Instructions for installation of software and download of images to the PC using GRDVM90U. (For best result please view this document with PAGE LAYOUT selected in VIEW option of Microsoft Word) With the camcorder two manuals are supplied printed on paper: Camcorder instruction manual and Before Operation manual. The instructions for JVC software supplied with the unit can be found (after installation of Adobe Acrobat) on the CD-ROM itself. To view those instructions do the following: 1 Insert the CD-ROM into you CD ROM drive. 2 Click on MY COMPUTER icon. 3 Right click on CD-ROM icon. 4 Click on EXPLORE. 5 Double click on JVC folder. 6 Double click on DOCS folder. 7 You will see a list of manuals, the following are in English: CNEN-------Card Navigator, Video Player PC_EN------Picture Navigator VCP_EN----JLIP Video Capture and JLIP Video Producer To view those manuals the above steps must be performed whenever you want to read any of those manuals. Of course those could be printed if printer is connected to your computer. Installation of supplied software: After CD is inserted into CD-ROM the SETUP screen will appear on the monitor (if it won t do the following: click on MY COMPUTER icon on you desktop then double click on the CD-ROM icon). Each program will be installed separately after the previous is done. There will be a brief moment of inactivity (how long depending on the design of your computer) between each installation will take place. PAGE 1

The following programs are set to be installed: JVC Multimedia Navigator includes: Picture Navigator to download still images from the Multimedia card, JLIP Video Capture to download still images from the recorded digital tape, JLIP Video Producer to edit/copy the digital tape onto VHS VCR-- This software doesn t transfer still images or video/audio to the computer. JVC Card Navigator (this program displays the contents of MultiMedia Card and allows transfer of still images or video clips (20 seconds of video with 160x120 resolution and sound) JVC Video Player (this is the only program that will play back video clips transferred from the camcorder using JVC Card Navigator, if those clips are to be emailed this software must be emailed to the recipient as well) Adobe Acrobat Reader CD-ROM) (required for viewing or printing of instruction manuals included on the NewSoft Presto! Mr Photo GOLD (this consists of three programs allowing to view/edit/print or email images transferred from the camcorder) Please wait until last checked program will be installed before using the software. Download of images from the tape to the computer: 1. Make sure the computer is turned off. 3. Connect the docking stations jack called PC (DIGITAL STILL) to the COM Port (RS- 232C) on the PC using supplied cable. 7. Make sure no other software is running in the background at this time. Icons displayed in the lower right corner of the computer screen (next to the clock) indicate other running programs. 8. Click START-PROGRAMS-MULTIMEDIA NAVIGATOR 2.0 9. Click on JLIP VIDEO CAPTURE icon 10. In JLIP VIDEO CAPTURE screen click third icon from the left (DV CONTROLLER). 11. Select SERIAL PORT that is available on your computer (i.e. COM1, COM2, COM3 or COM4). 12. Click SCAN. 13. After scan is completed a highlighted VCRCAMERA device should appear. 14. Click OK. 15. Using DV CONTROLLER screen operate camcorder until image you want to transfer appears (PLAY, FFWD, REW, PAUSE or SLOW MOTION buttons are available). PAGE 2

You have to locate desired image by looking on the camcorder screen only, computer monitor only shows control buttons and not a live image playback. 16. Click CAPTURE icon (looks like camera). This can be performed while playing the tape as well as while tape is paused. 17. Transfer takes place and PC MODE will be blinking on the camcorder screen. The image is at that point stored in computers memory only and not on the hard drive yet!!!!! Select SAVE AS by right clicking on single or multiple images (if you want to use NEWSOFT software later on to process/edit/print/ choose this option) or select SAVE ALBUM (if images are to be saved together but this album will be viewable only while using JLIP Video Capture software). To view images saved from the tape you would have to remember what folder image was saved to (images saved in the JLIP albums will have file extensions.vna and can t be viewed using NEWSOFT software unless they were saved in separate location as single images not an album). Downloading still images from the MultiMedia card to your PC: Using Picture Navigator software: 1. Make sure the Computer is turned off. 3. Connect the docking stations jack called PC (DIGITAL STILL) to the COM Port (RS-232C) on the PC using supplied cable. 7. Make sure no other software is running in the background at this time Icons displayed in the lower right corner of the computer screen (next to the clock) indicate other running programs. 8. Click START-PROGRAMS-MULTIMEDIA NAVIGATOR-MULTIMEDIA NAVIGATOR 2.0 9. Click on PICTURE NAVIGATOR icon 10. Click on FILE-PREFERENCES-CONNECT and select COM Port number, cable or infrared connection and transfer speed (baud rate) 11. Clicking on SAVE ALL (fifth icon from the left on the PICTURE NAVIGATOR BOOKSHELF) will download all still images into computer. You can also choose which images are to be saved rather then saving them all: Instead of step 11 above click on third icon from the left CAMERA (this will be the preview only of all images in the camcorder as thumbnails approx. 60x80 resolution and not transfer of full images). After clicking and highlighting single or multiple (hold CTRL and then click on next picture to select more then one at the time) images in CAMERA VIEW screen, click on the third icon from the left SAVE. When album selection screen will appear choose the album number (if there are no albums to choose from click CANCEL, minimize CAMERA VIEW screen and in the BOOKSHELF click FILE OPEN A NEW ALBUM. Then go back to CAMERA VIEW screen and click the SAVE icon) you want your images to go to and click OK. Images will be saved in consecutive ALBUM folder with number in MULTIMEDIA NAVIGATOR/PICTURE NAVIGATOR folder in your hard drive. PAGE 3

