Citaro highlights With around 35,000 vehicles on the road throughout Europe and leading cities all over the world, the Citaro has become one of the most popular regular-service buses in local public transport. And for a good reason, too: for over a decade the Citaro has set standards in terms of design, comfort, safety and economy over and over again. Simply unmistakable. Once again. With its distinctive appearance the Citaro has always been a trendsetter in the public transport sector. Now its look has been made even more modern. From its friendly face, to its low-slung curved window line, to the colour display. The new Citaro has enhanced its strong points even further in terms of comfort, too. Because apart from its low-floor design, comfortable access and exit, generously-dimensioned interior and ergonomic-design passenger seats, now it features a completely redesigned driver workstation. For even more safety and excellent comfort. The new Citaro has all it takes to be the flagship of your company. A new economic miracle. With the new Citaro, too, you benefit from an overall economy without paragon. It is based on the one hand on high-quality components from large-series production and the strict quality philosophy of Mercedes-Benz. And on the other hand on the fact that we have once again succeeded in significantly further improving maintenance-friendliness and reducing downtime by applying a host of individual further developments. In sum this means: lasting low lifecycle costs. These have become just as much part of the standard equipment of the Citaro as the particularly frugal Euro V/EEV drive system with Mercedes-Benz BlueTec diesel technology.

Charming at first sight The bus is the face of your fleet. A good thing, when it looks as friendly and inviting as the new Citaro while radiating so much poise and assurance at the same time. When good looks and a good name go together. Mercedes-Benz buses and coaches define the look of many cities all over the world. With the Citaro their look will become a bit more distinctive yet. We have accentuated its powerful design language even more strongly through many details such as for instance the striking front panel, the contoured wheel covers and the embossed Citaro inscription at the rear. Eye-catching, too, are its side windows with their dynamically curved lower edge. And the new destination display provides an extra note of colour: you can choose between the colours green, blue and red. Boredom stops here. Clear lines and loving care of details characterise the interior of the new Citaro, too. Boarding the new Citaro produces a feeling of well-being. This is thanks to the brighter illumination of the entry area and the pleasant design of the passenger compartment. Additional equipment and appointment variants give you even more freedom of spatial arrangement: whether it is single seats, double seats or a circular seating arrangement you are the one who decides how to divide the interior. Here I am human, here I can be myself It is always a reassuring feeling to be aboard a Mercedes-Benz, comfortably seated - or sometimes standing. Because we do not only attach great importance to an attractive exterior: the inner values have to be right, too. A passenger dream. Low steps and a low floor throughout the whole length of the bus ensure ease of entry and exit as well as an unimpeded passenger flow. The generouslydimensioned interior creates an airy sense of spaciousness, enhanced by the large panoramic windows with their dynamic, curved waistline. The bus offers extremely comfortable standing headroom in every sector even for tall passengers, while wheelchair users and people with restricted mobility can board the bus without difficulty. And of course the equipment to adapt the new Citaro to the needs of the disabled according to EU guidelines is available. Keeping cool in the new Citaro. Climatisation shows itself from its most pleasant side in the new Citaro at all times and every season of the year. Thermostaticallyregulated sidewall-mounted heaters assist the automatic ventilation and aeration of the passenger compartment. And with the powerful air conditioning with integrated roof heating you can enhance passenger comfort even further. Making things comfortable for your passengers. The seats of the new Citaro are exceptionally robust and resistant and extremely comfortable at the same time thanks to their ergonomically-shaped upholstery. It is simply good to be seated here. But if you need to stand, you are sure to find the perfect hold with our new, flexible grab-rail system from right up front all the way through to the back of the bus. 11

Ride comfort for the city Travelling in the new Citaro is something quite special. Its excellent suspension ensures the greatest ride comfort all along the line. More than a suspension system, almost a work of art. The Citaro s independent front suspension has set new standards in regular-service transport. Excellent straightline stability and exceptional steerability in conjunction with a comfortable spring system guarantee smooth, refined driving characteristics similar to those of a longdistance coach. No corner too tight. The new Citaro is again one of the most manoeuvrable vehicles of its class. The 12-m single vehicle has a turning circle of just 21.21 m in spite of its extended wheelbase and longer overhang. For you this means: maximum manoeuvrability and handling safety, even in very critical situations. Keeping a firm grip on things. When it comes to road holding, the new Citaro sets the highest standards. Independently of the number of passengers and road conditions, the suspension set-up of this comfortable regularservice bus is always perfect. The optionally available pitch/roll control system, with electronically-regulated dampers, takes care of that by stabilising the vehicle automatically, improving its road holding characteristics. 14

