vinge builds on VALUES Vibrant town. Ever-present nature 5 Vinge is located in an attractive natural environment only half an hour from Copenhagen by S-train. The vision for Vinge is to create a unique setting for everyday life in the future. The development of the town is based on a few important core values: simplicity, closeness, nature and urban life. Vinge s special characteristics are evident in the green heart of the town: an urban common that spreads out like a natural carpet, interweaving the town and the natural qualities of the area. The Green Heart is a key element of the masterplan prepared by a multidisciplinary team headed by Henning Larsen Architects and EFFEKT. The plan is a common thread that runs through all the urban development initiatives, testifying to a strong ambition to create a vibrant town on the basis of the attractive natural environment and the cultural qualities of the area. Frederikssund is proud of the masterplan, which features multiple new housing options and jobs. We look forward to seeing many good forces come together to make Vinge a very special place to live.

6 Vinge Vinge is a new town close to Frederikssund and Roskilde Fjord half an hour by train from Copenhagen. The future Vinge Station will be the centre of Vinge Vinge will become a new station on the S-train line to Frederikssund. Vinge is one of the largest urban development areas in Denmark with an area of up to 350 hectares for development and space for up to 10,000 residents and jobs for 4,000 people.

The vision for Vinge is to create a new type of town in which landscape and nature go hand in hand with a dense, vibrant urban environment. The masterplan was prepared by Henning Larsen Architects and EFFEKT and reflects the overall ambitions and general framework for development of the town. Vibrant town. Ever-present nature 7 The masterplan is the first step in the development of Vinge and local residents and other stakeholders are invited to participate.

8 Vinge vinge has a GREEN HEART The gathering point in Vinge is the Green Heart: an attractive, lively urban common. This green urban space interlinks the neighbourhoods of Vinge, combining landscape, urban life and soft infrastructure. Vinge is centred around a green heart: a distinctive, landscaped urban space that binds the town together and combines nature, urban life and soft infrastructure. It is an area where you can go shopping, exercise or simply enjoy the green setting. A school, daycare facilities, a football club and other communal facilities are located in or around the Green Heart and naturally connected with the train station, cycle paths and public transport. In Vinge, there is a strong focus on making everyday life simple. It is easy to get to the station, which means that Copenhagen and other places on Zeeland are within easy reach. Everyday life is also made easier with day-care and other facilities located close to each other around the Green Heart. Urban quality in the midst of nature Vinge is a vibrant town intertwined with ever-present nature. Living in Vinge means living close to attractive areas of natural beauty while at the same time benefitting from being in a town where people live, meet and form part of everyday communities. Vinge is based on an ambition to create a completely new type of urban community where town and landscape are literally intertwined at the heart of the town. By combining functions and qualities that are normally kept apart, a basis for visible and active urban life combined with easy access to an attractive natural environment has been created in a way that is unparalleled in big cities. If you live in Vinge, you will always be close to an attractive natural environment but you will also be in a town where people live, meet and form part of everyday communities.

Vibrant town. Ever-present nature 11 Not like any other town In most towns and suburbs, recreational areas, sports facilities, cultural institutions and shopping areas are geographically scattered. Such towns may therefore seem void of a true town centre and of urban life. As the various facilities are far apart, people may have to spend a lot of time going from one place to another and they often do so by car. The basic philosophy governing Vinge is to gather all town facilities and activities around the green urban common, which thus becomes a lively gathering point in the town, while at the same time making everyday life easier. The central urban common in Vinge integrates a green recreational urban space with retail facilities and soft infrastructure.

