Getting Started 1. Mimio Bars or Pads (MS Science, and HS) may be checked out from the library. 2. You must have mimio software on the computer before you can use the Mimio Interactive Bar or Pad. 3. Check under All Programs for a folder titled MimioStudio. If you do not have the software you will need to install it from the Software Deployment Portal following the steps below. 4. If you are downloading it to a laptop, plug your laptop in to the network with a blue network cable first. 5. Then go to Windows Button (formally Start) > Desktop Manager Click on Put a check in box in front of Mimio and click button, lower left. Setting Up Mimio Bar 1. Plug the power cord in for the Mimio bar and attach to your whiteboard with suction cups. 2. Plug in the Mimio wireless USB to the computer that is hooked up to LCD projector. 3. Open up Mimio Studio > Mimio Notepad and project it on the board with the Mimio Interactive bar. 4. Touch the pen to the board. 5. Calibrate the Mimio by touching the pen in the center of each as it appears. 6. If calibration does not come up when you touch the board, you can also activate it by clicking the bottom button on the Mimio bar. IMPORTANT: IF YOUR CLASSROOM HAS AUTOMATIC ON/OFF LIGHTING, YOUR LIGHTING CONTROL MAY NEED TO BE ADUSTED FOR YOUR MIMIO TO WORK CORRECTLY. CONTACT YOUR CIT IF YOUR BOARD IS NOT CALIBRATING CORRECTLY. Setting up the Mimio Pad 1. Plug in the wireless receiver into a USB port on your computer (the wireless receiver is stored on the back of the ipad) 2. Press and hold the power button on the upper left hand corner of the pad for at least 3 seconds to turn on the power. 3. Place the pen tip anywhere on the active area of the pad to wake up the pad. 4. If you do not see the icon when you touch the pen to the pad your pen may need a new battery. NOTE: The pad battery is charged using the USB cable. The initial charge may take up to 10 hours. After the initial charge, recharging of the battery will take approximately 2 hours. Screen Annotations 1. You can capture and annotate on web pages or existing documents using Mimio software. 2. First pull up the web page or document you wish to work with. 3. Press the annotate button a. Second button on the Mimio bar b. The button on the pad c. the on the lower right of on screen toolbar A green border will appear around the screen. 4. Then use the pen or highlighter to make desired markings. 5. To exit screen annotation, press annotation button again or ESC on keyboard. 6. Screen annotations are saved in the Gallery, in folder called screen annotations. 7. You can right click on the file to rename it and assign keywords. 8. Lesson ideas; a. You could save different periods under different names to finish the next day. b. Students could do an assignment, save it under their name, and graded later. Gallery 1. The Gallery contains many templates and lessons. A A A lot more are available on mimioconnect.com also 2. Access the Gallery by a. Clicking on the icon on toolbar or b. Clicking on icon, lower right of screen or c. Select Insert > Gallery from the toolbar 3. You can create a new folder by right clicking in the top window of the Gallery and select New Folder. On Screen Toolbar 1. If the toolbar is not showing you can a. Press the toolbar button on the Mimio bar (top button, see picture on previous page) b. Press Tools button on Mimio Pad c. Go to Tools > Mimio Tools in the Mimio Notebook software. d. Click on the icon on bottom of Mimio Notebook screen. 2. You can collapse the toolbar by double clicking on the blue icon on the top of the toolbar. 3. Look for dropdown icon indicating more menu items on toolbar. Pages; Inserting, Viewing 1. The pages in Mimio Notebook are similar to slides in PowerPoint. Thumbnails of each page are shown on the right hand side of the screen. 2. To insert a new page select a. Insert > New Page or b. Click on icon on the Mimio Pad c. Click on icon, middle of ribbon in Mimio Notebook. 3. To duplicate a page select Insert > Duplicate Page. 4. To add a background color or image, go to Insert > Background 5. You can also add transitions to your pages under Insert > Page Transition. Viewing Options 1. Go to View > Standard Toolbar to move the location of the ribbon toolbar. You can set it to off, top of the screen, bottom of the screen or to float. 2. Go to View > TabView to move the location of the thumbnail tab. You can set it to off, left or right. 3. Go to View > Grid, and put a check in the box, to display a grid on the page 4. Go to View > Full Screen or select the icon from the ribbon toolbar to view the presentation full screen. 5. To exit full screen either click on the icon again, right click and select close or hit escape on the keyboard. Importing Files 1. To import a Word, PowerPoint, PDF, another Mimio Notebook (.ink), picture, video, audio or flash file a. Select the import icon on the toolbar b. go to Insert > File on the ribbon 2. A notebook page will be created for each page/slide in the file. 3. If you import a power point it will not import sound, animation or and any hyperlinks. 4. You can also drag a drop a file from saved location onto a notebook page. 5. To get rid of blue outline on an embedded video or a multimedia file, by locking it in place. Copy/Paste, Screen Clippings and Textboxes 1. You can copy and paste items. a. Right click on item (can be in web page or another document) b. Go back to Mimio right click and paste. c. Can also use copy and paste on ribbon. 