Bergen Engines Products and Applications 1

Since 1948 Bergen Engines, a Rolls-Royce Power Systems Company, has delivered more than 6,500 four-stroke medium-speed diesel and gas engines for power generation and marine applications worldwide. Bergen Engines provides extensive long-term service agreements (LTSA) that benefit all land based applications. We run an efficient service organisation with high availability of service personnel and spare parts. Major investments in the development of new products and equipment ensure that we are ready to meet the challenges from the continuously changing market. Experienced service engineers are available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, everywhere in the world. Power Systems Bergen Engines can draw on many years of experience when it comes to finding the ideal solution for the power business, and can supply power systems from a single generator set to a complete power plant, and combined heat and power (CHP). Marine For the marine market, our engines operate in commercial and military vessels, cruise ships, fishing boats and in specialist vessels designed for the offshore oil industry. Our systems are delivered with an optimised service program with fixed overhaul intervals. This ensures predictable maintenance throughout the product lifecycle. Our philosophy is to support your business with: short payback time high efficiency high power output high reliability and performance For information on marine applications, please visit: www.rolls-royce.com/marine Your Powerful Partner 2 Bergen Engines HQ and factory in Bergen, Norway 3

Why invest in medium speed engines? Integrated Power Solutions (IPS) Quick ramp up and ramp down time to support grid fluctuations and variable renewables generation Ensures continuous power supply Generating set Fuel treatment Engineering & Project Management Financial Services Ability to locate in remote places to support incomplete grids or in high demand areas such as big cities Building Aftermarket Support Heat Recovery System Electrical System Ideal for back-up power and grid balancing Cost efficient maintenance with trained service engineers Minimal derating due to variations in temperature, altitude and part load operation Quick delivery and installation The modular and pre-fabricated Integrated Power Solutions (IPS) concept gives you the benefits of a highly efficient, environmentally friendly and cost-effective power plant design. Whether you need a complete power plant, auxiliary power supply or a pumping set, anywhere in the world, we can develop the ideal solution for you. Power plants from 2 MW to 200 MW and beyond can be configured for your application needs. The IPS concept facilitates a decentralised power production concept which minimizes transmission and distribution losses, reduces costs and maximises power availability. Low capital investment cost and short payback time High efficiency (beyond 95% with CHP) and low emissions High reliability and availability 4 5

Integrated Power Solutions Applications Bergen Engines Power Range Our modularised IPS concept is the best option for many applications as lead time is short, and no extensive on-site construction is required. Power ramp-up and ramp-down times are short, and it is easy to adjust the total power output to support a fluctuating energy demand. As the concept is modular, additional generator sets can quickly be added if the total power demand should stabilise on a higher level. We offer our expertise from initial technical and economic evaluations through to a fully customised systems design 6 7

General conditions for stationary engines and generating sets Stationary Engines Gas Definition of engine power and performance data are in accordance with ISO 3046-1, ISO 8528-1 and ISO 15550. B35:40V20 Engine and generator performance may be adjusted in accordance with application, site conditions, load profile and fuel type. Natural gas operation Reference fuel for gas engines has a lower heating value (LHV) of 36MJ/Nm3 and methane number of >80. Liquid fuel operation Specific fuel oil consumption is based on marine diesel oil (MDO) with a net calorific value of 42,7 MJ/kg and two engine driven pumps. Heavy fuel oil operation The engines are designed for operations on heavy fuel oil with viscosity up to 700 cst at 50 C within ISO 8217. Emissions Engine exhaust emission levels are below the limits for engine driven power plants, as stated in the World Bank Group s Pollution Prevention and Abatement Handbook. Heat recovery Data for arranging heat recovery is available upon request. Dimensions All dimensions are in mm. Dimensions and weights are given for guidance purposes only and are based on a typical specification. For detailed information please contact Bergen Engines.
