The trend numbers compare counts of the airspaces in their current configuration to count of the same airspaces in 2012, however due to the cutover from Munich to Karlsruhe at the end of 2012, the data are not comparable. Flight efficiency in the Federal Republic of Germany The key performance indicator (KPI) used by the PRC for horizontal en-route flight efficiency is en-route extension. En-route extension is defined as the difference between the length of the actual route (A) and the great circle distance (G) between the departure and arrival terminal areas (radius of 30 NM, or alternatively 40 NM around the airport). Percentage en-route extension is defined as the ratio between the en-route extension and the great circle distance (G). Current month JAN 2013 Radius of 30NM Radius of 40NM Evaluated traffic 195.535 184.353 Average actual route / flight 317,6 km 321,1 km Average great circle distance / flight 306,0 km 310,5 km Average en-route extension / flight 11,6 km 10,6 km Average en-route extension / flight 3,8 % 3,4 % Please note: The evaluated traffic is based on civil flights. This value is different from the value of IFR flights in the Federal Republic of Germany because some flights are not included in the statistics. For example, tracks which have an intercept point with the departure or the arrival terminal area (radius of 30/40 NM) outside of the DFS controlled are not included.
