Warning The instructions specified in this document require ESD protections to be worn at all times to avoid damaging the electronic components.

1. Scope of delivery The new USB DIO Decoder (see Figure 1) is supplied with an additional connector PCB, labeled UDD Bus Converter (see Figure 2). Figure 1 The USB DIO Decoder Figure 2 The UDD Bus Converter PCB The UDD Bus Converter PCB is required for interfacing the new USB DIO Decoder fitted with a high density connector to the flat cable of the Autolab, if applicable. When this is required, press the metal connector of the UDD Bus Converter PCB into the connector located on the bottom of the USB DIO Decoder, as shown in Figure 3. The UDD Bus Converter PCB only fits in one way.

Figure 3 Insert the UDD Bus Converter into the bottom connector of the USB DIO Decoder 2. Replacing the USB DIO Decoder on Autolab Series 7 instruments The Autolab Series 7 instruments produced after the year 2003 are fitted with a USB DIO Decoder. This section only applies to this type of instruments. To open the instrument, please refer to the Install new module in a 7-series instrument. 2.1. Removal of the USB DIO Decoder After removing the Autolab frame from the Autolab cabinet (see document Install new module in a 7-series instrument), remove the flat cable and the green phoenix connector from the USB DIO Decoder (see Figure 4).

Figure 4 - Remove the flat cable and the phoenix connector Remove the four M4x10 Phillips screws which fix the USB DIO Decoder to the Autolab rear panel. You can now take the USB DIO Decoder out of the frame. Keep the lock-washers together (7x). 2.2. Mounting the flat cable Insert the flat cable into the boxed header connector located on the UDD Bus Converter. The flat cable should be positioned firmly into the UDD Bus Converter connector (see Figure 5). Figure 5 The flat cable must be mounted firmly into the UDD Bus Converter connector

2.3. Mounting the new USB DIO Decoder Put two screws M4x10 from the rear into the back panel, below the USB-ports (see Figure 6 and Figure 7). Figure 6 Insert two screws below the USB ports Figure 7 Place two lock-washers on each screw before mounting the USB DIO Decoder Warning For each screw, place two lock-washers (on the inside).

Put the USB DIO Decoder over the screws M4x10, and tighten the screws lightly (see Figure 8). Figure 8 - Slide the USB DIO Decoder over the bottom screws and tighten these slightly Put two screws M4x10 from the rear into the rear panel, above DIO P1 (see Figure 9). Figure 9 Insert two screws above the P1 port Place two lock-washers (on the inside) onto the left screw (see Figure 10). Place one lock-washer (on the inside) onto the right screw (see Figure 10).

Figure 10 Place two lock washers onto the left hand side screw and one on the right hand side screw together with the ground wire Place the (previously removed) ground wire onto the right top screw (see Figure 10). Tighten all four screws. Warning Do not forget the ground wire. This wire must be placed over the right hand side screw holding the USB DIO Decoder. Press the green phoenix connector into the matching socket on the USB DIO Decoder (see Figure 11).

Figure 11 Replace the green phoenix connector Put the Autolab back into the instrument cabinet. 3. Replacing the USB DIO Decoder on Autolab Series 8 instruments The Autolab Series 8 instruments are fitted with a USB DIO Decoder. This section only applies to this type of instruments. To open the instrument, please refer to the Install new module in a 8-series instrument. 3.1. Removal of the USB DIO Decoder After removing the cover from the Autolab cabinet (see document Install new module in a 8-series instrument), remove the flat cable and the green phoenix connector from the USB DIO Decoder (see Figure 12).

Figure 12 Remove the flat cable and the phoenix connector Remove the four sub-d screws and the M3x6 Philips screws holding the USB DIO Decoder to the Autolab rear panel (see Figure 13). Figure 13 Remove the Sub-D and the Philips screw to remove the USB DIO Decoder

Note The M3x6 screw is not present on all USB DIO Decoders. You can now take the USB DIO Decoder out of the frame. 3.2. Mounting the flat cable The UDD Bus Converter PCB is not required for the following instruments: PGSTAT302N with serial numbers AUT84440 and higher PGSTAT128N with serial numbers AUT84460 and higher PGSTAT100N with serial numbers AUT84500 and higher Insert the flat cable into the boxed header connector located on the UDD Bus Converter. The flat cable should be positioned firmly into the UDD Bus Converter connector (see Figure 14). Figure 14 The flat cable must be mounted firmly into the UDD Bus Converter connector 4. Changing the Autolab serial number in the USB DIO Decoder After replacing the USB DIO Decoder, it might be necessary to change the Autolab serial number which is programmed in the memory of the USB DIO Decoder. This can be done with the following procedure: Make sure the NOVA software is installed properly.

Download the Edit Serial Number application from the Service page of the Metrohm Autolab website. Install the Edit Serial Number application. Switch on the instrument, connect the instrument to the computer and start the Edit Serial Number application. A window will be displayed (see Figure 15) and the connection with the instrument will be established. Figure 15 The Edit Autolab Serial Number application 1. Adjust the parameters of the instrument where required (PGStat type, Serial number and Casing type (see Figure 16).

Figure 16 Adjust the PGStat type, Serial Number and Casing type Note Set the Casing to (2000 2006) for all 7 Series instruments and to (2007 - ) for all 8 Series instruments. 2. Right click the Serial number in the frame on the right-hand side and select the Write to EEPROM option from the context menu to save the changes (see Figure 17).

Figure 17 Saving the changes to the EEPROM Note The PGStat type, serial number and Casing type can be found on the sticker on the back plane of the instrument (see Figure 18).

Figure 18 The Autolab Serial number, PGStat type and Casing type can be found on the rear panel of the Autolab