Using CARD NAVIGATOR software: 1. Make sure the Computer is turned off. 3. Connect the docking stations jack called PC (DIGITAL STILL) to the COM Port (RS-232C) on the PC using supplied cable. 7. Make sure no other software is running in the background at this time. Click START-PROGRAMS-CARD NAVIGATOR-DCIM-100JVCGR. Images are now visible on the right side. Select as many images as you want then click on EXECUTE COPY icon. Select the location where you want your images to be saved and remember it for future processing of pictures. Transfer of information from the MultiMedia Card without using supplied cable/software: To transfer information from the card other devices could be used as well. Currently floppy adapter or IMAGEMATE (USB or parallel versions) adapters are available for that purpose. While using either one no additional software (other then drivers for those devices of course) is necessary and transfer of information from the tape can be done for example with simple copy command in Windows Explorer, same as copying from one folder in the computer to the other. Computer treats those devices as an integral part of the system and will allow simple copying in or from those adapters. PAGE 4

IMAGMATE adapter IMPORTANT NOTE: if you would copy any images or files from the computer into the card, than later camcorder may have problems saving the still images to the card or may incorrectly display the information on this MultiMedia Card. Download of video clips to the computer: 1. Make sure the Computer is turned off. 3. Connect the docking stations jack called PC (DIGITAL STILL) to the COM Port (RS-232C) on the PC using supplied cable. 7. Make sure no other software is running in the background at this time. Click START-PROGRAMS-CARD NAVIGATOR-DCVI-100JVCGR. 8. Highlight the video clip you want to transfer. 9. Click on EXECUTE COPY and select where you want the clip to be saved. Sending video clip via email: For recipient to be able to play the clip on his/her computer JVC Video Player software must be installed. So only for the first time video clip will be emailed to somebody also Video player must be sent as well. There is a zipped version (that means WINZIP software available on the Internet must be used at recipient s computer to unzip it) of this software included on the supplied CD- ROM. It is called Jvc_vp.exe and can be found in FORWIN folder on the CD- ROM. Using firewire (IEEE1394) to transfer images: Firewire is capable of transferring either stills or video clips with sound from the digital tape only!!! It will not transfer any information from the MultiMedia Card directly. PAGE 5

Transfer from the tape is fully automatic (camera must be in PLAY/PC mode) and all functions are controlled by computer software itself (not JVC software). Before using NEWSOFT software please view it s instruction manual (there is a separate manual for each of these three programs). To view a manual installation of ADOBE ACROBAT is necessary. After installation is completed click on START-PROGRAMS-MR.PHOTO GOLD 1.6 and select manual you want to read/print. Presto software is intended to process existing images in your computer (print, email or edit). It is not possible to download images from the JVC camera directly using this software. To view image transferred from the camera and saved in the computer using MR.PHOTO program: 1. Click START then PROGRAMS then MR.PHOTO GOLD 1.6 then PRESTO! MR.PHOTO 1.6 2. After Mr.Photo opens up move cursor to top left corner until taskbar with INPUT button appears 3. Click INPUT than ADD PHOTOS/VIDEOS. 4. Click on plus sign by C then on plus by PROGRAM FILES folder, then plus by MULTIMEDIA NAVIGATOR. 5. To view image saved with Picture Navigator click on PICTURE NAVIGATOR folder then ALBUM number images are saved in, select one image (preview mode is available) then click > sign then OK. To view images saved from the tape with JLIP Video Capture you would have to remember what folder image was saved to (images saved as an JLIP albums with file extensions.vna can t be viewed here unless they were saved in separate location as single image with extension.jpg or.bmp and not an album). Also emailing or printing of images is possible with MR PHOTO software. PAGE 6

To do so simply highlight the image and then move cursor to the top of the screen until New taskbar appear along the top of the screen and select OUTPUT then PRINT to print image or INTERNET and SEND VIA EMAIL to email the picture. PAGE 7
