Presser foot lever Rise nd lower the presser foot lever to rise nd lower the presser foot. Reverse/reinforement stith utton Press the reverse/reinforement stith utton to sew reverse stithes. Reverse stithes re sewn y keeping the utton pressed down to sew in the opposite diretion. For detils, refer to Sewing reinforement stithes (pge 30). Buttons provided on some s Strt/stop utton (for s equipped with the strt/stop utton) Press the strt/stop utton to strt or stop sewing. The mhine sews t slow speed t the eginning of sewing while the utton is depressed. When sewing is stopped, the needle is lowered in the fri. For detils, refer to Strting to sew (pge 29). d Needle position utton (for s equipped with the needle position utton) Press the needle position utton to rise or lower the needle. Pressing the utton twie sews one stith. e Sewing speed ontroller (for s equipped with the sewing speed ontroller) Slide the sewing speed ontroller to djust the sewing speed. 6

USING YOUR SEWING MACHINE Power supply preutions Be sure to oserve the following preutions onerning the power supply. WARNING Use only regulr household eletriity for the power soure. Using other power soures my result in fire, eletri shok, or dmge to the mhine. Mke sure tht the plugs on the power ord re firmly inserted into the eletril outlet nd the power supply jk on the mhine. Do not insert the plug on the power ord into n eletril outlet tht is in poor ondition. Turn off the min power nd remove the plug in the following irumstnes: When you re wy from the mhine After using the mhine When the power fils during use When the mhine does not operte orretly due to d onnetion or disonnetion During eletril storms Use only the power ord inluded with this mhine. Do not use extension ords or multi-plug dpters with mny other pplines plugged in to them. Fire or eletri shok my result. Do not touh the plug with wet hnds. Eletri shok my result. To redue the risk of eletri shok, this plug is intended to fit in polrized outlet only one wy. If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, ontt qulified eletriin to instll the proper outlet. Do not modify the plug in ny wy. 9

