Overview This document contains to instructions to-date for the installation of Safe Exam Browser (SEB) across 3 platforms: Chromebook Windows Mac This Document This guide can be updated as more or less steps become necessary. As it stands, the files will be distributed to system administrators for use with their standard configuration management tools for either the Windows or Mac platforms.
May 2, 2016 Chromebook App Please note: It is recommended that the Chromebook App be installed via Kiosk Mode, from the Admin Dashboard. 1. Log into your school s Google Admin Dashboard as a Super Admin or Apps Administrator. 2. Navigate to Device Management - Chrome Management (left side of window) - Device Settings. As this is a device policy, ensure that you have the correct Organization/Sub-Organization where the devices that will be involved in testing are located. (It will be highlighted in blue.) 3. Scroll down to Kiosk Settings - Kiosk Apps and select Manage Kiosk Applications. 4. Select Chrome Web Store and search for ISA 2016. Select Add. Be sure to Save your work (blue button, bottom of window) before exiting this window. 5. NOTE: There is a second SAVE button in the device settings screen (lower right corner) which must be selected as well. Chrome policy changes (and apps) can take up to a half hour to update on the devices themselves. You can also log into the student device, open the Chrome browser and type Chrome://policy, then select the Reload Policies to force the update. You will then need to restart the device in order to engage the App. It will appear in the APPS menu in the lower left corner of the screen when no users are logged into the device. Running the ISA Chromebook App: Do not log in to the Chromebook. With the Chromebook turned on, look for the word Apps in the bottom left corner of the screen. Select Apps and you should see the ISA icon. Select the icon to launch it. Installing/Running the ISA Chromebook App, in Kiosk Mode, in an unmanaged environment: 1. Log into the Chromebook as the Owner Account of the Device. 2. Open the Chrome browser. In the address bar paste the following link: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/2016-isa/nabbefopoffnlgcldljkkojcgleiofji 3. Click Add to Chrome to add the app to your Chromebook. Review the security settings. Click Add App. It will install it in your Apps folder.
May 2, 2016 4. Click the Magnifying Glass at the bottom-left corner of the screen and select the Apps folder. 5. Find the ISA Icon and select it to launch the App 6. Open a new tab in Chrome, and enter chrome://extensions in the address bar. Press Enter. 7. Select the Developer Mode check box. 8. Click Manage Kiosk Applications. If you do not see Manage Kiosk Applications, you do not have the correct owner account information. (You are not logged on as the Owner of the Chromebook.) Go back to step 1, and log in as the Owner Account. 9. Enter ISA 2016 in the Add kiosk application box. Click Add. Click Done. 10. Press Enter. ISA appears in the tray under Apps for a user to open from the shelf. 11. Sign out of the Chromebook. Running the ISA Chromebook App: Do not log in to the Chromebook. With the Chromebook turned on, look for the word Apps in the bottom left corner of the screen. Select Apps and you should see the ISA icon. Select the icon to launch it.
Windows 7, 8 & 10 Installing/Running in a Managed Environment: MSI Please Note: Version will be available as a standard MSI file for distribution by customer system and configuration management administrators 1. In order for the MSI file to install successfully, ensure that the.net Framework 4.5 or later is installed. If it is not installed you can find the download details on the Microsoft.NET Framework 4.5 page. 2. Deploy SEB using the MSI and following the typical protocol Installing/Running in a Managed Environment: EXE 1. Copy the file to a local drive. 2. Navigate to file in explorer. 3. Double-click file to install (produces error. For installation, must Run as administrator). 4. Right click file and Run as administrator 5. User Account Control Popup. Click <Yes>. 6. If no Microsoft.NET Framework 4.5 on machine: a. SafeExamBrowser requires the following items to be installed on your computer. Click Install to begin installing these requirements. Click <Install>. b. Downloading c. Extracting d. Installation Progress, Please wait while the.net Framework is being installed. 7. Welcome to the Install Shield Wizard for Safe Exam Browser. Click <Next>. 8. License Agreement. Click I agree radio button and then click <Next>. 9. Ready to Install the Program. Click <Install>. 10. InstallShield Wizard Completed. Click <Finish>. 11. Adds Safe Exam Browser icon to desktop. Start SEB by clicking the icon. Note: Use CTRL+Q to shut down SEB.
Mac Installing/Running in a Managed Environment 1. Version will be available as a PKG/DMG distribution package for Apple Macintosh systems that can be deployed via standard methods for that platform including configuration management tools designed to manage OS X fleet configurations. a. Note: The DMG package includes two files. A.zip and a.pkg file. Double-Click the *.pkg to install Safe Exam Browser.app into the Applications folder.the *.zip file contains the same content as the *.pkg, but is for fallback purposes only should the *.pkg install fail. 2. Download Safe Exam Browser.Dmg 3. Open downloads directory in the Finder 4. Double click the downloaded.dmg 5. Double click the Safe Exam Browser.pkg installer 6. Click Continue for the Introduction 7. Click Install for Installation Type standard 8. Click Close when Complete. Safe Exam Browser will be available in the applications directory To allow MAC to open an application that has an unknown developer: 1) Click the Apple icon in upper left corner 2) Select System Preferences 3) Select Security and Privacy 4) Click the Click the lock to make changes 5) Enter your user password 6) Change the Allow apps downloaded from: radio button to Anywhere 7) Click Allow From Anywhere confirmation pop up Note: Admins will need to use the following password to safely shut down the Mac Beta SEB: 87879
