th 7 International Symposium of Clinical and Applied Anatomy (ISCAA) Bratislava, Slovakia September 17-20, 2015 Second Announcement and Call for Abstracts Early registration deadline: June 15, 2015 Abstract submission deadline: June 30, 2015
Welcome Letter Welcome Letter of the Organization Committee of 7 th ISCAA in Bratislava Dear colleagues, friends and guests, we have the honor to invite you whole heartedly to the 7 th International Symposium of Clinical and Applied Anatomy (ISCAA) that will take place in Bratislava, Slovakia from September 17 20, 2015. With respect and joy, we have accepted the challenge of holding the congress in Bratislava following the great successes we all witnessed in Krk Island, Croatia last year. Bratislava, known as the Pearl of the Danube, was the coronation city for Hungarian kings in the 16 th century. The capital of Slovakia is located in Central Europe, occupying both banks of the Danube River the European Union s longest river. The city is on the borders of two other countries, bordering Hungary to the south and Austria to the south west. Bratislava has excellent transport connections. Vienna, with its large international airport, is only 55 km away; Budapest is 200 km to the southeast; and Prague just 300 km to the northwest. The congress is under auspices of the Faculty of Medicine of the Comenius University in Bratislava, the largest and oldest medical faculty in our country (established in 1919), the Ministry of Health of Slovakia and Slovak Anatomical Society. We would appreciate if you could forward this announcement to colleagues who might also be interested in visiting the ISCAA meeting in Bratislava. This symposium is a very good opportunity also for young scientists, anatomists and histologists to obtain their first experiences in presentation of posters and lectures at international level. Štefan Polák We wish to thank members of the National Organizing Committee - our co-workers from Institute of Histology and Embryology and Institute of Anatomy of our medical faculty, the sponsors and ISCAA for making our dream hosting this great occasion a reality. We warmly welcome you in Bratislava, hoping that this Symposium will be a scientifically successful meeting, as well as a pleasant event for all of us! Assoc. Biasutto (Cordoba, Argentina) Ayman Ghallab (Zagazig, Egypt) Geoffrey Meyer (Perth, Australia) Friedrich Paulsen (Erlangen, Germany) Shane R. Tubbs (Birmingham, Alabama, USA) History of ISCAA ISCAA means the International Symposium of the Clinical and Applied Anatomy. The idea came from two Serbian clinical anatomists Mirela Erić and Dragan Krivokuća who held the first symposium in Novi Sad (Serbia) in 2009. The main purpose was to bring together scientists involved in the practical application of the anatomical research from around the globe to discuss and advance our knowledge. Based on the success of this symposium, others followed annually spreading the idea of ISCAA. The symposium serves as a platform for presentation and discussion of the basic and applied research in systemic, topographic, surface, variant, applied and clinical anatomy as well as in the histology, embryology and related sciences (both human and animal models) having a relationship with the clinical medicine. Each year it hosts participants not only from the area in which the symposia are held (from Middle Europe to Near East) but also from other continents. Nevertheless, the family atmosphere based on the active participation of mainly younger investigators (including both the undergraduate and postgraduate students) is the mighty impetus of this platform. I have no doubt that the 7 th symposium will be the most enjoyable event of your year thanks to the local organizers, sponsors and ISCAA organizers. You are cordially invited to join us! Assoc. Prof. David Kachlik, MD, PhD. Institute of Anatomy, Third Faculty of Medicine, Charles Univesity in Prague, Co-President of the 2 nd ISCAA in Prague 3

Our country is mountainous, High Tatras (in Slovak, Vysoké Tatry) in the north part is the area whose natural beauty makes it one of the most remarkable recreation areas, and south and east parts are important agricultural areas. In Slovakia, you will be able to find things that are nowhere else in the world. National park Slovak Karst (in Slovak, Slovenský kras), the largest karst area in central Europe, wherein there are 1100 caves. Some of them have been proclaimed as UNESCO s World Heritage Sites. Among them, Ochtinská Aragonite Cave is one of three aragonite caves in the world. Slovakia contains many castles, most of which are in ruins. The best known castles include Bojnice Castle (often used as a filming location), Spiš Castle (a largest medieval castle complex in central Europe, on the UNESCO list), Orava Castle or Red Stone Castle with the largest underground complex. Slovakia contains numerous mineral springs and spas. For example, the Piešťany Spa has a capacity of two thousand beds and treats over forty thousand patients a year. Slovakia also has rich folk traditions: songs, dances, folk art, folk costumes and architecture. Complete historical villages were preserved only in some cases, such as in Čičmany or Vlkolínec (UNESCO site). Slovakia is a part of Europe that is saturated with diversity on every step of the way through it simply a little big country. Bratislava Bratislava is the capital of Slovakia. Known as Pressburg to German-speakers or Pozsony to Hungarian-speakers, Bratislava got its present name only 90 years ago. Bordering Austria and Hungary, it is the only national capital that borders two independent countries. It is only 60 kilometres from the Austrian capital Vienna. Bratislava is the political, cultural and economic centre of Slovakia. It is the seat of the Slovak president, the parliament and the Slovak Executive. It is home to several universities, museums, theatres, galleries and other important cultural and educational institutions. Comenius University in Bratislava is the oldest and biggest university in Slovakia. It is named after Johann Amos Comenius, a 17th-century Czech teacher and philosopher. Comenius was the innovator who first applied effective teaching based on the natural gradual growth from simple to more comprehensive concepts, and opened doors to education for women. Besides his native Lands of the Bohemian Crown, he lived and worked in other regions of the Holy Roman Empire, and other countries: Sweden, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Transylvania, England, the Netherlands and Royal Hungary. Comenius University comprises thirteen faculties, with around 28 thousands students. Faculty of Medicine The Faculty of Medicine at Comenius University in Bratislava is the oldest of the thirteen university faculties. It is the first public and oldest medical school in Slovakia. It was established on 1919. In the first three years, students obtain knowledge predominantly in theoretical and pre-clinical subjects. Further training takes place mainly at clinical departments.