Ride on the safe side, ride Mercedes-Benz The bus is one of the world s safest modes of transport, thanks in no small part to Mercedes-Benz innovations. Since the invention of the motorised bus by Carl Benz, Mercedes-Benz has been continuously pioneering the further development of bus and coach safety. Many of the innovations that are standard today made their debut in a vehicle bearing the Mercedes star. Mercedes-Benz pursues the vision of accident-free driving, with the Mercedes-Benz integral safety concept contributing substantially to realising this aim. By consistently implementing the safety philosophy, this concept covers all stages of vehicle safety: from handling safety to safety in hazardous situations, from protection in the event of an accident to minimising the consequences of an accident. After all, you can never be too safe. A firm and secure foundation. Your passengers will enjoy outstanding, all-round accident protection in the Citaro. Because the bodyshell of durable, electrically welded square tubes is highly damage-resistant. In the new Citaro, the improved bodyshell with its continuous annular frame members and diagonal bracing produces a high level of bodyshell rigidity according to ECE-R standard 66/01. The front section is reinforced according to ECE-R 29 standard for particularly effective impact protection. The ESP system and the optionally available bi-xenon headlamps set new standards in terms of safety. A safety which until now was only enjoyed by touring coaches. 17

Always a reassuring feeling a safe workplace The best protection for passengers is still a driver fully concentrated on his/her job. That s why the driver s workplace has to be protected against distractions and the controls have to be intuitive and within easy reach. Here, too, the new Citaro sets the standards. Everything right where it should be. Nothing ought to distract the Citaro chauffeur from his work. That is precisely what we have worked on. In order to provide better all-round visibility, we have raised the driver s seating position slightly the driver can now see eye to eye with the passengers. Legroom has been increased by extending the front section increasing collision protection at the same time. This enables an optimum seating position for long workdays. New driver windows provide better ventilation and easier access to the exterior mirror. Here you can simply trust your intuition. Reading the instruments and operating the controls has become easier in the new Citaro, because we have optimised and emphasised both in their shape and arrangement. Another innovation for the Citaro is the multifunction steering wheel. The menu navigation of the display is now simply via function buttons directly on the steering wheel. Whether traffic jam warnings or operating information everything is shown clearly and neatly on the display. It s good to be seated here, but more importantly, there is plenty of space. Additional DIN inserts enable flexible extension possibilities for the new Citaro. While we were about it, we also ensured improved accessibility. For the driver s personal items there are additional stowage trays in the bag compartment and on the waist rail. You see: in the new Citaro everything and everyone is in good hands, the driver, too, of course. The new driver protection door protects the driver against unexpected attacks. Depending on the intended use and desired degree of protection, four levels are available. There s nothing missing here. The new Citaro naturally features all the electronics needed to provide the driver optimum support for driving in urban traffic. This starts with the tyre pressure monitoring system, continues with the rain and light sensors and is far from ending with the ESP electronic stability programme. But you never expected anything else from a Mercedes-Benz, did you? 18

What matters is the bottom line Transport companies, in particular, have to calculate especially carefully, taking the entire bus lifecycle into account. And this is where the Citaro has always been the benchmark a mark which we have raised even higher with the new Citaro. A bus only earns money when it is on the road. In order to minimise expensive downtime, we have made the new Citaro even more maintenance-friendly and less maintenance-prone. In order to prevent soiling and damage, all electric cables have been moved from the understructure to the intermediate deck. Filters of larger volume and more convenient access to the driver s air intake enable longer cleaning intervals. This also holds true of the advanced LED lighting, which is also used in the vehicle interior; its most important components are of easy access without the need of tools. And should the bus ever suffer minor damage, the optimised design of exterior components guarantees that these can be rapidly repaired. All in all, this makes maintenance intervals longer and repair downtime shorter. So that you can speedily be on the road again. Great performance, low consumption. The thrifty, robust Euro V/EEV engines featuring Mercedes-Benz BlueTec diesel technology spell clear benefits for your local public transport company. Their low consumption pays dividends day by day in times of high fuel prices. And the environment benefits, too, from their low pollutant and particulate emissions. With engines ranging in output from 210 kw (286 hp) to 260 kw (354 hp) you can be on the road not just economically, but as fast as necessary, too. A true ecosystem. How economically a regular-service public transport bus moves through urban traffic depends not only on the engine s fuel economy. Other components have a significant impact on the vehicle s overall fuel consumption as well, for instance the air conditioning system, the lighting and the electric doors. Here, too, the new Citaro has something to offer: next to the energysaving LED lighting, it has a new Climate light system, lightweight, low-maintenance hinged sliding doors and an optimised battery management system all perfectly attuned with each other thanks to an intelligent electronics system. To cap it all, the new Citaro not only reduces your expenses, it also generates new income: additional publicity spaces on the outer ceiling flaps and the driver compartment partition wall, as well as on optional advertising signs at the bus stops offer an additional source of income. 25
