LINDHOLMEN SCIENCE PARK VISION 2020 Lindholmen is the fastest-growing area of Gothenburg, with more than 20,000 people. It is the home of an outstanding mix of upper-secondary school students, teachers, university students, researchers and business employees. OUR VISION 2020 30,000 people study, carry out research, work or live at Lindholmen. At least five new global companies have established research and development operations at Lindholmen. THE BRAND The Lindholmen Science Park brand is synonymous with: An international Science Park focusing on three areas: intelligent vehicles and transport systems, mobile Internet and media. Lindholmen Science Park offers business, university and public sectors an international development environment and access to a valuable network. This approach has generated successful partnerships and innovations. Lindholmen is expanding, and the target is that 30,000 people will work, study, carry out research or live in the area by 2020. At least 20 companies with a total of 1,000 employees have started out at Lindholmen. 10 3 4

5 6 A WINNING CONCEPT FOR COLLABORATION RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OPEN ARENAS FOR ICT, TRANSPORT AND MEDIA Open Arena Lindholmen is a concept created by Lindholmen Science Park in 2004. It offers premises which provide partners with a shared, neutral environment for work, meetings, generation of ideas, As well as being a neutral physical space, Open Arena Lindholmen also represents the company s intellectual capital, where programs and projects are conceived, set up and executed. Today, Open Arena Lindholmen is the home of a wide range of programs. They all share a common concept based on transparency and collaboration between business, university and public sectors. Chalmers Univer- ICT SECURITY ARENA - Collaboration platform for societal security. seminars, demonstrations and much more. A PLACE TO MEET AND SET UP PROJECTS Diversity is extremely important to the arena. A wide range of people, including students, researchers, entrepreneurs, creators, employees, project managers, and politicians, have access to the environment. The arena serves as a base for programs and projects initiated and conducted at Lindholmen Science Park. The open arena concept is one of the reasons why the operation has proved so successful in attracting national investment over the years. sity of Technology and the University of Gothenburg host the academic contributions. TRANSPORT CLOSER - Concentrated effort in the area of transport efficiency. TEST SITE SWEDEN - Test and demonstration arena for new vehicles and transport systems. TUCAP - Technical development centre for ambulance alarms and pre-hospital care. SOFTWARE CENTER - Research centre for software development. 10 7 8 SMARTER TRANSPORTS CLOSER - NATIONAL COLLABORATION Closer is an arena which focuses on logistics and transport efficiency. It is a Swedish, concentrated effort to bring together operators, researchers, the business sector and public authorities/agencies. The objective is to improve the benefits to industry and society by enabling the various players to work more closely together. SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT The background to this effort is the environmental and energy challenges facing the transport system, along with the business sector s need for a more efficient and competitive transport system. Closer will support future research and development projects carried out by industry and the universities, and promote a Swedish vision of enhanced transport efficiency. The operation focuses on demonstration projects, where we initiate, support, staff and coordinate projects. MORE EFFICIENT TRANSPORT For the first five years, the activities in the Closer arena will focus on laying the groundwork. The three identified areas High Capacity Transports, Green Corridors and Urban Transports will gradually be expanded to include projects and investment. INTERNATIONAL COLLABORATION A long-term goal is that a significant part of Closer s operations will focus on European collaboration. The five-year aim is to become a lead partner in at least two major EU projects and a participant in other projects. The work of positioning Closer and of creating an international contact network has already begun.

