Empowered children. Engaged parents. Energized communities. 2016-2017 Field Trip Guide

A place where kids Play to learn and learn to lead Healthy, well-adjusted, world-is-your-oyster kinds of kiddos. It s your goal. It s our goal. Let s work together to make it happen. Our learning experiences are hands-on, open-ended and self-directed. They align with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction curriculum standards and the Next Generation of Science Standards. They re also irresistibly fun. Discover how The Building for Kids Children s Museum can become a part of your curriculum and classroom. Play is a vital platform for healthy development. It opens the mind like no book can. It invites connection while fostering autonomy. And it lights a fire in every kid s heart to never stop questioning. That fire is why we exist. We offers specially designed exhibits, programs and events that empower children and energize communities. Our interactive exhibits inspire, teach and reinforce curiosity. Add one of our Discovery Classes to your day for hands-on activities in science, technology, geography, math and literacy. We offer everything from machines and matter to the Cat in the Hat. Field trips are for groups of 12 or more, and for children who attend public and private schools, childcare agencies, licensed daycares, or are affiliated with established civic or home-school organizations.

Things to keep in mind for an awesome field trip 1. The earlier the better Try to schedule field trips at least six weeks in advance. The spring is our busiest time for field trips so schedule as far in advance as possible. 2. If you suddenly can t make it Full payment is due 30 days before your field trip. Every effort will be made if a reservation needs to be moved or adjusted. Cancellations will not get the payment refunded. Weather issues will be taken into consideration. Student and chaperone absences will not be refunded. 6. Keeping an eye on the students One adult chaperone, 18 or older, is required for every four children. Required chaperones are free. A $4 charge will be applied to each additional adult above the required chaperones. To ensure a safe visit for your group, there is an $8 charge for each chaperone less than the required number for your group due to additional staffing needs. 7. Keep your cell phones in your pocket We love chaperones that engage with the kids. So cell phones off, imaginations on. The Building for Kids Children s Museum reserves the right to cancel field trips that have not fully completed their reservation in advance. 3. Leaving at the perfect time Though the Museum is full of fun and exciting adventures, we recommend a maximum of three hours of play time for your field trip to keep the students engaged. 4. Keeping the students fed Lunches must be ready to give to students as they enter the lunchroom and cannot be put together on site. Lunch periods last 25 minutes. Lunches need to be finished on time to keep all groups on schedule. 5. Staying on schedule Please be on time for your Discovery Class and lunch. We often have more than one group in the Museum at a time and need to stay on schedule for everyone. 8. No weapons allowed We maintain a strict no weapons policy. 9. No tobacco allowed in the Museum Keep it in your vehicle or off-site. 10. Keeping the Museum clean No gum, food or drink outside the lunch area and the Dino Cafe. 11. Small groups Groups are considered field trips when there are 12 or more students and they attend public and private schools, childcare agencies, licensed daycares, or are affiliated with established civic or home-school organizations.
