IMPORTANT INFORMATION PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND FULLY The MultiVector kit is a power & video switching backplane developed for Atari full size vector game boards. A Microcontroller & CPLD handle all control functions. The kit is designed for owners of Space Duel standup & cocktail games to allow for the addition of Gravitar & Black Widow boards to form a 3 board stack. Only one board is powered at any given time and is selectable through the control panel. Space Duel and Gravitar have similar controls so no additional buttons are required. However Black Widow has move & fire joysticks similar to Robotron so those two joysticks will need to be added to the Space Duel control panel. There are two 5 pin connectors on the MultiVector PWB so the joysticks can be wired into the control panel. These two 5 pin connectors are shown in the picture below. The following is the pinout for each of the 5 pin connectors MOVE JOYSTICK FIRE JOYSTICK 1. Move up 1. Fire up 2. Move down 2. Fire down 3. Move left 3. Fire left 4. Move right 4. Fire right 5. Ground 5. Ground
The MultiVector kit controls the power source to each of the PWB s through MOSFET transistors. These power sources are +5v, +10v, +22v & -22v and are fuse protected against short circuits which would damage the MOSFET s. These fuses have sockets and are shown in the picture below. It is essential that any PWB s that are plugged into the MultiVector kit are working 100%. If there are any power issues with the boards you WILL blow one of these fuses. Again, they are plugged into sockets and only 1 set of spares are provided so the end user will be responsible for any additional fuse replacements. Take note of the current ratings for each power source 500ma for +10v,+22v & -22v. And 3.15A for +5v, DONOT mix these values into the wrong locations. The MultiVector kit has been tested for many hours to select the proper current ratings for these fuses, and are there to protect both the kit and your PWB s.
Red LED s are provided to monitor all power sources and indicate if any of the fuses are blown when the LED is not lit. If all 4 are lit then the power is good. (see the picture below) There is also a green status LED that blinks to indicate the Microprocessor is functioning.
There are also 2 jumpers to select end user preferences. They are JP1 & JP3 and are useable on Space Duel & Gravitar games only, see picture below. JP1 = jumper on = Autofire function (approx 2Hz pulse) JP1 = jumper off = Normal fire with fire button JP3 = jumper on = Move Joystick for left & right rotate JP3 = jumper off = Normal left & right rotate with buttons
Using 2 metal spacers, 2 flat washers & 2 4-40 nuts, attach to Space Duel PWB as shown in picture below. Place MultiVector kit PWB on flat surface and insert Space Duel PWB into edge connector sockets as shown.
Insert Gravitar PWB into next set of edge connector sockets as shown below. Use 2 more spacers & washers and thread into the spacers that are on the Space Duel PWB.
Insert Black Widow PWB into last set of edge connector sockets as shown below. Use last 2 washers & 4-40 screws to secure Black Widow PWB as shown below.
Your complete 3 board stack & MultiVector kit should look like the one below. On both the Standup & cocktail versions of Space Duel there are plastic card guides/holders that are mounted to the cabinet. Use these to slide the rear board of the stack (which is the Space Duel PWB) back into, you may have to loosen the screws that hold the guides into the cabinet to help with the fit.
The complete stack shown installed into a Space Duel Cocktail. THE INSTALL IS NOW COMPLETE!!! The Power up default is Space Duel. To switch games merely hold down the (SHIELDS) button and then use the move joystick UP to select the next game (Gravitar) and then again to select Black Widow. You can add credits on any game at any time by pressing the (SHIELDS) button and then use the move joystick DOWN to add as many credits as desired.
