Connecting a SMAT Board To integrate a SMAT Board with Expression 303, you must first connect the Board to Expression's Connection Panel, and then install the SMAT Board Software CD on the internal computer. The SMAT Board Software CD includes the SMAT Board driver, SMAT Notebook and the Mini-Board driver a program that allows a guest laptop user to make use of the SMAT Board for their presentation, without installing any software. To connect a 500 Series SMAT Board: 1. Ensure that Expression and the internal computer are turned off. 2. Insert the short DB9 connector at one end of the 20' (6.1 m) SMAT Board serial cable into the 9-pin serial port underneath the lower-right side of the SMAT Board and tighten the screws. SMAT Board 9-pin serial port Short DB9 connector NOTE: For steps 3 and 4 below, refer to the figure on the next page. 3. Insert the long DB9 connector at the other end of the cable into the DB9 serial connector in Expression's Connection Panel. 4. Plug in the Keyboard Adapter: First, connect the PS/2 connector of the Keyboard Adapter into the 12 V 6-pin PS/2 port in the Connection Panel. After you install and activate the SMAT Board Software, the eady ight will come back on and remain on while the Board is in use. You should now install the SMAT Board Software CD, configure the COM port for the SMAT Board and perform a brief orientation procedure. These procedures are all described below. Installing the SMAT Board Software CD Software installation starts automatically when you insert the SMAT Board Software CD into your CD-OM drive. If installation fails to start automatically, you can install the software using the following procedure. To install SMAT Board Software on Windows 95, 98, or 2000: 1. Insert the SMAT Board Software CD into your CD-OM drive. 2. From the Start menu, choose un. 3. In the un dialog box, type x:\setup where x is the drive assigned to your CD-OM. 4. Click OK, and then follow the instructions on your screen. Configuring and Orienting the SMAT Board After installing the SMAT Board Software, you must perform two more simple procedures: configuring and orienting the SMAT Board. Configuring the SMAT Board involves specifying which COM port on the internal computer is occupied by the SMAT Board and whether or not you are using a projector with the SMAT Board. To use a SMAT Board with a projector, you must orient the computer image on the SMAT Board to ensure that the Board accurately tracks your finger or a Pen Tray tool. Orienting the SMAT Board involves pressing on orientation points displayed on the screen. If the projected image becomes misaligned, you must perform the orientation procedure again. To select a COM port for the SMAT Board: 1. Choose Select Ports from the SMAT menu. The Check Board Connections dialog will appear. 2. Press the Next button. 28 Expression 303 Installation and User's Guide
The Pick a Port dialog will appear. 3. If you know the COM port to which the SMAT Board is connected, select it from the list of ports provided. or If you re not sure which COM port to select, press the Detect SMAT Hardware button to initiate automatic SMAT hardware detection on local ports. 4. Click the scroll-down button next to the COM port list and select Projected (Projector/Plasma Display). 5. Press the Next button. The Finished dialog will appear. 6. Press the Done button. 7. If you want to use On-Screen Projector Controls, select Set Projector/Overlay Control from the SMAT menu. The Set Up Projector/Overlay Controls dialog will appear. 8. Select the SMAT hardware and its associated COM port from the list under SMAT Hardware. 9. Select your projector from the drop-down list under Plasma/Projector Type. 10. Press the OK button. To orient the SMAT Board: 1. Select Orient Board from the SMAT menu. or Press the Orient Board button on the initial Board driver window. The Pick the Orientation Precision dialog box will appear. 2. Once you have determined the orientation level you prefer, select it by clicking in the appropriate circle. 3. Click the Next button. A large gray rectangular image will almost entirely fill the SMAT Board screen. This screen will contain the number of crosses associated with the orientation level chosen. 4. Follow the on-screen instructions, pressing your finger squarely on the yellow center of each red cross, in the order specified by the large white arrow. To begin the orientation, press on the cross highlighted in red at the upper-left corner of the screen. You will hear a beep and the next cross in the series will be highlighted in red. NOTE: If you press on the crosses out of sequence or inaccurately, a Bad Orientation Point dialog box will appear. To correct the bad orientation, select the OK button at the bottom of the screen using the mouse attached to your computer. This is necessary because the system has lost Board-awareness while orienting. When you have pressed on the final cross, the Orientation screen will disappear. 5. Test if the orientation was successful by moving your finger across the SMAT Board. The cursor should track your finger very closely and appear directly beneath the center of your fingertip.
