1 (CSP) Who We Are: The Christian Scholars program engages students in thoughtful reflection on the call to be Christ in the world as servant scholars. Learn- called to discover God s world and our place in it, we pursue excellence in the classroom and thoughtful reflection beyond it. Love- called to participate in God s work, we strive to change our neighborhoods and our world with sacrificial, active love of God and neighbor. Listen- called to lifelong transformation, once we have learned and loved, we seek to listen again: to God, to our own desires and talents, and to the voices of those that God has put in our lives. CSP Directors: Dr. Jonathan Sands Wise, Philosophy Professor Dr. Sheila Klopfer, Religion Professor What We Do: We help Christian students who desire to learn, love, and listen to attend Georgetown College by providing them with a scholarship of $1000 or $2500. We also provide a program to help them to learn both in and out of the classroom, to love through service, and to listen to God s call. There are three requirements for CSP students to keep their scholarship: 1. CSP Directions: The summer before their freshman year, all students attend CSP Directions for a wonderful four-day adventure making friends and talking about God. 2. CSP Fall Break Retreat: All freshman are required (and upper-classmen are welcome) to attend a fall break retreat at Hilton Head for some quality beach time, shared meals, worship, and reflection on vocation. 3. A Vocations course: All CSP students are required to take a course on vocations sometime during their four year college career. There are other opportunities as well, including spring break trips, service options, international service trips, and local trips, along with pizza lunches and other fun times. Who You Could Be: CSP gives you the chance to serve, reflect on your vocation, travel, develop a community of Christian servant scholars, and engage in activities that will change you forever. As one CSP alumnus wrote: What was so unique and refreshing about [CSP] is it provided an environment that married contemplation and action and that is the way that it is supposed to be. [It] created a space where questions could be asked and worked out through both intellectual conversations and everyday living, [and] provided me with the ability to perceive how my life is tangled up with the things that God is doing in the world.

2 Since its inception in 1980, the Christian Scholars program (CSP), formerly known as Christian Leaders Scholarship and Program (CLS), has become a prestigious and selective recognition for entering freshmen. CSP scholarships are awarded to students who exemplify Christian characteristics through their actions in volunteering and serving in the church and/or through Christian organizations of the community while continuing strong academic preparation in school. A scholarship committee comprised of the CSP Directors and college personnel will select recipients for the CSP scholarship. Students will be selected on the basis of their application, commitment to Christian service, their essay, and on the recommendation provided by their Christian mentor. Students may receive awards of either $1,000 or $2,500 per year (renewable up to four years). How to apply for this scholarship Complete the Application Forms (all information is confidential) 1. Christian Mentor s Nomination Form (To be completed by the applicant s mentor) There are two ways to submit the Application and Christian Mentor s Nomination forms (Please choose only one): 1. They can be downloaded, printed, completed, and mailed to Admissions (address below). 2. They can be completed and submitted online at the Georgetown College website.
