Little League Regulation VII requires a league to play not less than two games per week and 12 games per team per season. The sample schedules on the following pages provide adequate games for the situations noted. Team numbers should be determined by a drawing. In each sample schedule, the first team listed is the visitor. FOUR-TEAM LEAGUE In the baseball divisions, this sample schedule prevents a team from using its best, or any certain pitcher, against a particular team each time they meet. EXAMPLE: Teams 1 and 2 meet the beginning of a particular week and again the latter part of the same week. Both teams will have to use their best and second pitchers against each other in that given week. The schedule is arranged for a split season but can be played straight through if desired. Just combine the two games which complete each round into a ninth week. Each team will play nine games as the home team and nine as the visitors. No team will play on two consecutive days in a given week. NOTE: In softball, a local league can ensure that teams use two pitchers each week simply by scheduling teams to play on successive days. FIVE-TEAM LEAGUE In this sample schedule, each team has 10 home and 10 away games. In the second and third weeks of each round, teams Three and Five are the home and away teams in both games played by them in those two weeks. Otherwise, all teams play one home and one away game each week. Each team will play the other team at least twice in one round and five times during the season. The season will total 50 games. SEVEN-TEAM LEAGUE In order to provide a seven-team league schedule within the normal playing season, provide open dates for postponed games, and make the playing field available for Minor League games, it is necessary to schedule two games each playing date or utilize two fields. The following schedule may be used in either case and can be completed in seven weeks. For a 28-game schedule to be completed in 14 weeks, simply repeat the schedule for the second half. If two fields are used, each team will play the other on both fields. If the same field is used, they will play each other both early and late. In six instances, two teams will meet each other more than two times. Example: Teams two and four meet three times. There is one day each week when only one game will be played until the final week when only one game will be played on three days. This avoids scheduling the same team to play two games on the same day. NINE-TEAM LEAGUE This is a difficult schedule to undertake because of the number of teams and the requirement that a league not play less than two games per team per week. The schedule provides for each team to meet this requirement and play 16 games each during the season. Each team meets the other teams twice. In each week one team, except No. 8, will need to play two games on the same field or if the same field is used for all games, play two games early. The schedule provides for two fields, or early and late games on the same field. The schedule provides for Wednesday as open to accommodate any games delayed due to weather, etc. Only one game is scheduled for Saturday, allowing another day in which to play make-up games. Five games are played on one field while only four are scheduled on the other, each week. No team is scheduled to play on consecutive days. There is at least one day of rest between scheduled games for every team. Exception is Team No. 2 in the seventh week.
