The Youth Ministry Coordinator is responsible for providing organization and leadership to the Church's Ministries with Youth (from sixth grade through high school age) and their families. The focus of this position is: To help teenagers grow in faith and relationship with Jesus Christ. To build close relationships with their peers and the congregation. To provide opportunities to study scripture and discover God at work in their lives. To help people understand their God-given gifts and talents and their call to minister to others in our community, our nation, and the world. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Plan, implement, and supervise regular gatherings with youth for worship, study, service, and fun, as a community of people caring about each other and responding to God s call for a just and sustainable world. (Regular activities now include Sunday school before worship each week, and fellowship group twice a month on Sunday afternoons). 2. To be actively present with the youth of the church as much as possible at most church-wide events and organize periodic trips, retreats, bible studies and special events with youth and their families. (Regular activities now include a Fall overnight retreat, quarterly planning meetings, mission trips during the summer). 3. Provide for the recruitment, training, support, development, and evaluation of youth ministry team leaders. 4. Provides for the regular communication of youth ministry goals, programs, and activities to youth, their families, and the congregation at large. 5. Be visibly present in a leadership role in the life of the congregation and serve as an advocate for youth ministries, attending regular meetings (as needed), and participating in budget preparation and monitoring. 6. Act as a Christian role model for the young people of Bardstown Road Presbyterian Church and its surrounding community. 7. Provide Christian nurture and pastoral care to youth and their families by initiating and developing personal contact, fostering vital youth involvement in the life of the church, and responding to pastoral needs. 1
QUALIFICATIONS: Energetic person, with a strong Christian faith and good leadership and listening skills. Approximately two years or more of proven experience in working with youth in a Christian setting, and capable of working independently and collaboratively with persons of all ages. Acceptance of a flexible working schedule that includes Sunday mornings and evenings, some regular weekday evenings and weekends, and occasional extended trips. Dependability, patience, and good judgment are essential. A sense of humor and creativity are important. Teaching, Counseling, Music skills are helpful. ACCOUNTABILITY: Shall be accountable to the Pastor as Head of Staff with respect to program goals. RELATIONSHIPS: Relates to youth and their families, all staff, church members, Youth Ministry Team Leaders, and non-members, guests and friends in the community. EVALUTATION: In cooperation with the Pastor, the Personnel Committee will review performance at least annually and will submit a summary report to the Session for their review and action. The Session Personnel Committee will annually review the adequacy of compensation. BENEFITS: Funding available upon approval for professional development classes that enhance job performance.
