Preparation for nstallation: f possible, provide access to the shower drain. n most cases, the drain fitting should be installed through the pre-drilled hole before the unit is placed in the framed pocket. When installing the base on a slab, the drain must be installed before moving it into place. The base will have to be tilted or lifted so that the drain collar slips over the pipe. five inch diameter hole through the slab around the pipe will permit the collar of the drain fitting to extend below the top surface of the slab. Otherwise, a lower profile drain fitting will have to be obtained. f the shower base is installed over a basement or in a place where the drain connections are accessible from below, the drain fitting and waste pipe can be installed after the shower base has been placed in the framed pocket. The width of the shower door enclosure will be determined by the finished wall materials. See: etermining lass nclosure imensions section of this manual for more information. See applicable PROUT RM or dimensional information when planning the framed pocket. Remove the strainer from the drain assembly. isassemble the locknut and two gaskets. pply a /4" bead of caulking (silicone) to the drain hole in the shower and insert the drain body. nstall the rubber washer, fiber washer, and lock nut (in that order). and tighten the locknut. Remove excess caulking from the finished side. (See Figure 5). pply a lubricant (liquid soap for example) to the inside of the rubber seal of the drain. This will permit the " diameter waste pipe to slip into the drain assembly as the shower base is lowered into place. f installing the shower base over a basement or crawlspace, the waste pipe can be installed after the shower is placed in the framed pocket. pply a grid pattern of mortar or plaster to the sub floor in the alcove. With the drain assembly passing over the waste pipe slowly lower the shower base into place. Push down firmly until the base is level in all directions. /4" high shim is needed to insure a level base since the top of the threshold is /4" higher than the back or sides of the shower. (See Figure 6).
