Downloading magazines with Zinio for Kindle Fire You ll Need: your library card and your Kindle Fire Some Zinio Basics Unlimited downloads are available. No checkout period is placed on the magazines; you will have them as long as you want. Monthly issues will not be automatically downloaded to your Kindle Fire. PLEASE NOTE: There are differences in the layout of the Zinio app between the original Kindle Fire and the Kindle Fire HD. Separate images and/or directions appear at points in this handout when needed. Getting Started with Zinio 1. You can start by going directly to the Zinio site for the Peabody Institute Library at http://www.rbdigital.com/peabodyma/zinio or by accessing our website at http://peabodylibrary.org and taping on Digital Magazines under the elibrary dropdown.
2. You will see the library's Zinio homepage. Tap on Create New Account in the upper-right corner. 3. Enter your library card number (without the spaces) and tap on Next.
4. You will be asked to create an account with Zinio. This is the first account you will create; it is for your account with the library, so you can check out magazines. You will be asked to create a second account directly with Zinio for their website, so you can read the magazines. Use the same email address and password for both accounts. Once you are finished, tap on Create Account. Choosing Your First Magazine 1. After creating your account you can choose a magazine. To choose a magazine tap on its cover image and then tap on Complete Checkout.
2. You will be asked to create an account with Zinio. This is the second account you will create; it is for your account directly with Zinio, so you can read the magazines you have checked out from the library. Use the same email address and password that you used for your first account. Once you are finished, tap on Register. 3. You will see that the magazine issue has been added to Your Reading List in your Zinio account.
Setting Up the Zinio App 1. If you have a Kindle Fire HD, from the main screen of your Kindle Fire, enter into your Kindle s settings by tapping at the top of the screen and 'swiping' down or pulling down, as if you were pulling a curtain down. If you have an original Kindle Fire, tap on the cog wheel in the upper-right corner. The Quick Settings will appear. 2. Tap on More. 3. Tap on Device. You may have to scroll down in the list to see the option for Device. 4. Turn ON Allow Installation of Applications (from unknown devices). 5. Return to the home screen and open up your web browser on the Kindle Fire. Go to http://bit.ly/firezinio. The app will begin downloading. 6. If you have a Kindle Fire HD, put your finger on the top left corner of the screen and 'swipe' down or pull down, as if you were pulling a curtain down. If you have an original Kindle Fire, tap in the upper-left corner of your screen where you will see a number next to Kindle Fire. This will show the file s download progress; the file will be named ZinioReader. 7. Once the download is complete, tap the file that you downloaded and select "Install." 8. Press "Open" when the installation is complete. 9. If you have a Kindle Fire HD, in the upper-right corner you will see a set of three vertical dots. Tap on the icon and Settings will display. If you have an original Kindle Fire, in the middle at the bottom of the screen you will see three lines, one on top of the other. Tap on the icon and Settings will display. Tap on Settings. 10. If you have a Kindle Fire HD, the settings for Zinio will appear; tap on Sign In. If you have an original Kindle Fire, the sign in fields will already be visible. 11. Enter the username and password you used to create the accounts you have already made for Zinio and tap OK.
12. If it does not already do so for you, you can tap on the icon of the open book in the upper-right corner to display the titles you have checked out from the library. 13. The magazine you selected will be ready to download. If the download does not start automatically, you can tap on the magazine title (it will have a downward-facing arrow on it) to begin the download. 14. Tapping on the magazine cover once it is downloaded will open the issue and you can begin to read it.
Downloading More Magazines from the Library 1. Go to the library's Zinio homepage (http://www.rbdigital.com/peabodyma/zinio) and tap on Log in in the upper-right corner. Enter your email address and the password you just created and tap on Log In. 2. You will see a list of the magazines we offer. Choose a magazine s current issue by taping on its cover.
3. Tap on Complete Checkout. 4. Tap on Sign in Here and log in with your Zinio account information. 5. You will see that the magazine issue has been added to Your Reading List in your Zinio account.
6. Open your Zinio app. The magazine you selected will be ready to download. If the download does not start automatically, you can tap on the magazine title (it will have a downward-facing arrow on it) to begin the download.
Reading Magazines on the Zinio App To read magazines in Zinio, tap on the magazine cover and it will open the issue. If you cannot see the magazine covers, you might be in a different view of Zinio interface--try tapping on the "Read" icon at the bottom of the page. Swiping from right to left will advance the pages of the magazine. To increase the size of the text for easier reading, you can tap on the "text" option. This option only appears at the beginning of the article--you won't find it as you're a page or two into the article.
Deleting Magazines on the Zinio App To delete an issue go to the "Read" interface in Zinio, by tapping on the open book icon at the top of the screen, so you can see all of the magazines you currently have available. Tap on "Edit" near the upper-right corner. "X" marks will appear on all of the issues that you have downloaded.
Tap on the magazine you would like to delete. You will see a message popup, tap on "Continue. The magazine will now be deleted. Tap on Done in order to finish deleting magazines and return to reading them.