2. You can save an item/picture to your gallery by opening the gallery, open a folder, drag and drop item into the gallery (lower right) 3. There is a screen clipping tool on the tool bar. You can use this to capture pictures, problems, examples, etc. Will work on any screen; web pages, PDF, Word etc. Navigate first to where the image is that you wish to capture. Then click on the insert icon and select insert screen clipping your screen will go gray and you can select what type of clipping you want. Square oval/round lasso/freeform Then left click with your mouse, hold and drag to capture the image. When you release the left click button on your mouse the image will insert in your mimio studio. 4. Add a text box by click on the on the tool bar. Then click and drag where you want a textbox. 5. Add shapes by using the icon on the on screen toolbar 6. Change your fill and outline color, if desired, before drawing your shape(s) Note: When using the shape tools (including shape recognition) DO NOT select the pen tool after selecting the shape. Lesson ideas; Paste an item with labels into notebook. Cover up the labels with a white rectangle. Then rectangle can be moved to self-check. Add picture without labels. Presentation Applications The presentation applications are located under the icon the toolbar. on the lower right side of 1. Reveal. a. Make sure calibration is set b. Click and drag one of the arrows to reveal screen c. Can change transparency also 2. Spotlight a. Grab blue rim to change size. b. Can change shape, size and transparency (under blue icon). c. To exit press red X (upper right hand corner of screen) or select Exit. 3. Text Tools a. Will bring up a keyboard. b. Cursor needs to be in a place where text can be entered, ie. Textbox or web address bar. 4. Quick Vote (requires mimio responders-which we don t have) 5. Recorder-Allows you to record what is happening on your screen a. Click on Recorder b. Click on the red button to begin recording c. Click on the stop square to stop recording d. Click on green triangle to preview video e. Click on File > Save to save video file Note: If you cannot find the video Recorder window after you begin recording, so you can stop recording, either reopen it from the mimio toolbar or use the show hidden icons button on your computer s task bar to reopen it. 6. View (for use with a mimio document camera-which we don t have) 7. More Tools a. Calculator b. Magnify i. ESC will take you out of magnify, or Exit on setting ii. Can also use the zoom tool on upper right hand corner of toolbar. iii. To exit press red X (upper right hand corner of screen) or select Exit. c. Inserting a Hyperlink 1. Select an item (shape, textbox, image) to hyperlink to. 2. Insert > Hyperlink on ribbon. 3. Can hyperlink to a webpage, other pages in Mimio Notebook or other files. 4. To get rid of blue line around Hyperlinked image, lock the item. (see below) Ordering & Layers 1. Go to Format > Ordering on ribbon. 2. Can use to put background color/shape behind an item. Several options are also available by right clicking on an item. Grouping 1. Select first item, hold Shift button and select second item. 2. Go to Format > Grouping on ribbon. 3. Can be used to create a picture with a label. Aligning objects 1. Select two or more objects (hold the shift key down or draw a selection box around the items) 2. Go to Format > Align 3. Make selection Cloning Objects You can create an infinite clone of an object for drag and drop activities 1. Select and item first 2. Insert > Clone 3. To make the blue box around the object disappear, lock it in place (see below) Locking Objects 1. You can lock objects so they can t be manipulated or moved. 2. Go to Format > Locking > Lock 3. You can also unlock objects, for example on lessons you get from online, so you can edit and modify them. 4. To get rid of blue outline on an embedded file or cloned object, lock it in place. Transparency 1. Click on an object or a shape. 2. Select the transparency icon on the toolbar. 3. Select on percentage desired. Duplicate Pages 1. You can create a duplicate slide by going to Insert > Duplicate Page. 2. You can also create a template by going to multi-page view, right click and copy the desired slide then right click and paste it into an open gallery file. It will be saved as a template. 3. To rename a template file, right click on it in the Gallery and go to properties. Drawing Horizontal Lines 1. Hold down the shift key while drawing a line (under the shape tool) and it will be true horizontal line. Saving Your File/Lesson 1. File > Save As (will save as a.ink file) 2. Can save files to common drive for access by others (they must have MimioStudio installed to view the file) 3. Can also email files to colleagues. Creating Activities This was added with Mimio Studio version 9 and allows you to build interactive activities in minutes. To add an activity 1. Go to Insert > New Activity or 2. Select the icon on the toolbar ribbon Follow the onscreen steps. Go to Help > Check for Updates 2. It will tell you if an update is available 3. If there is an update available, click the Install button Last Updated: 2/15/2013 Page 10 of 12

Customizing Buttons on Mimio Bar 1. Go to Tools > Settings > Interactive 2. Make the selections you want 3. Select options > apply > save 4. You can use the unassigned setting for students who want to push buttons so it will do nothing. Mounting Location of Mimio Bar 1. I would recommend mounting your mimio bar horizontally on your whiteboard, just about the marker tray of the board, just for added support/safety. 2. If you do that you can indicate that under your settings a. Tools > Settings > Ink Capture > Device Mounting b. Select the appropriate location c. Select Apply d.