KNOWING YOUR SEWING MACHINE Foot ontroller Insert the foot ontroller plug into its jk/soket on the rer side of the sewing mhine. Sewing speed ontroller (for s equipped with the sewing speed ontroller) Slide the sewing speed ontroller to the left or right to selet the desired sewing speed. Slide the sewing speed ontroller to the left to sew t slower speed, or slide the speed ontroller to the right to sew t fster speed. Foot ontroller jk/soket When onneting the foot ontroller, e sure to turn off the sewing mhine in order to prevent the mhine from identlly eing strted. When you press the foot ontroller down lightly, the mhine will run t low speed. When you press hrder, the mhine s speed will inrese. Chnging the needle stop position rmlly, the sewing mhine is set to leve the needle in the fri when sewing is stopped. Insted, the mhine n e set to leve the needle rised when sewing is stopped. Turn off the sewing mhine. Fster You should mke sure tht nothing is pled on the foot ontroller when the mhine is not in use. Do not llow piees of loth nd dust to uild up on the foot ontroller. Doing so ould use fire or n eletri shok. Hold down the side of (stith seletion key) on the left nd turn on the sewing mhine. After turning on the sewing mhine, relese the side of (stith seletion key). te When the foot ontroller is plugged in, the strt/stop utton nnot e used to strt sewing (only for s equipped with the strt/stop utton). The initil needle position hnges to the enter needle position. Memo The speified initil needle position is mintined even fter the mhine is turned off. Chek the tle on pge 2 for the pproprite needle nd thred omintions. If you re using trnsprent nylon monofilment thred, you n only use needles in the rnge of 90/4-00/6. You nnot use the needle threder if you re using deortive threds or speil needles, suh s the twin needle nd wing needle. If you re using those types of threds or needles, thred the eye of the needle y hnd. Mke sure the min power swith is off when threding the needle y hnd. Use only twin needles tht hve een mde for this mhine (prt ode: 3096-2). Other needles ould rek, nd dmge the mhine. Do not sew with ent needles. The needle ould rek nd injure you. You n not use the needle threder to thred the twin needle. Insted, thred the twin needle y hnd, from front to k. Using the needle threder my dmge the mhine. When using the twin needle, e sure to selet n pproprite stith, otherwise the needle my rek or the mhine my e dmged. Selet stith width of 5.0 mm (3/6 inh) or less, otherwise the needle my rek or the mhine my e dmged. After djusting the stith width, slowly turn the hndwheel towrd you (ounterlokwise) nd hek tht the needle does not touh the presser foot. If the needle hits the presser foot, the needle my end or rek. When using the twin needle, e sure to tth zigzg foot J, otherwise the needle my rek or the mhine my e dmged. When hnging the sewing diretion, e sure to rise the needle efore turning the fri. Sewing reinforement stithes When sewing stithes other thn stright or zigzg stithes tht re seured with reverse stithing, pressing (reverse/reinforement stith utton) sews reinforement stithes, 3 to 5 stithes on top of eh other. Strt/stop utton The mhine strts sewing. Tke your foot off the foot ontroller, or press h (strt/stop utton) one (if the mhine ws strted y pressing (strt/stop utton)) (for s equipped with the strt/stop utton). The mhine stops sewing. Rise the needle y turning the hndwheel i towrd you (ounterlokwise) so tht the mrk on the wheel points up. (With s equipped with (needle position utton), rise the needle y pressing one or twie.) 2 Reverse stithing Reinforement stithing Memo Whether reverse stithes or reinforement stithes re sewn depends on the stith tht is seleted. Adjusting thred tension The thred tension will ffet the qulity of your stithes. You my need to djust it when you hnge fri or thred. Memo We reommend tht you do test smple on srp of fri efore you strt to sew. Corret tension Corret tension is importnt s too muh or too little tension will weken your sems or use pukers on your fri. Memo When you finish sewing, remove the oin over nd then mke sure tht the thred is shown s elow. If the thred is not shown s elow, the thred is not inserted through the tension-djusting spring of the oin se orretly. Reinsert the thred orretly. Tril sewing After you selet stith, the mhine utomtilly sets the stith width nd length for the stith tht is seleted. However, tril piee of fri should e sewn sine, depending on the type of fri nd stithing eing sewn, the desired results my not e hieved. For the tril sewing, use piee of fri nd thred tht re the sme s those used for your projet, nd hek the thred tension nd stith length nd width. Sine the results differ depending on the type of stithing nd the numer of lyers of fri sewn, perform the tril sewing under the sme onditions tht will e used with your projet. Chnging the sewing diretion When the stithing rehes orner, stop the sewing mhine. Leve the needle lowered (in the fri). If the needle ws rised, lower the needle either y turning the hndwheel towrd you (ounterlokwise) or y pressing (needle position utton) one (for s equipped with the needle position utton). When using the twin needle, e sure to rise the needle efore hnging the sewing diretion. If the fri is turned while the needle is lowered, the needle my end or rek. Lower the presser foot lever nd ontinue sewing. Sewing urves Stop sewing, nd then slightly hnge the sewing diretion to sew round the urve. When sewing long urve while using zigzg stith, selet shorter stith length in order to otin finer stith. Sewing thik fris If the fri does not fit under the presser foot If the fri does not fit esily under the presser foot, rise the presser foot lever even higher to ring the presser foot to its highest position. Rise the presser foot lever, nd then turn the fri. Turn the fri using the needle s pivot. 32

Sewing hook-nd-loop fstener Sewing diretion When you enounter sem tht is too thik to feed under the foot, rise the presser foot lever. Press the lk utton on the left side of the foot. Keep the utton held in nd lower the presser foot. Blk utton Relese the utton. The foot will lok in ple level with the sem, llowing the fri to feed. Use only the ungummed hook-nd-loop fstener whih is for sewing. If the glue is tthed to the needle or the oin hook re, it my use mlfuntion. If the hook-nd-loop fstener is sewn with the thin needle (65/9-75/), the needle my end or rek. te Before strt sewing, ste together the fri nd the hook-nd-loop fstener. Mke sure tht the needle psses through the hooknd-loop fstener y turning the hndwheel nd lower the needle into the hook-nd-loop fstener efore sewing. And then, sew the edge of the hooknd-loop fstener t slow speed. If the needle does not pss through the hook-ndloop fstener, reple the needle with the needle for thik fris (pge 2). 2 Edge of the hook-nd-loop fstener One the troule spot hs een pssed, the foot will return to its norml position. If fri more thn 6 mm (5/64 inh) thik is sewn or if the fri is pushed with too muh fore, the needle my end or rek. 33
