Change to the 5th Gear on the Digital Highway with 5thGear 5thGear, Tekes Programme 2014 2019 Mika Klemettinen, Programme Manager 22.10.2015

Tekes is the most important publicly funded expert organisation for financing research, development and innovation in Finland. We boost wide-ranging innovation activities in research communities, industry and service sectors. Tekes funds research and development projects helping companies to grow and renew their business. Companies cover part of their development project costs themselves. More than half of the funding is targeted towards Finnish SME's seeking to grow into global markets. Tekes also funds high-quality scientific research associated with a vision of possible applications in business or society. Tekes funding can be applied by Finnish research organisations. Fortum and Nokia to host a hackathon together before Slush Energy company Fortum and telecommunications giant Nokia will host a hackathon event together on November 6 7th. The companies will invite 40 innovators from startups and tech companies to develop new concepts together with their own staff. The event will be part of Slush Hacks, a series of hackathons organised before the startup and technology conference Slush. In all the events during Slush Hacks, there will be nearly 1000 participants from all around the world. The winner of each event will get to present their ideas on stage at Slush and get a chance to win the main prize of 20.000 euros. Also Ministry of Employment and the Economy, Ministry of Transport and Communications, Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation (Tekes), Finpro and Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) support the event. Together they want to enable rapid experimentation, new forms for innovation and strengthen competitiveness of Finnish companies. The applications for the event are open at www.industryhack.com until midnight on Friday, October 23 rd.. http://www.industryhack.com/

Challenges Schedule 1.Energy Challenge Make everyday life better with new solutions that use data related to energy consumption together with other devices and various sources of data. 2.Network Data Challenge Use the real-time information from devices and metadata from programmable, cloud-based mobile network to build new solutions that improve everyday life and enable seamless collaboration with technology, without compromising user privacy. 3.Open Challenge Use the given resources to create value for a selected user. Thursday 5th Introduction lecture in the evening at Fortum HQ, Espoo. At least one team member should be present. Friday 6th Transport to Mustio castle from Helsinki center, starting at 9:00. Short welcoming words, lunch and hacking begins. Saturday 7th Hacking until the demo session in the afternoon. Transport back to Helsinki at around 19:00. http://www.industryhack.com/