9 10 FOCUSING ON THE VEHICLES OF THE FUTURE TEST SITE SWEDEN VEHICLE AND TRAFFIC SAFETY SAFETY ARENA LINDHOLMEN - SAFER Test Site Sweden is a neutral meeting place for joint research projects in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), focusing on the environment, automotive safety and logistics. Test Site Sweden is a joint demonstration, test and field operational testing resource. The operation covers infrastructure, vehicles and all forms of testing and verification during the develop- NEW TEST ENVIRONMENT THROUGH COLLABORATION The ASTA project (Active Safety Test Area), which has been run by Test Site Sweden since 2007, was formally handed over in 2011, when it became an independent company owned by SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden and Chalmers University of Technology. The Safer vehicle and traffic safety centre is the core of Safety Arena. The centre, which is hosted by Chalmers University of Technology, has 25 stakeholders in the industrial, public and university sectors, as well as institutes, which want to work together to achieve the vision of eliminating the number of traffic-related deaths and serious injuries. By adopting a zero tolerance approach, the centre produces excellent research and innovation which benefit Safer also coordinates applications for national projects, within the EU s Seventh Framework Programme and globally through partners with research environments in the USA, Japan, India, China and Australia. Within the framework of Safer, more than 55 projects and pilot studies are currently under way, most of which are funded by stakeholders other than Safer. ment process for traffic systems or vehicles. EXTENDED ASSIGNMENT The successful work of Test Site Sweden has resulted in an extension and expansion of the current assignment from Vinnova. In 2013, Test Site Sweden will offer financing for projects via an open announcement process, and will increase support for other programs which are often focused on product or service innovation. A testing and demonstration environment for research into traffic safety is currently being built under the AstaZero brand, and will provide universities, research institutes and the industrial sector with the facilities necessary to create unique opportunities. The estimated completion date for the first stage, the test site at Hällered outside Borås, is 2014. the stakeholder s operations and Sweden as a whole. Safer is based in offices next to Open Arena Lindholmen, where over 200 researchers and safety experts regularly participate in a range of projects. Safer has identified six focus areas of importance to Safer s partners, and in which Sweden has the opportunity to become a world-leader: Incidents and accidents priorities and effect analysis Driver state/action/reaction Prediction for accident prevention Methods for evaluation of safety systems Safety for novel electric vehicles and vehicle combinations Human models and biomechanics for all people

VISUALIZATION FOR MORE SECTORS VISUAL ARENA LINDHOLMEN Visual Arena opened in March 2012, and represents an important part in the overall investment in visualization in West Sweden. The aim is to make Lindholmen a powerhouse for visualization as a field of technology. The vision is to make Gothenburg a nationally and internationally recognized node for visualization. Activities carried on within the framework of Visual Arena facilitate and promote collaboration between different areas of expertise, which can generate completely new ideas and identify the associated knowledge requirements associated with these as well as potential areas of application. VISUALIZATION TECHNOLOGY Visual Arena is a world-class environment which offers public stakeholders, business and academia a joint infrastructure with visualization technology for meetings, interaction and innovation. The first five years are funded by the City of Gothenburg and the arena is run as a program within Lindholmen Science Park in collaboration with Chalmers, the University of Gothenburg, Business Region Göteborg and Region Västra Götaland. We create a unique opportunity for researchers, business and public stakeholders to meet and run joint projects with access to advanced visualization technology. 11 10 12

MEDIA - AN INDUSTRY IN TRANSITION MEDIA ARENA LINDHOLMEN Lindholmen s third focus area, Modern Media and Design, is entering an exciting stage. There are numerous factors combining to provide the right opportunities to create a Media Arena Lindholmen. One important factor is the emergence of Gothenburg Film Studios, which today has expanded into a cluster of around 45 companies. Their ambition is to attract international productions to Gothenburg. Another factor is the City of Gothenburg s express commitment to attracting the film and media industry to the city. We have the courage to try new things. At the ITS World Conference in Stockholm, we launched the Demo Theatre a new way of demonstrating research results. A third factor is based on the current gradual transformation of the media industry. Transmedia is a new concept which is starting to gain a foothold. It means that the narrative art is seriously examining the opportunities for creating new experiences offered by all conceivable platforms, including feature films, TV, games, telephones, apps, animations, crowd-sourcing and social media. CREATIVE WEST SWEDEN Region Västra Götaland offers a broad spectrum of small and medium-sized companies with expertise in this area. The region also offers prominent and leading research, as well as access to large businesses with an interest in ensuring the success of this trend. 13 10 14

15 16 10 FOR A SAFER SOCIETY SECURITY ARENA LINDHOLMEN Security Arena offers a unique environment for collaboration projects within societal security. We want to enhance the ability to handle crises and improve society s ability to cope with serious threats and disruptions. The arena runs societal security-related development projects and research in areas such as transport solutions, information distribution, information security and information and communication services. The arena s activities include pilot projects, where users can test new technology at an early stage. The arena has been involved in several research and development activities of national and international interest within, for example, the Seventh Framework Programme and in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security in the USA. International projects have been carried out in the areas of security and information and communication technology, and cover all aspects of crises management. RESEARCH-RELATED DEVELOPMENT An interdisciplinary center for safety and security, the Urban Safety and Societal Security Research Center (URBSEC), has recently been established at Lindholmen by the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology. Lindholmen Science Park has been commissioned by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency to manage the Security Arena program. The main stakeholders are Chalmers University of Technology, the University of Gothenburg, Ericsson, the Saab Group and the Volvo Group. End-users, groups of experts, reference groups and partners are also involved in the projects. We develop capabilities that strengthen society s security and preparedness.

