XI TERRAS DE LA-SALETTE WIND INSTRUMENTS INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION REGULATIONS 2016 Art.1 Instruments This is an International competition, open to the following instruments: Woodwind Transverse Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon and Saxophone; Brass Trumpet, Horn, Tenor Trombone, Bass Trombone, Tuba/Euphonium Note: In the Bass Trombone instrument only the Junior and Senior categories will be held. Art. 2 Location The Competition will be held in Oliveira de Azeméis, at the Caracas Theatre facilities or other to be indicated, on 20, 21, 22 and 23 March 2016. Art. 3 Entries Registration in the competition commits the participant to accept the regulations determined. Application is carried out by filling in the Application Form available on the website of the organisation: sopros.cm-oaz.pt. Last date for submission of entries is 26th February 2016. The request for pianist accompanist provided by the organization, if needed, must be marked in the Application Form No reimbursement will be paid to the participants that for any reason withdraw from the competition, after its validation by the organization. Note: The registration will only be validated if and when the application form is correctly filled in and all the other requested documents attached. Art. 4 Documents All participants must be accompanied by a valid personal identification document. Participants shall provide the Jury with three (3) copies of the musical scores. The participants must have original musical scores. Art. 5 Categories The competition is divided in four categories: Child Category: Aged up to 12 (inclusive) Juvenile Category: Aged 13 to 15 (inclusive)

Junior Category: N o te: Aged 16 to 18 (inclusive) Senior category: Aged 19 to 26 (inclusive) 1-Participants should complete birthday on December 31, 2016 to be eligible to participate in a respective category. 2-The winner of the first place in a category in previous editions of the competition, can only compete to the up-level category. Art. 6 Rounds Child and Juvenile Category: In these categories two (2) rounds will be held. In the first, the candidate will perform a compulsory piece of music and in the second the candidate will perform a freely selected piece of music/one or more tempos. Notes: 1) The name of the compulsory piece of music is published on the websites www.cm-oaz.pt and sopros.cm-oaz.pt. 2) The freely selected score, including the piano piece, should be enclosed to the Application Form, in case an accompanist pianist has been requested. 3) Each round follows an eliminatory criterion, that is, if the participant does not fulfil the aims of each round, will be eliminated, regardless the performance in the other preliminary rounds. 4) The freely selected piece of music is limited to duration of 4 minutes to the Children s Category and 7 minutes to the Juvenile Category. Junior and Senior categories In these categories the competition is divided in three (3) rounds: Pre-eliminatory round: The candidates must play a compulsory piece of music. Eliminatory round: The candidates must play a compulsory freely selected piece of music solo. Final round: The finalists must play a piece of music chosen from a list provided by the Jury.

Notes: 1) The list of the mandatory pieces of music as well as the ones chosen to the final round, are published on the websites: www.cm-oaz.pt and sopros.cm-oaz.pt. 2) Each round follows an eliminatory criterion, that is if the candidate does not fulfil the aims of each round, will be eliminated, regardless the performance in the other preliminary rounds. 3) The freely selected piece of music lasts up to a maximum of 8 minutes in the Junior Category and 10 minutes in the Senior Category. Art. 7 Order of performance The order of performance to the rounds will be displayed at the entrance of each venue. Art. 8 Schedule The schedule of the programme, with the day and time of the performances, will be published on the websites www.cm-oaz.pt and sopros.cm-oaz.pt up to 14 th March 2016. Art. 9 Pianist accompanist The candidates, who wish to be accompanied by a pianist provided by the organization, must mark their request in the Application Form. Rehearsals with the pianist accompanists provided by the organization will take place on 18 th, and 19 th March 2016, at Cine-Teatro Caracas and other venues to be indicated. Art. 10 Registration Fees 1) Registration without Pianist Accompanist provided by the organization: 40,00 2) Registration with Pianist accompanist provided by the organization: a) 60,00 to the Child and Juvenile Categories b) 75,00 to the Junior and Senior Categories 3) Cheques must be made payable to FAMOA Federação das Associações do Município de Oliveira de Azeméis; 4) Bank Transfer payments to Portuguese NIB 0010 0000 41894540003 31. Art. 11 Jury The Jury will be made up of: Woodwind instruments: Ana Maria Ribeiro (Flute) Soloist at the Oporto National Orchestra, and teacher at the Aveiro Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory of Music.