12 Vinge urban quality of life in a NATURAL ENVIRONMENT Vinge is close to Copenhagen, but far from being a conventional suburb. The masterplan creates a dense town with many different urban and natural landscapes. A key principle in the development of Vinge is to generate active, dynamic urban life close to nature. The ambitious vision is to achieve an urban structure coveted by many people: a place with the kind of urban life found in major cities combined with tranquillity and access to nature. Families find it particularly important that there are places where children can play and that everyday activities run smoothly. The plan for Vinge provides scope for original solutions adapted to everyday needs. Life and landscape in a dense urban agglomeration Vinge combines the best of urban life with direct access to nature in one s own back garden. To achieve this, Vinge is largely laid out as a high-density, lowrise town. The masterplan sets aside areas around the station where taller buildings may be erected and brings together residential facilities, shops, businesses and public institutions in an active urban environment. The density of buildings around the station is based on a simple philosophy of furthering sustainable development and transport and generating urban life in the town. Vinge is clearly different from conventional areas of detached single-family houses because of its highdensity, low-rise buildings and attractive communal areas. Further away from the station, Vinge features a wide variety of residential neighbourhoods. With its focus on creating a high-density, low-rise town with attractive communal facilities, Vinge is clearly different from conventional areas of detached single-family houses. Connected buildings with shared gardens help create a vibrant urban environment, while at the same time ensuring easy access to the natural landscape. The masterplan features new terraced buildings with gardens, multi-storey single-family houses and built-up areas that intersect green and blue oases such as gardens, meadows, lakes and fields. In this way, Vinge opens up towards the landscape while at the same time providing space for urban communities and urban life. A multitude of urban spaces The Green Heart is the communal garden and high street of Vinge, but there are also other high-quality urban spaces in the town: the dense town centre, the intimate street spaces in the various neighbourhoods, and the private gardens. The various urban spaces are conducive to generating urban life and cater to wishes for activity as well as to wishes for quiet areas suitable for immersion.

Vibrant town. Ever-present nature 13

14 Vinge The Green Heart is elevated above the railway line The station and the Green Heart are the two key elements that bind the town together. The Green Heart is raised above the railway line, thus creating good transitional areas for users of public transport, pedestrians and cyclists. Urban life evolves under the Green Heart in shops, businesses and other facilities in the station area.

Vibrant town. Ever-present nature 15 the station is an URBAN SPACE Vinge Station is only half an hour s train drive from Copenhagen. Located in the midst of both town and nature, it is a vibrant urban space that is completely integrated into the landscape. The undisputed centre of Vinge is the station, an urban space completely embedded in the landscape. At the station, the natural environment of the Green Heart meets urban life and the S-train. The masterplan draws the landscape up above the railway line, thus creating an attractive station area, from which there is easy access to the active town centre of Vinge as well as direct access to the Green Heart. Vinge Station has the potential to become one of the most interesting town and landscape projects in Denmark in recent times. Much more than just a station Vinge Station has the potential to become one of the most interesting town and landscape projects in Denmark in recent times. A number of different shopping and service facilities are located close to the station, but the green landscape is also very close. On top of the station, there will be a simple, iconic north-south connection that is clearly related to the landscape.

18 Vinge vinge is rooted in the LANDSCAPE The masterplan for Vinge is rooted in the natural and cultural landscape. It reflects a vision of creating greater sustainable coherence between town, landscape and people. Vinge is based on simple planning principles. The points of departure are the S-train line and the station in the centre of the town, as well as already existing paths, roads and natural connections in the area. The masterplan for Vinge testifies to a vision of creating a place where nature and urbanity meet. That is why the Green Heart is a key element in the plan. It interlinks the various facilities and qualities of the town and the surrounding area, says Sinus Lynge, partner in EFFEKT Architects. The Green Heart connects the north and south of the town from one end to the other. Paths and roads provide direct access to the various residential areas. The masterplan has a green focus on sustainable use of natural resources. For example, rainwater is harvested for recreational purposes and managed locally both in the Green Heart and in the local wetlands. Nature shapes the town Urban spaces in Vinge are based on already existing landscape and cultural elements. The surrounding landscape shapes the communal, natural and wild space. The plan takes its point of departure in natural qualities such as the watercourses, terrain and slopes that are characteristic of the area. The existing terrain ensures that water is led smoothly via green and blue corridors to relatively large wetland areas in the eastern parts of the town, says architect Niels Edeltoft of Henning Larsen Architects. The masterplan attaches great importance to ensuring good views of the attractive landscape from the town and stresses the unique location of Vinge between wetlands and fjord. The new urban structure makes it natural to follow the many public paths that provide easy access to nature from the town.
