Dear Laurel Community Leader: LAUREL LITTLE LEAGUE 16919 Melbourne Drive, Laurel, MD 20707 http://www.laurellittleleague.com The crack of the bat the sounds of children playing America s pastime the smell of freshly cut outfield grass a stern umpire declaring Batter s OUUUTT! Every spring and summer across Laurel, these sights and sounds are commonplace as the Laurel Little League goes about its business of helping our youth play baseball and softball. Perhaps more importantly than learning and playing baseball and softball, the Laurel Little League is committed to teaching and developing future leaders, good citizens, and outstanding young-adults. Laurel Little League, a fully qualified charitable organization, has been a fixture in Laurel and the surrounding area since 1995. We have provided baseball and softball leagues, as well as tournament and instructional opportunities for literally thousands of boys and girls through the years. As you may know, operating such a program takes a lot of volunteers, time, and money. For instance, last year alone we had over 60 volunteer managers and assistant coaches working with 30+ teams of children ranging in age from 4-18 years old. We rely on sponsorship money in order to keep the registration fees affordable for all. Sponsorship donations make up the difference needed to provide uniforms, replace worn out equipment, maintain the fields, and other direct expenses of running our league. Laurel Little League has hundreds of kids that go through its program annually and we are growing each year! We also participate in and host district tournaments that will allow your advertising dollars to reach many people. Being a Laurel Little League Sponsor is a great way to display your leadership position within the local community while gaining advertising exposure. We at Laurel Little League sincerely hope that you will step up to the plate by joining the Laurel Little League Team and contributing to youth activities within our community for the 2013 season. We are offering multiple sponsorship levels for this upcoming season (please see attached Sponsorship Form) that allow you the chance to choose the level of support that you are most comfortable with. Of course, you will receive a thank you letter acknowledging your commitment to the youth of Laurel suitable for tax purposes. Laurel Little League is recognized as a 501(c)3 charitable organization and your donation is tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by U.S. tax laws and regulations*. Your completed Sponsorship Agreement and your tax-deductible donation may be sent to the address listed above. With your help 2013 will be our most successful season ever! Why Laurel Little League Laurel Little League is committed to focus on its players -- our children. Our goal is to teach our children life skills that they will use long after they leave our program. We believe that it is not how many wins the team has, it is how well each individual player contributes to the team, doing their best. If we do a good job of teaching the players the skills, the wins will happen, and they will also learn how to lose gracefully and in a sportsmanlike manner. In the words of Stephen D. Keener, President and Chief Executive Officer of Little League Baseball and Softball Little League is about playing, having fun, and learning some of life s lessons along the way. Too many times in recent years stories have been told about children playing and sacrificing for baseball where the only thing that seems to matter is the outcome. That is most definitely not what Little League is about. Little League is here for everyone and we know our player s future is not only about playing ball. It s about helping them to become successful adults. As final example of what Little League is about I give you the following story about Max. As a writing assignment, 8 year old Max Priestley was asked to pick a day that he could re-live. A day that was the best day in his life. Max wrote about a day he had playing winter baseball. The letter below reminds all of us why Little League is really important. It's not so our kids can become professional baseball players, it's not so they can win every game, and it's definitely NOT for the parents. It's so we can help create days like this and provide stories that our kids can tell theirs about the best days in their lives.
