APPLICATION The Summer School on Migration is an annual event designed for students (both graduate and undergraduate) as well as young professionals in migration field from the Czech Republic and from abroad with various professional and personal backgrounds. Please, apply through the official registration form available on the IOM website www.iom.cz. Applications will be evaluated on the ongoing basis and applicants will be notified of the selection result within ten working days after the submission of the application. The deadline for submission is June 30, 2015. Selected participants, who will need to apply for visa in order to attend the Summer School, will be provided with supporting documents by organizers. If you need our assistance, please contact the organizers. Please, note that we cannot guarantee the outcome of the visa application process. ABOUT THE PROGRAM This year, the main focus of the Summer School is searching for effective ways of cooperation within communities and in neighborhoods with a higher risk of conflict situations resulting from ethnic, religious or other differences. The Summer School will be part of The European Year for Development and linkage between migration and development will be one of the main topics of the program. The program is based on the multidisciplinary approach and offers a combination of theoretical lectures and examples of good practice presented by local and international academics, activists, representatives of NGOs, but also governmental and intergovernmental organizations (Ministry of Interior, IOM etc.). As in the previous years, the program will include complementary activities offering a unique experience, such as a concert of Roma musicians (2014), exhibition of photographs by unaccompanied minors in Patras (Greece, 2013), theater performance in a local park (2012), field trips, movie projections and discussions. For an updated 2015 program please visit www.iom.cz. Participants will have an opportunity to study and discuss different aspects of integration, diversity, development etc. and to get familiar not only with the international but also local context (through a planned visit of local NGOs and a field trip to Český Krumlov which used to be a model town in terms of integration of Roma community etc.). They will be encouraged to discuss possibilities how to implement some of the examples of good practice in the setting of České Budějovice. Through this, participants will be able to think about their own neighborhoods and will be encouraged to start an initiative, project, cooperations themselves in troubled areas.

ABOUT ORGANIZERS The Summer School on Migration is organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Department of Social Sciences, Faculty of Education, University of South Bohemia (USB). INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR MIGRATION The IOM Mission in Prague was established in 1998. IOM is project based organization and seeks its role besides others in bringing to the Czech Republic foreign best praxis and experience exchange to professionals, Czech institutions, academia and others. IOM Prague is involved in a range of different fields and projects: migrants integration, prevention and fight against social exclusion and trafficking in human beings, resettlement, assisted voluntary returns and reintegration, labor migration, migration and development, education (Summer School on Migration Studies), and others. UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH BOHEMIA The University of South Bohemia (USB) in České Budějovice is a public institution of advanced learning. Its study programs for the degrees of BSc., MSc. and PhD. include educational, scientific, research, innovative, artistic and other creative activities which are developed in various branches of studies of Economics, Humanities, Pedagogy, Natural Sciences, Theology as well as Fine Arts, Agriculture, Social and Health Studies. The Faculty of Education is the oldest of the University faculties. It was founded in December 1948 as a branch of the Faculty of Education of Charles University, Prague. It soon obtained the status of an independent College of Education. The Faculty of Education is a partner institution of the European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations (EMMIR), a unique study program jointly run by four European and three African universities. EMMIR is the first African-European Erasmus Mundus Master Course in Migration Studies and at the same moment, the only study program focusing on migration in the Czech Republic. The main and the most important task of the Department of Social Sciences, which is the coordinator of the EMMIR in the Czech Republic, is the training of future teachers of civic education with emphasis on active participation of students in various projects and researches. The faculty has been hosting the Summer School on Migration since 2012. ABOUT THE SUMMER SCHOOL The Summer School on Migration aims to build on previous Summer Schools organized by IOM in cooperation with partners since 2009. Since 2009, the Summer School on Migration offered an opportunity for more than 240 students of various backgrounds from the Czech Republic as well

as 25 countries to participate in a high quality program (the programs of previous cohorts are to be found on the IOM website www.iom.cz). The agenda is prepared in the virtue of previous successful Summer Schools attended among others by Professors Ronald Skeldon (University of Sussex), Philippe De Bruycker (University in Brussels), Heinz Fassmann (University in Vienna), Dušan Drbohlav (Charles University Prague), Romi Mukherjee (Sciences Po-Paris), Michael Dinwidee (NYU Gallatin) or the head of the migration policy department of IOM Gervais Appave. Also US experts Lori Hunter from University of Colorado in Boulder and the director of America s Voice Frank Sharry accepted the invitation in previous years. This year, the Summer School on Migration is funded by the U.S. Embassy in Prague within the Small Grants Program; the Czech Development Agency within the European Year of Development 2015 (EYD2015); and the University of South Bohemia within the Institutional Development Program. VENUE The Summer School on Migration is hosted by the Faculty of Education, University of South Bohemia. The main venue is the new lecture hall (D240) in the building in Dukelská street (Dukelská 9). All the university facilities are barrier free. Participants will have access to internet in the venue through their eduroam accounts or through password provided at the venue. There will be more venues, especially for the complementary evening program, and participants will be provided with a list with addresses and basic maps. You can find information on České Budějovice and nearby UNESCO heritage castle Český Krumlov and castle Hluboká on: http://www.visitceskebudejovice.cz/en/ceske-budejovice/1/ TRANSPORTATION HOW TO GET TO FROM PRAGUE The connection between Prague and České Budějovice is very good, there are buses and trains almost every 30 minutes. You can get from Prague (from Hlavní nádraží main train station in Prague, metro station Hlavní nádraží, red line) to České Budějovice (approx. 160 km) by train in approximately 3 hours (approx. 9 EUR). We can recommend the luxury buses of the Student Agency (from Na Knížecí station in Prague metro station Anděl, yellow line) with service on board and frequent connections (there are at least eight Student Agency buses going from České Budějovice to Prague and back every day). It is the only company which ensures that you will not have to stand during the journey. But it is advisable to make a reservation in advance (on the website or in the office). You can get from Prague to České Budějovice in approximately 2.5 hours by bus (approx. 6 EUR).

For information on schedules and public transportation in the Czech Republic see www.idos.cz For information on services of the Student Agency see www.studentagency.cz HOW TO GET FROM THE PRAGUE AIRPORT TO PRAGUE RAILWAY OR BUS STATION You can find all information on http://www.prg.aero/en/parking-transport/transport/public-transit/ HOW TO GET FROM THE BUS/TRAIN STATION IN TO THE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS The bus and train stations are situated next to each other.
