POSITION DESCRIPTION / PERFORMANCE EVALUATION Job Title: Director of Nursing Prepared by: Date: Supervised by: CEO/Administrator Approved by: Date: Job Summary: The Director of Nursing Services is responsible for the clinical practice of nursing which includes directing all services provided by the Nursing Services Department. As a member of senior management this position ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, programs and services consistent with the facility's goals and objectives, and actively participates in a leadership role by consulting with facility management in designing and providing total patient care and services. Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: E G S NI U Has the ability and knowledge to supervise the various departments of nursing. Directs and checks the work of the nursing staff. Promotes interdepartmental cooperation to enhance the quality of patient care. Participates in the formulation of the budget for nursing. Maintains definite outlines of responsibility and duties for each category of nursing personnel. Conducts monthly meetings with nursing personnel and documents the minutes. Formulates a plan to provide adequate opportunities for growth and development of nursing staff knowledge through inservice and other educational meetings. Recommends personnel for employment in the nursing department after interviewing them and provides for adequate orientation and evaluation of all new employees. Ensures that each patient has a interdisciplinary plan of care which includes discharge planning, if applicable. Plans for adequate staffing to provide nursing services as required and sets up schedules accordingly. Evaluates the performance of nursing staff personnel on at least an annual basis and maintains employee files. 1

Participates actively in the quality assurance program. Promotes safety and infection control throughout the facility. Maintains current nursing knowledge of pertinent new developments in patient care, products, and equipment. Promotes the hospital annex and care given throughout the community. Provides for a mechanism for the orientation of all new employees in the nursing department. Participate with other professional staff in developing and implementing policies for patient resident care. Participates in scheduling rounds to see patients/residents on the basis of a written plan. Monitors and evaluates the quality and appropriateness of nursing care. Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state and federal regulations. Adheres to the Group I level of HIPAA Minimum Necessary Standard when using, disclosing or requesting Protected Health Information (PHI). Reports to work on time and as scheduled. Wears identification while on duty. Attends annual review and performs departmental inservices. Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Attends committee, CQI and management meetings, as appropriate. Resolves personnel concerns at the departmental level, utilizing the grievance process as required. 2

Education/Experience Requirements: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. A minimum of two years experience as a supervisor in a health care facility. Current licensure by the State of Oklahoma as a Registered Nurse. Ability to work cooperatively with physicians, patients and families. Ability to manage, train and motivate. Language Skills: Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Skills: Basic computer knowledge.