Ricardo Lopes Teacher at the Superior School of Music e Arts in Oporto and soloist at the Lisbon Symphony Orchestra. José Pedro Figueiredo (Bassoon) Teacher at the Coimbra Music Conservatory, Conductor of the Brass Band of Loureiro, and conductor of the Wind Band of the Music Academy of Ourém. Fernando Ramos (Saxophone) Teacher at the Music and Performing Arts Superior School of Oporto, at the University of Aveiro and at the Professional School of Music of Espinho. Teo Aparício Barberan Composer and conductor. Carlos Alves (Clarinet) Soloist at the Oporto Symphony Orchestra - Casa da Música, and teacher at ESART. Brass Instruments: Fernando Ribeiro (Trumpet) Teacher at the Braga Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory of Music. Helder Fernandes (Trumpet) Teacher at the Costa Cabral Academy of Music, teacher at the Academy of Music of Vale de Cambra and teacher at the Academy of Music of Vila Verde. Nuno Scarpa (Trombone) Teacher at the Profissional School of Arts of Mirandela. Alexandre Vilela (Bass Trombone) Teaches at the Espinho Professional School of Music and at the Superior School of Music of Castelo Branco( ESART). J. Bernardo Silva (Horn) National Orchestra of Oporto and teacher at the University of Aveiro and Professional School of Espinho. Nuno Machado (Tuba/ Euphonium) Teacher at the Professional School of Arts of Mirandela Carlos Marques (Composer) Teacher at the Piaget Institute of Viseu, at the Piaget Institute of Gaia, at the Piaget Institute of Mirandela and at the Jobra Music Conservatory. Notes: 1) The jury may be divided in the rounds and seating together for the final; 2) The Woodwind instruments Jury will be presided by Ana Maria Ribeiro (teacher), and the Brass instruments Jury by Fernando Ribeiro (teacher); 3) The President of the Jury is vested with the right of exercising the veto power; 4) The Jury reserves the right to interrupt the performance at any moment; 5) The Jury s decisions are unquestionable and final; 6) The organization may appoint new members of the Jury, if necessary.

Art. 12 Results The results will be made available after the end of the rounds of each category. Art. 13 Responsibility The organization does not take responsibility for any material damage taking place during the competition. Art. 14 Prizes The awarded prizes are: 1 - Child Category -1 st Prize: 150,00-2 nd Prize: 80,00-3 rd Prize: 50,00 Juvenile Category -1 st Prize: 300,00-2 nd Prize: 150,00-3 rd Prize: 75,00 Junior Category -1 st Prize: 550,00-2 nd Prize: 300,00-3 rd Prize: 200,00 Senior Category -1 st Prize: 800,00-2 nd Prize: 500,00-3 rd Prize: 300,00 2 Prize D. Maria Aldina Fernandes Valente The Prize D. Maria Aldina Fernandes Valente, worth 1,500, will be awarded to the oldest person to whom a first prize has been awarded.

3 Solo participation in a concert with the Filarmonia das Beiras. From the group of first-prized in the Senior category, one from the Wood Instruments and one from the Brass Instruments will be selected to play solo in a concert with the Orchestra Filarmonia das Beiras. This concert will take place in May 2016, while celebrating Oliveira de Azeméis Day. 4 Certificate of attendance and Diploma The participants will receive a Certificate of Attendance and the awarded ones will receive a Diploma. 5 Notes: a) The value of the Prize will be split up in case of ex-aequo score, except for the Child Category. b) The Jury reserves the right not to award any prize, if the jury determines that in a Category and/or instrument the quality requirements are not fulfilled. Art. 15 Prize Award Ceremony The Prizes will be given out at the Award Winners Concert, to be held on 24 th March at 16:00, at Cine- Teatro Caracas. The participants in this concert will be chosen and invited by the Jury. Art. 16 Image Rights The organization reserves the right to film and/or photograph the performances, with the aim of publishing and promoting new editions of the competition. All image rights belong to the Municipality of Oliveira de Azeméis, free of charge and for an unlimited period of time. Registration to competition entails full acceptance of these rules and regulations. Art. 17- Doubts and omissions Any doubts or omissions in the herewith regulations will be decided by the jury of the competition and/or by the Municipal Councillor who was invested with powers in the area of Culture.
