5 aps@delmasexport.com Mobile telecom network Africa Power Systems supplied and installed some electrical solutions in most of its territories for customers in the Telecom branch. Here below the amount of generator sets sold between 2005 and 2008 for telecom applications : 2005 = 332 units 2006 = 362 units 2007 = 634 units 2008 = 674 units Africa Power Systems designs and offers customized solutions to fit local condition : Mains standby : in some cases, the local grid are available on site. One or two gensets are used in standby to supply telecom equipment. The ATS Mains / genset are designed and supplied by APS as well. Prime production : in many cases, the local grid is not available on site. Two gensets are used to supply the telecom equipement. The ATS gensets are designed and supplied by APS as well. Page 5 / 6

6 Africa Power Systems S.A.S aps@delmasexport.com A new challenge : the photovoltaic systems The photovoltaic solution is mainly used when the grid is not present on the site, for a reason of cost-effectiveness. This renewable energy solution is more and more requiered in the telecom sector. New technologies become less power-consuming, so costs are reduced and solar solutions are cost effective in a mid-term view. Pure photovoltaic system (PV) The solar system is designed to operate standalone, with any other source of supply. During daytime, the sun light charge the batteries. At any time of the day or night, the equipment required power can be supplied by batteries. The controller prevents from overcharge and a too deep discharge. A remote supervision system is set up to monitor the sites from the office. Hybrid solar systems The hybrid solar system is designed to operate in parallel with a generator set. The controller can send a start pulse to the genset to charge the batteries and supply the equipment at the same time. A supervision system is installed as well so all data and parameters can be downloaded from the office. Page 6 / 6
