Abstract Advances in mobile communications technology have made enormous changes in every aspect of life. The MWC 2014, themed on Connected City, illustrated the impact of these changes. Looking into the future, telecom operators around the world will continue to strengthen their presence in home, education, healthcare, and smart city by launching various application services. 4 LTE Applications: What Major Telecom Operators Set to Offer in 2015? 1 1. LTE Broadcasting: Transmission of High-Quality Audiovisual Content LTE Broadcast is based on embms (Evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast System) technology, which is complied with 3GPP Release 9 specifications to be one of the LTE-enabled services. Like traditional TV broadcasting systems, LTE Broadcast can save frequency band and increase processing efficiency by delivering the same content simultaneously to many receivers. This approach is different from the data streaming services, which deliver required content to each receiver on a unicasting basis. The capability of transmitting massive amount of information to multi-points at high speed makes LTE Broadcast technology ideal for sports or real-time news broadcasting. In the future, telecom operators or mobile phone manufacturers can simply put newer versions of OS or firmware on the LTE Broadcast networks to allow automatic download and upgrade on users' devices.
