The Race Notice is full of detailed, helpful information which should allow one to seamlessly register athletes and arrive at the event prepared and ready to race. RACE TRAINING Race day training/inspection runs will be announced at coaches /team meetings along with other pertinent details. TEAMS Ski teams consist of a maximum of 6 skiers. The 4 best times on each team are used in the points calculation. Snowboard teams consist of a maximum of 6 riders. The 4 best times on each team are used in the points calculation. See the BCSS Alpine website for examples of points calculation under Rules and Regulations. ELIGIBILITY As per the Skiing Commission Eligibility Rules (Refer to the BC School Sports Handbook athttp://www.bcschoolsports.ca/resources/athletic-directors-handbook ENTRY FORMS & PAYMENTS This year all teams will register online http://goo.gl/forms/6s2kakvgvq Each school will register each team individually. Teams will seed their racers at the time of registration for both the GS race and the TGS race. Two cheques will be payable to Fernie Secondary School for the racer entry fees and the $100 bib deposit. Please see the attached letter from Fernie Alpine Resorts for directions on purchasing lift tickets and lunch vouchers. Online registration will CLOSE Friday, February 19 th at NOON! ENTRY FEE $115.00 per racer (includes: race fees, banquet, awards, shirt and team photos) - lift tickets are separate cost item and MUST be ordered in advance through emailing Fernie Alpine Resort. MAKE ALL CHEQUES FOR REGISTRATION (entry fees and banquet tickets) payable to FERNIE SECONDARY SCHOOL. Please bring the correct amount in cheque form with you to the mandatory check-in from 18:30 21:30 on Sunday, February 28 th at the Fernie Alpine Resort Day Lodge. The invoices will be generated at the time of your online registration and you are responsible for printing this information out at that time. LIFT PASSES Please see the attached letter from Fernie Alpine Resort in regards how to obtain and pay for lift tickets. If you have any questions with this process please email groupsales@skifernie.com. WAIVERS Waivers can be completed online prior to the event. The race notice will be updated on the website with details on how to do this. BIB DEPOSIT Each team must submit an extra cheque for $100 as a bib deposit. This cheque will be returned to you once team bibs are returned in full. Please bring this cheque, made out to FERNIE SECONDARY SCHOOL, to Check-In on Sunday February 28 th. Bibs will be given out at registration. The same bib will be assigned to an individual athlete for both races. AWARDS GS Ski and Snowboard Awards will take place during the banquet on the night of Tuesday, March 1 st. Terrain Awards and Overall Winners will be announced in the Fernie Alpine Resort Plaza at approximately 14:00 hours. TEAM CHECK-IN Will take place on Sunday February 28 th between the hours of 18:30 and 21:30 at the Day Lodge, Fernie Alpine Resort. If there is an emergency and check-in is required the next day please email the event coordinators at skiandsbfernie2016@gmail.com. We will try to accommodate this from 0700 0800 the morning of Monday February 29 th. COACHES MEETING A brief meeting will take place each morning in front of the day lodge at 08:00. The Chief of Course will be there to discuss pertinent matters. AGM This year, the AGM will be held at the Timberline Condos (directions provided in welcome package) from 18:30-20:00 on Monday, February 29 th 2015. Pizza and refreshments will be provided to coaches. BANQUET The race hosts have organized a banquet for athletes and coaches to be held at the Fernie Alpine Resort Day Lodge. It will take place on Tuesday, March 1 st from 18:30 to 20:30. Note that due to limited capacity this event is for coaches and their teams only. No other participants (ex. parent volunteers) will be able to attend. Coach banquet tickets are $25 and need to be purchased during online registration. A coach or designate must accompany each team to the banquet.
PRIZES Each school team is responsible for bringing one prize per registered team to the banquet on Tuesday night. Ex. 3 teams = 3 prizes. TEAM PHOTOS Teams will be assigned a five minute window for group portraits. All teams must be present at this time. Information on times will be provided at check-in. Photos will take place at the bottom of Deer Chair between 8:15 and 9:30am on Monday, February 29 th. Photos will be ready for pick up at the banquet. CODE OF CONDUCT The race committee requests all coaches to include the following information on school-based handouts given prior to the race and have athletes sign and return it. It is expected that all participating athletes will: Demonstrate superior sportsmanlike behavior Not consume any illegal substances Demonstrate respect for the Resort property and staff and all regulations pertaining to same Please apprise all athletes of BCSS athletic code of conduct. All school rules apply ROLE OF COACHES 1. To ensure the wholesome active participation of your athletes at all times. 2. To assist the race committee in marshalling athletes and serving in volunteer roles as needed or requested. RACE RULES Helmets are mandatory for skiers and snowboarders in all races. There will be a $100 protest fee to be submitted at the time of protest. All protests must be submitted in writing to the Chief of Course within 30 minutes of the posting of the final results. Please visit http://bcssalpine.com for full rules. SCORING Seeding is based on race results. Points per seed are calculated the same as in past years (1st place = number of teams entered. For example, if 12 teams enter the race, first place in each seed = 12 points, second place in each seed = 11 points etc.). If only 6 racers manage to qualify for the fifth seed (other racers having DNFd), the 6 racers score 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, and 7. Scoring system applies to both skiers and snowboarders. GENERAL INFORMATION For general information regarding the BCSS Alpine Ski & Snowboard Commission please visit http://bcssalpine.com Boys and Girls have the same race format and structure. Both boys and girls teams are made up of 6 racers, of which the top 4 will count towards the point total. This means you will need 4 racers to finish in order to be competitive. ZONE BERTH DISTRIBUTION There are 8 Zones represented at BC Secondary School Championships. Vancouver Island 1 berths North Shore/Pemberton 2 berths Vancouver 2 berths Fraser Valley/Burnaby 2 berths Okanagan 1 berth West Kootenay 2 berths East Kootenay 3 berths Northern 3 berths Each zone holds a qualifying race. The top qualifying teams fill the berths for the zone. Individual qualifiers may participate as per existing rules. RACE RULES AND COACH RESPONSIBILITIES 1. CSA rules apply for skiing and snowboarding 2. Ski racers may finish a race with any three pieces of equipment 3. Racers may not put a piece of equipment back on 4. Courses for the events may be somewhat shorter and/or easier in order to accommodate a wide range of abilities 5. Helmets are required for snowboard and ski races 6. Smoking is prohibited in the vicinity of the competitions 7. One coach from each team MUST attend coaches meetings 8. ALL COACHES MUST ASSIST WITH THE SUPERVISION OF ATHLETES IN ACCOMODATIONS - the Resort needs our support 9. Come right off the chair and ski down North Ridge. The course starts at the bottom of North Ridge. It is quick to lap this course once in the area as the Haulback T-Bar provides a 2 minute ride back up to the top of the course. Terrain Course Head up Deer Chair. Course is right under the chair. Daily Clean-Up/Tear Down of Race Course In order to make the race run as smoothly as possible we ask for your help tearing down the GS course each day. On Monday, February 29 th we ask that the Vancouver Island, Vancouver, North Vancouver and Fraser Valley Schools help with course take down. On Tuesday, March 1 st we ask the Northern, West and East Kootenay teams help with course take down. Event coordinators will be on course to give directions. There will be no course take down required on Wednesday.
