General technical FAQs What is included for home use? Office Professional Plus 2013 includes: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Access, Publisher, InfoPath, Lync. Office for Mac 2011 includes: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook (and Lync as a separate download). How new a computer do I need to have? You will need Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 OS. This software is not available for older Windows machines with XP or Vista. You will need Mac OS X version 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or any later version including the latest OS X Mavericks 10.9. You can review the minimum spec in the FAQ on the HUP website. How many products can I purchase and how many computers can I install the software on? Aberdeenshire Council employees are allowed to purchase a licence for either Office Professional Plus 2013 or Office for Mac 2011. The license allow you to install the software onto a maximum of 2 computers; either 2 PCs or 2 Macs, specific to the software item that was purchased. Where can I get additional technical support? Can I install a 64-bit version of Office on my Windows PC? The 32-bit version of Office is installed by default. Even if your computer is running a 64-bit version of Windows, Microsoft recommend that you install the 32-bit version of Office because it is more compatible with the applications and add-ins that work with Office. It is not possible to install both the 64-bit version and 32-bit versions of Office on the same computer. A 64-bit version is available through the Download Options link on the Thank you page and the My Account. If you purchased a Back-up DVD, it contains the 32-bit and 64-bit version of the software. Can I migrate from Office 365 to Office 2013 or Office 2011 for MAC? Unfortunately, you can t install Office Professional Plus 2013 if the Office 365 Trial or Office 365 is installed. Before you can install Office 2013, you first need to uninstall Office 365 by following the steps in the Uninstall Office 365. Will all applications for HUP be the same as those which ICT deploy when Office 2013 rolls out to all users? Not all Office 2013 applications available for home use will necessarily be made available for business user when Office 2013 is rolled out to their work PC. E.g Publisher and Access will initially only be installed on those users who already have this software installed on their work PC. Infopath and Onedrive will likewise not be installed on work PCs at this stage. It should be noted that Lync, Outlook and Onenote cannot in any way be "synchronised" on your home PC with your files or work contacts when you receive Office 2013 on your work computer due to various security constraints. The HUP version of Office 2013 is an Aberdeenshire Council "My Benefits" offering and independent of the forthcoming ICT roll out of Office 2013. Downloading and Installation FAQs What should I do if the initial program Code is not working? The current programme code can be emailed to you by following the prompts for "Don't know your program code" on the front web page of the Home Use Program. Please note that Program Codes are replaced each time the Enterprise Agreement is renewed. After March 2016 you may be advised of a new programme code if the agreement is renewed. The program code is assigned to Aberdeenshire Council exclusively for employees use in accessing the HUP site. You must not share this code with anyone outwith the Council. What should I do if I have not received the work email invitation to purchase. If you have not received the email: Check your junk or spam folder. Add "hup.uk@digitalriver.com" to your email contacts list so you don't miss any communications from the HUP store. ICT have "whitelisted" this email address so it will not be blocked by the e-mail filters. Can I re-install software that I have already purchased? Yes you can reinstall software at any time by accessing My Account. If you purchased a Back-up DVD you can also use the DVD to re-install the software. Please note that you may only re-download or buy additional products if Aberdeenshire Councils Software Assurance agreement is still valid (initially through until March 2016) and you are an current employee of the company. My product key is not working? Please ensure that you have entered the product key correctly. Your product key can be found in your confirmation email. You may cut and paste the entire product key at once. Please remember that product keys are case sensitive and must be entered exactly as they appear. Do I have to uninstall Office 2010 before installing Office Professional Plus 2013? If you have acquired Office 2010 through another source, you are not required to uninstall Office 2010 in order to install Office 2013 products. Please note: Microsoft Office Outlook 2013 will overwrite previous versions when the 2013 version is installed. However, if you have a Trial version it is advised you uninstall before installing a HUP Office suite. Please consider taking a back-up of your system before upgrading where applicable. How long does it take to download and install Office 2013 or Office 2011 for Mac? Office 2013 installs more quickly than ever, thanks to Click-to-Run, a streaming technology that lets you begin to use Office applications before installation is complete. Office 2013 uses Click-to-Run. The actual download speed depends on
the speed of your Internet connection. Office for Mac 2011 customers will continue to see slightly longer download times as Click to Run technology is not currently available for this product. If you are unsure of your connection speed, contact your internet service provider. Time to launch Windows apps 2 Mbps < 3.5 min < 1.2 hours 5 Mbps < 1.4 min < 0.5 hours Is downloading the same as installing? Time to finish Window installations (Package size. Approx. 1 GB) No. A download is a simple file transfer. Installation is the unpacking and loading of the software. Internet access is required to install and activate all the latest releases of Office suites. What is Click-to-Run? Click-to-Run is a new way to download and install Microsoft Office on Windows PCs. With Click-to-Run you can use your Office programs as they are streamed and cached on your computer. This does not apply for MACs. Does Click-to-Run install software on my machine? The Microsoft Office 2013 Click-to-Run service is installed on your computer. Once Click-to-Run is finished streaming Microsoft Office programs to your computer, Office is also completely installed on your computer and available when you are offline. Functionality and Files FAQs Can I open Office Professional Plus 2013 files using previous versions of Microsoft Office? Yes, Office Professional Plus 2013 files can be opened with previous versions of the applications. However, new features and formatting capabilities found in the new version might be lost when saving to or opening from previous versions of the software. Will I lose the documents I've created in Office 2010 when I upgrade to Office Professional Plus 2013? No. Installing Office Professional Plus 2013 will not impact existing Microsoft Office documents on your PC. Can I open previous versions of Microsoft Office files after installing? Yes, files created in previous versions of Microsoft Office can be opened with newer versions of the product.
