1 EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Preschool Playgroup Instructor Assistant Parks & Recreation Division City of Mill Creek, Main Street, Mill Creek, WA SALARY RANGE: $ $14.79 per hour (placement in salary range DOQ) DEADLINE: Candidates are encouraged to apply immediately because applications will be reviewed upon receipt. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under direct supervision, performs routine tasks to assist with instructing a preschool playgroup program involving a variety of education elements for children three to five years of age. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to pass a criminal history background check. Experience and Education/Training: High school diploma or certificate of equivalency (GED), and age appropriate experience working with children, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job. Licenses/Certifications required: Preferred Qualifications: Current child and adult First Aid and CPR certifications and Blood Borne Pathogen training. Two years related experience working with children ages three to five years of age in an organized learning program preferred. WORK SCHEDULE: Work schedule is September to June from 8:15 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Tuesdays & Thursdays and 8:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Fridays. BENEFITS: Seasonal, temporary positions have mandatory employee contribution to alternative to Social Security program
2 (Municipal Employees Benefit Trust). Employees of the City of Mill Creek do not contribute to nor do they earn Social Security credit while employed with the city. Check the Social Security website at for information on how this may affect any Social Security benefits earned at other places of employment. 3 CITY OF MILL CREEK POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Preschool Playgroup Instructor Assistant DEPARTMENT: Executive - Parks & Rec Division REPORTS TO: Recreation Manager SALARY GRADE: A1 FLSA EXEMPT: No REPRESENTATION: Non-represented GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under direct supervision, performs routine tasks to assist with instructing a preschool playgroup program involving a variety of education elements for children three to five years of age. Part-time, seasonal position typically scheduled for part of August through June; may include working during one week in July. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Assist with coordinating and instructing playgroup activities for children ages three to five including but not limited to class time reading, telling stories, art/craft projects, music/movement and other learning activities. 2. Use available resources to provide a safe, fun and positive environment for the children. 3. Gather and prepare approved program materials. 4. Maintain daily records of attendance, including parent/guardian authorization waiver forms. 5. Report incidents, property damage and injuries involving participants or staff to supervisor. 6. Assist with maintaining a clean and safe learning environment; monitor food intake of children with dietary restrictions. 7. Help ensure safe storage and usage of equipment and supplies; set up and clean up as needed for program activities. This is not designed to be a comprehensive listing of all activities, duties and responsibilities required of the job. Other duties may be assigned and/or performed. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily. Encourage enthusiasm for learning and exploring through a variety of activities. Assist with activities appropriate to the developmental level of children age three to five. Work with children with varying skill levels one-on-one and in group settings. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years of age Must be able to pass a criminal history background check.
