1 Associazione Spazi Musicali 1st Composition for Youth Orchestra Competition 2014 "Cav. Angelo Rizzardi" Article 1 Associazione Spazi Musicali, in collaboration with the municipality of Mazzano, announces that in 2014 the first edition of the Composition Contest, reserved to original compositions for the youth orchestra, will take place. The composition must last between a minimum of seven minutes to a maximum of ten. In the announcement is attached a technical table showing the instrumental ensemble that the composer must use for the composition. Article 2 The contest is open to composers from every country. The contestants must be born not before the 1st of January If the candidate is under legal age they must be represented by a parent or an exerciser of parental rights, according to the disposition of the article 3. No specific qualifications are required in order to participate in the Competition. Composition Group (Collective Works) are also allowed to participate, provided that all the members own all the requirements provided by this announcement. In this case the composition group must choose his own group leader, whom will be the representative concerning all the communications pertinent to the contest. Article 3 The application must be sent by registered mail at the following address: Associazione Spazi Musicali, c/o Comune di Mazzano 1 Concorso di Composizione 2014 Viale della Resistenza Mazzano (BS) ITALY Application must be postmarked no later than March, 10th 2014, otherwise the application will not be accepted.

2 The application must be sent anonymously in a closed envelope signed by a motto. The envelope may show only the shipping address and the motto, without further writings, and it must contain a digital support (CD or DVD) with the following files: 1. A.mp3 audio recording (filename: motto selection.mp3) and the relative score of a composition written by the candidate (or by the group leader, in the case of a composition group), printed or made in a notational software and converted in a.pdf file (motto selection.pdf). Handwritten scores will not be accepted. 2. An excerpt of the submitted composition made in a notational software and converted in a.pdf file, lasting a minimum of 3 minutes. The score must be anonymous and signed by the motto, which must be clearly visible both on the score and the file. (motto competition.pdf). The candidate can include an audio recording of the excerpt (motto competition.mp3). 3. A presentation of the submitted composition, with a maximum of characters spaces included. The presentation must be anonymous and signed by the motto (filename: motto competitionpresentation.pdf) 4. The envelope must contain a second smaller envelope signed only by the motto. The second envelope must contain the following documents: a) The subscription form, filled out in every field and signed by the candidate (If the candidate is under legal age by a parent or an exerciser of parental rights). In the case of group participation every component must fill out the subscription form. b) A copy of the identity document of the candidate. If the candidate is under legal age the identity document of the signatory of the subscription form is also required. c) Copy of the receipt of the bank transfer certifying the participation at the competition. d) 1 photography of the candidate or the group (for possible publication) e) 1 copy of the curriculum of the candidate or the group. Article 4 The competition s participation fee is set in 50,00 for each of the submitted composition, to be paid by bank transfer at the following bank account details: Associazione Spazi Musicali B.C.C. di Bedizzole Agenzia di Ciliverghe IBAN: IT 42 W SWIFT (BIC) only for foreign bank transfers: ICRAITRRAJ0 (last character is a zero) Stating as the reason: Application at the 1 Composition Competition 2014 Name of the candidate or the group leader Article 5 Submitted scores will be judged by a Jury composed by 5 polling members and a non polling coordinator representing the Association.

3 The members are M Antonio Giacometti (the Jury President), M Giovanni Piazza, M Patrizio Barontini, M Paolo Rimoldi, M Francesco Pavan. M Sandro Torriani will be the representative of the Association. The verdict of the jury is final and unappealable. Article 6 The competition will happen in two different stages: 1. The Jury will examine the submitted compositions and pick out, by March 31 st, a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 10 candidates which will enter the final selection. The list of the chosen candidates will appear on the site ( and they will be noticed by the e mail address included in the application form. 2. The final selection will take place on Saturday July, 19 th 2014, in place to be determined, with a concert held by Orchestra Giovanile Spazi Musicali, which will play the finalist compositions, and the nomination of the winners of the competition. Article 7 The admitted compositions must be sent by registered mail at the following address: Associazione Spazi Musicali, c/o Comune di Mazzano 1 Concorso di Composizione 2014 Fase finale viale della Resistenza Mazzano (BS) ITALY within May, 31st 2014, otherwise the compositions will not be accepted. The envelope must contain number 6 copies of the complete composition made in a notational software, printed double sided in A4 or B5, and a digital support (CD or DVD) containing the complete score and the individual parts, each in.pdf format. Article 8 Associazione Spazi Musicali will communicate to the finalist composers the scheduled rehearsal with the Orchestra. The Competition organization will provide room and board to the finalist composers (partner excluded) during the rehearsal days and the final exhibition. Travel expenses will not be refunded. Article 9 Compositions chosen for the final stage must not be performed publicly, not even partially, before the final concert, the July 19th 2014, otherwise the prize will be invalidated. Article 10 The Jury will select 3 winners, who will be awarded the following prizes: 1 place: and the commission of a musical theatre opera* 2 place: place: 500 Composers admitted to the final stage but not rewarded will be assigned a 200 refund.

4 *First place composer will receive, in addition to the indicated prize, the commission of an original musical theatre opera for the season, which will be paid Further information will be given later. Jury can assign no prize if the competitor works will be considered deserving. Jury can assign ex aequo prizes. In case of group participation, the prize or the refund will be paid to the group leader. Article 11 By entering the Competition each composer authorizes any television, radio and audio recordings, without requiring any additional burden and yielding Associazione Spazi Musicali consent to the use of the material mentioned above. Article 12 Applying to the competition implies acceptance of the present regulations. The organizers reserve the right, for reasons of force majeure, to cancel the event, in which case the entry fee will be fully refunded. All the material delivered to the Competition will not be returned, even in the case of cancellation of the event. Any dispute will be settled by the Court of Brescia. Article 13 Pursuant to art. 13 of Legislative Decree no. 196/2003 and subsequent amendments, we inform you that the personal data provided will be used in the strictest confidence and only for specific purposes related the Competition referred to this announcement. 5 TECHNICAL TABLE The orchestra is composed of musicians from different educational experiences based on the activities of the Music Academy, Civic Schools, High Schools of Music and Conservatories. The age of the performers is between 10 and 25 years. The submitted composition must be of appropriate difficulty for the performers. Orchestra: The individual parts are not divisible. SOLO parts must be restricted to the first parts.
