Your Recycling and Waste Services Guide Recycle more... it s easy www.hart.gov.uk/waste-recycling

Your blue recycling bin service Your glass collection service Your blue recycling bin is collected fortnightly. Please remember to have your bin ready by the kerbside at 6:30am on the day of your collection. In your blue bin you can recycle the following items: Please remember all your recycling must be placed in the bin loose and clean. We may not empty bins where the recycling items are in carrier bags, black bags or bin bags. If you need additional space in your recycling bin please contact our customer service centre on 01252 622122 to discuss what bin sizes are available to you. Please do not put any of these items in your blue recycling bin: Drinks cartons Glass Shredded paper or wrapping paper Carrier bags and bin bags Plastic packaging (yoghurt pots, food tubs, trays and polystyrene) Tin foil Your green glass recycling box or maroon bin is collected fortnightly. Please remember to have your box/bin ready by the kerbside at 6:30am on the day of your collection. In your Hart District Council issued green glass box you can recycle all your glass bottles and jars. Please do not over fill your glass box or use other boxes that haven t been provided by Hart District Council. Using other boxes can make it unsafe for our collection crews and it may result in us not being able to collect it. Please do not put any of these items in your green glass box: Pyrex x Drinking glasses Mirrors Light bulbs Crockery Window or pane glass We may not empty black bins containing glass bottles and jars. Please contact us if you need a box. If you would like an additional free box, or you would like to purchase a 140 litre wheeled bin for your glass, please contact our customer service centre on 01252 622122. Please do not over fill your box. This box is too full. Did you know... glass never breaks down. You can recycle your bottles and jars over and over again. It takes just 30 days to recycle an old glass jar into a brand new one.

Your garden waste collection Your black waste bin service We offer a fortnightly garden waste collection service to the whole district, which you can subscribe to. The cost for 2015/16 is from 42.50 for a re-useable bag. You will then receive your fortnightly collections, meaning 25 collections over a year (no collections take place Christmas and New Year weeks). See our website for the full price list www.hart.gov.uk. When you join the service you will be asked to choose the size of your container, either a sack or a 140 or 240 litre wheeled bin. You can only place these items in your garden waste container: Grass cuttings Hedge and shrub clippings Cut flowers and prunnings Leaves, twigs and bark Small plants and weeds If you need additional space in your container please contact our customer service centre on 01252 622122 to discuss what bin sizes are available to you. Every fortnight just fill the container with your garden waste and place it on the kerbside nearest the highway by 6.30am on your collection day. Your black bin is collected every fortnight. It is to be used for any household waste that cannot be recycled. It should only be around 50% of the total waste from your home and may include the following: Cling film Polystyrene Food waste Crisp packets Plastic packaging Sanitary products Nappies Cat litter Remember to put your bin on the kerbside by 6:30am on your collection day. Please do not put the following items in your bin as your waste may not be collected: x Bricks, rubble and soil Garden waste Glass bottles and jars (use your glass collection box) Car batteries Paint cans Recyclable items that can be put in your blue recycling bin Hart District Council s waste policy states all waste must be contained within your bin. Any excess waste left on top or beside the bin will not be collected. If you need a new bin please turn over the page for a list of bin prices. Do you need to renew your garden waste service? If so you can pay online www.hart.gov.uk/pay-it If recyclables are found in your black bin you will be issued with a warning. After your third warning if we continue to find this, your black bin will not be collected. Did you know... Hart residents are the highest glass recyclers in Hampshire producing 77kg per household yearly. This is really good news, so please keep it up!

Prices highlighted in red will end on 1.9.2015 Over 30 recycling banks are provided across the district to make it easier for you to recycle more items. Please visit www.hart.gov.uk/my-area to find your nearest local recycling banks as we are increasing the number of sites across the district. The list below shows some of the items that can be recycled across the district: You can recycle all your worn and unworn clothes, shoes, underwear, rags, sheets, blankets and belts in a textile bank. Spectacles can be recycled at most opticians in Hart. They are in great need across the world and Vision Aid can help get your glasses there. Electrical items that can be recycled (broken or working) include hair dryers, kettle, toaster, chargers, phones, laptops, tablets and any other small electrical items. Restriction of recycling, glass and garden waste in black bins Recycling is an important part of the Council s economic and environmental responsibilities. Around 50% in volume of waste collected could be recycled in your blue recycling bin or green glass box. If you need more space in your green glass box why not upgrade to a bin. To ensure these services are used and that we continue to improve on our recycling rates, black bins containing items that can be recycled will be issued with a warning. After your third warning if we continue to find this, your black bin will not be collected. More infomration on this policy can be found online via www.hart.gov.uk/waste-recycling. To encourage recycling, glass boxes will continue to be provided free of charge. Did you know... last year the household waste collected in Hampshire was burnt to make electricity. Enough Electricity was created to power over 50,000 homes across the county.
