Welcome to the 2015-2016 Canadian Improv Games Season! CIG is the largest and most geographically dispersed theatre festival in Canada. Since 1977 we have brought high school students from across Canada together to explore improvisation in a supportive and fun environment. We re entering the 19 th year of the Kingston Regional Tournament of the Canadian Improv Games and we invite YOU to be a part of the experience! In seasons past, teams from all over the Greater Kingston Region (Brockvile, Port Hope, Kingston, Napanee, Smith Falls & more!) brought their energy to the improv stage. This year your team can share the glory and the stage with them! Our Annual All-Teams Training Session and Exhibition Rounds at Winter Workshops in December provide a chance to learn, gain confidence, and meet other players. As your Regional Directors, we re committed to making this season an experience you and your team will always remember. We welcome any questions and look forward to welcoming you and your team to the 2015-2016 Canadian Improv Games, Kingston Regional Tournament! For more info, contact us (kingston@improv.ca), follow us on facebook or check www.improv.ca/kingston for the latest news! Quinn and Jacob Bonafiglia Regional Directors Winnie Lu

Non-Competitive Teams The rules of the Canadian Improv Games specify that schools may only enter teams with a maximum of eight players. But, what happens if you have more students who wish to participate? What if your students just aren t ready to compete at our Regional tournament? Or both? We have an answer for you. Many schools have two teams: a competitive team that competes at the Regional Tournament in Kingston and a non-competitive team that does not. Non-competitive teams are often used to foster new talent, or involve students who would like to learn improv but are not yet prepared to compete. Schools that are new to the Canadian Improv Games often get off the ground by first registering a non-competitive team to test the water. If you re a first year team, or have more than eight students interested in being a part of improv, this may be something you d like to consider. The registration fee for a non-competitive team is $100. With this fee your team gets to participate in our Winter Workshop session AND exhibition play, as well as free passes to every night of play at our Regional Tournament in February. If you have any questions about non-competitive teams, please contact our regional directors! Can t find the answers on the website? Call our Regional Office at: (905) 975-2987. Or email kingston@improv.ca to contact the Regional Directors.

Other Opportunities Throughout the Year: Training Sessions: Anytime throughout the year until the Regional Tournament, you can arrange a private training session with our returning knowledgeable Head Trainers, Jacob and Quinn Bonafiglia. Within these two hour training sessions, your team can learn new improv skills, practice their events, or work on specific topics to help shape your team for the tournament. Jacob and Quinn bring a great breadth of Improv knowledge, including Nationals experience and perspective, and are more than willing to help your teams throughout the season. To book a training session, please contact cigkingstontrainers@gmail.com, or the RD s at kingston@improv.ca

Exhibition Nights: Exhibition nights are a unique opportunity to allow teams the chance to perform their events or play games in a mock-tournament style. At Exhibition nights, teams also have the chance to receive adjudication from our volunteers, where they can get some good tips on how to improve in preparation for the Regional tournament. Although Exhibition nights are hosted by teams and held at their respective high school, we are more than happy to send volunteers to help run the event and provide adjudication as mentioned above. If you are interested in hosting an Exhibition night, please contact the RD s at kingston@improv.ca. Winter Workshops: As mentioned above, Winter Workshops will be happening on Dec. 11 th -12 th this year, and is free for teams who have registered with CIG Kingston (through filling out this package). Winter Workshops include two exhibition nights, and a full day of workshops on Saturday Dec. 12 th. These workshops provide a great opportunity for students to learn critical improv skills that will help them perform each event. The workshops range in skill from beginner advanced, including some open workshops, offering a great learning opportunity for everyone! Additionally, there is a Coaches Meeting where coaches can sit down with the RD s to discuss any new changes happening this year, and how the season will move forward to the Regional Tournament. NEW: FREE ALL TEAMS TRAINING INITIATIVE In an effort to expand the Kingston region, we are launching free all teams training sessions this year. These can take place anytime from October January. Hosted by high schools for surrounding schools in their vicinity. For example, we will have a Belleville All Teams Training Night, hosted by a school in Belleville, for all teams close by. Will consist of workshops to build on critical improv skills, helping new and experienced players prepare for the Regional Tournament. Please contact the Regional Directors if you are interested in hosting an All Teams Training Event: kingston@improv.ca
