Binnen is characterized by the striking contrast produced by a modern-day intervention into a historical building. The interior design of all four floors is the work of, in cooperation with designer Marjolein Bangma. A unique visual and functional identity highlights each level. On the ground floor, the grand café is a comfortable space with 18th-century timber beams, space-enlarging mirrors and an LED-lit bar. Stairs ascend to the level where not only the kitchen is located, but also a long chef s table, which seats 12 guests who are granted the privilege of personal service by Binnen s cooks. The main restaurant, on the floor above, is furnished with deep-pile carpeting in beige and pieces of fine furniture, resulting in an overall image of elegance and exclusivity. Ceiling-mounted mirrors generate a sense of extra height, while also creating a rather disorientating and surprising effect. Beneath this monumental canopy, a variety of delicious cocktails are shaken and stirred. The club on the third floor, several steps up in both position and contemporary chic, features a bar and seats that are upholstered in white leather. The result was a muddle of seemingly unrelated spaces. To create unity while attempting to define five distinct zones, completely stripped all interiors and created four rough gateways. Made from oak and beech, they form a striking contrast to the luxuriously furnished interiors to which they lead. Light from integrated TL lamps falls through chinks in these entranceways, generating an unfamiliar, almost mystical ambience. Daylight enters the restaurant not only at the entrance but also at the halfway mark highly unusual in the case of such a deep space inviting guests to move farther into the building. Cosy customdesigned sofas upholstered in velour and leather provide comfortable seating. An added touch of entertainment for diners in anticipation of lunch or dinner or patrons who have simply dropped by for snacks, cocktails or coffee is the sight of the chef at work in the kitchen. The interior itself, however, offers more than enough visual stimulation, thanks to the unique look that has given to each area of the restaurant. Design firm created a warm, modern venue that prolongs the excitement of the performance. The bar is covered in colourful theatre posters and illuminated by a cluster of light bulbs hanging from the ceiling on bright-red flexes. Red dominates the entire space, reappearing in the wooden floor, with its red-painted surface, and in accessories such as decorative fringe curtains. Indeed, one wall of the café is completely red. Furniture of different heights provides a variety of seating possibilities. A stage has been furnished with Thonet chairs and wooden tables, and tall bar stools occupy the area next to the stage.