AMBULANCE & PRE-HOSPITAL HEALTHCARE TUCAP - TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT CENTRE TUCAP is a technology development centre for ambulance services and pre-hospital care. Since it was set up in 2010, the centre has undergone an establishment phase with a number of project and information activities which have generated significant interest among stakeholders in the pre-hospital care area. Activities include around ten different research and development projects. The projects have focused on developing and testing different types of new technical support for pre-hospital care. The objective of the centre is the development of new functions which both support the players involved and improve patient safety. The long-term aim is to establish a platform for joint national solutions for alarm management, information transfer and shared situational awareness. TUCAP will also participate in the development of a general test bed for solutions where pre-hospital e-health can be tested. The establishment of a testing and demonstration environment for emergency centers is an effective way to create greater understanding of how new technology and methodology can improve the work of an emergency center. 19 20 INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS CISB SWEDEN Lindholmen s international presence and position has steadily strengthened. With Lindholmen s current global partners as a base, activities aimed at a global market continue to emerge. We are involved in a large number of EU projects, primarily within the Seventh Framework Programme. Future development indicates an even greater involvement, since these projects represent an excellent opportunity to influence development and, at the same time, build networks with other stakeholders. 2011 saw the opening of the Swedish-Brazilian Innovation Center, CISB, in São Bernardo. The center is managed by the Saab Group. Lindholmen Science Park, on which CISB is modeled, has been appointed by Vinnova to act as the Swedish node for this bilateral collaboration. Research and development at CISB focuses on four areas: Defence & Security Transport & Logistik Sustainable Energy Urban Futures We are strengthening our academic links with Brazil and welcoming researchers as part of the Science without Borders exchange program Anita Bengtson, PR & Communications Manager

LINDHOLMEN CONTINUES TO EXPAND EXPANSION AND DEVELOPMENT The expansion and densification of the Lindholmen area continues. 2012 saw the addition of a new multi-storey car park and the new Radisson Blu Riverside Hotel, which will be a valuable resource in the future expansion of Lindholmen. Älvstranden Utveckling has been highly successful in its continuing efforts to let premises at Lindholmen Science Park. The main building at Lindholmspiren is now fully let. Eklandia is building a new office block at Lindholmshamnen, with an expected completion date in spring 2013. The collaboration between Lindholmen Science Park AB and Älvstranden Utveckling AB is essential to continued expansion. The partnership with Chalmersfastigheter and Eklandia is also extremely important to the whole Science Park area. LINDHOLMEN SCIENCE PARK WORLD-LEADING COLLABORATION A PART OF CENTRAL GOTHENBURG LINDHOLMEN SCIENCE PARK The fundamental idea of continuing, step by step, the development of the Lindholmen collaboration model is now a proven concept. Success is based on credibility, which is earned over time. The development of Lindholmen Science Park has so far exceeded all expectations. Now we are facing another step, where a hotel, housing and additional office space are added to the infrastructure. Niklas Wahlberg, CEO The aim of Lindholmen having a population of 30,000 by 2020 is still a reasonable and realistic target. An intermediate goal is for 1,000 people a year to move into the area. It is, however, important to continue to focus on issues relating to infrastructure, such as accessibility and travel facilities to make Lindholmen a fully-functional and integrated urban extension of the central Gothenburg area, which is also known as the Älvstaden. LINDHOLMEN IN FIGURES 2 million people cross the river every year Buses every 3 minutes at peak times 6 minutes from the Central Station 4 minutes from Rosenlund/Järntorget Free ferry services across the river every 10 minutes at peak times 15 minutes to City Airport 25 minutes to Landvetter Airport Covers an area of 670,000 m 2 300,000 m 2 of office space MORE HOMES Älvstranden Utveckling is responsible for the process of improving the residential environment at Lindholmen. It has formed a consortium which will add 450 new, centrally-located apartments to the area. TRAFFIC ISSUES & ACCESSIBILITY We aim to focus specifically on alternative transport habits, with public transport, bicycles and ferries playing a decisive role in the continuation of a successful trend. At the same time, facilities are being provided by customers, visitors and employees who, for various reasons, rely on car transport. Lindholmen Science Park has every opportunity to lead the way in finding solutions and carrying out tests and demonstrations to ensure fully-integrated and environmentallysustainable travel. 23 10 24
