Fig. : FTS--065 Taxiway Centre Line, Stop Bar and Intersection Medium Intensity Inset Light Type FTS/FTC Compliance with Standards FAA: Fittings for straight sections in compliance with FAA L-85A and L-85C specification, AC50/55-6 (current edition) Fittings for curves in compliance with FAA L-85B and L-85D, except horizontal light distribution. ICAO: In compliance with Annex, Vol. I, para 5.. NATO: In compliance with STANAG 6. Fig. Uses Centre line taxiway lights, on straight and curved sections and on rapid exit taxiways. Taxiway stop bar and intermediate holding position. Apron lights, to assist aircraft docking manoeuvres. Guard lights where required. Features Part of a comprehensive range of 8 and inch diameter inset lights covering all aviation ground lighting requirements. Lightweight, sturdy, low-energy and environment friendly lighting fixtures (no cadmium plating). Designed and built with simplicity and ease of maintenance in mind. Extensive use of aluminium alloys reduces fixture weight and eases handling in the field. Many components are common to all F-range lights. Low protrusion above ground (0 mm) reduces vibrations induced in aircraft landing gear and in lighting fixture itself, thereby increasing lifetime, particularly for the lamps. Shallow gully in front of lens windows maintains optimal light output under heavy rainfall. Smooth outer surface of light cover avoids tire damage and makes light less sensitive to snowplows. Outer lenses mechanically clamped to light cover through moulded, replaceable seals. Lens replacement by airport maintenance personnel is fast and easy and does not require any sealing compound or resin. No optical adjustment required after replacement of lamp, lens or reflector. Long life halogen lamps. 000 hours at full intensity, up to 000 hours in practical use. Standard adaptor rings for installation on FAA deep bases. Specific rings available to fit mounting bases and seating rings to other standards. Specific tools have been developed to ease installation and subsequent maintenance. Plug for pressure-testing of fixture after overhaul. Low-temperature lights. Temperature elevation at centre of top cover remains below 60 C ICAO specified limit. A.0.e

Installation & Outline Dimensions (mm) Installation ) On a shallow base (Fig. 7-8). 9 0 dia. dia. 0 dia. 8 This method is used in existing pavements. The 8 or dia. base is sealed by means of resin. Correct positioning and levelling are obtained with a jig with sighting telescope. Wires between the light and the isolating transformer are installed in sawcuts in the pavement filled with resin. Mounting on existing or new larger diameter bases is made possible by means of dedicated adaptor rings. 75 5 5 Fig. 7 Installation on 8 dia. shallow base. Light. HPI Base. Secondary wires. Resin ) On a FAA L-868B size B steel base (Fig. 9). This method of installation is used when building new or resurfacing existing taxiways. The 8 dia. FTS or FTC light is mounted in a 8 to dia. adaptor ring bolted on the base. The bases are interconnected by means of conduits protecting the cables. The isolating transformer is installed under the light or better, in a separate pit. See catalogue leaflet A.05.0. Suggested specification The taxiway centre line, stop bar and inter-section inset lights shall comply with FAA L-85 specifi-cation (AC 50/55-6 current edition). Their performance shall meet all requirements of ICAO Annex, Vol. I, para. 5.. The lights shall be suitable for use under Category I, II and III conditions, when fitted with the proper lamp. The latter, rated 5, 65 or 00 W, shall be a prefocus halogen lamp with an expected life of not less than 000 hrs at full intensity. The prism shall be user-replaceable without need to apply sealing compound. The use of dichroic filters shall not be permitted in order to avoid colour shift-ing. The projection above ground level shall not exceed 0 mm. The absence of a negative slope in front of the lens shall guaran-tee an optimal light output even in the worst weather conditions. The top part of the lights shall be made from aluminium alloy. Watertightness shall be ensured by means of two seals. Grommets shall be used for the entry of the wires inside the inner cover to allow for easy replacement of accidentally damaged wires. All components shall be corrosion proof without using environment aggressive metal protective coatings. The lights shall resist all stresses imposed by impact, rollover and static loads of present day aircraft without damage to the light or aircraft or vehicle tires. The optical unit shall suit for mounting on a 8 dia. base or on larger diameter bases by means of adaptor rings. The lights shall use as far as possible the same components as those of the runway centre line and touchdown zone lights of the same family to reduce the quantity of spare parts.
