 23 computers in Lab II and 16 computers in Lab III. The Learning Resource Center strives to keep one lab available at all times for individual use. Testing software: LXR ParTest Perception WebCT If you require different testing software than listed above, call the Audiovisual/Computer Services department/moody Medical Library or the Learning Resource Center/ SON/SAHS Bldg at least 5 business days prior to the scheduled exam. Proctors or coordinators for monitoring the exams are not provided. Reservations are available by calling the desired location.
