Factory Radio STEP 1: To remove the radio, the entire dash panel must be removed. No tools are needed to remove the dash panel, only your hands. The best place to start is left of the steering wheel above the air conditioner vent. STEP 2: With your hands, firmly pull the upper left corner of the dash panel. You will hear the dash begin to unsnap from the dash. You will not be able to pull the dash panel at the bottom until the headlight switch box is unsnapped from the rear of this dash panel. With your fingers, push the headlight switch box from the front until it unsnaps from the rear of the dash panel. f you have problems unsnapping the headlight switch box you can try to unsnap the switch box from the rear of the dash panel. STEP 3: When the left side of the dash has been unsnapped, pull the upper right corner of the dash near the radio to unsnap the rest of the dash panel. The dash should be completely unsnapped from the dash. Attached to the rear of the dash panel may be a connector near the radio. f you have this connector attached to your dash panel, you will have to remove it. (see STEP 2) STEP 4: Lean the dash panel forward so you can look down into the opening between the dash panel and the main body of the dash. You will notice orange tabs connected to the connector(s) on the rear of the dash panel. These orange tabs are locking pins that prevent the connector(s) from disconnecting. Pull the orange pins from the connector and you can then remove the connector from the back of the dash panel. STEP 5: Completely remove the dash panel from the main dash body. Set the dash panel out of the way. The radio should now be exposed. All nformation, ncluding Photos And llustrations, n These s s Believed To Be Correct And Reliable. STEP 6: The radio is secured to the dash with a single snap on each side of the radio. You should see a pull down lever or arm on each side of the radio. Pushing the lever/arm down will free the clips and the radio can be pulled from the dash. STEP 7: When the radio is pulled from the dash, unplug the antenna cable from the rear of the radio. Unplug the connector attached to the rear of the radio. The radio can now be removed from the dash. Wiring The Move to: Section General Motors vehicles manufactured after 1989 have a smaller antenna connector than standard antenna cables. When you install a new radio, this smaller GM antenna cable will not fit properly into the antenna plug on the new radio. You will need an adapter called a GM antenna adapter to convert this smaller sized GM antenna cable over to the standard size antenna needed for the new radio. ing The Radio Move to: ing Section This radio requires a custom designed radio installation kit specifically designed to snap into the dash of this vehicle. Other versions of General Motors radio installation kits will not work with this vehicle. STEP 2: Connect the General Motors antenna adapter to the antenna cable in the dash. (Tip: after the antenna adapter has been plugged into the antenna cable in the dash, wrap a couple of layers of electrical tape around the connection area to keep the two from separating after you insert the new radio.) Make sure all wiring to the new radio has been completed and plug an any connectors to the back of the new radio. Slide the new radio and dash installation kit into the opening in the dash until the kit snaps into the dash opening. STEP 3: Reattach the dash panel. Make sure you reattach the headlight switch box to the left side of the dash panel, and reattach the connectors near the radio. Completed nstallation with radio dash installation kit. The nstall Doctor STRONGLY recommends using an optional snap on wire harness that is specifically designed to snap into the vehicles dash wire harness connector. This will keep you from cutting the vehicles wires. This optional snap on wire harness will have wires on the opposite side of the connector that will allow you to splice these wires to the new radios wires. The only other option is to cut off the vehicles dash wire harness connector and splice the new radios wires directly to these wires. The optional snap on wire harness takes all the guess work out of trying to figure out what each wire is in the vehicles dash wire harness. The optional snap on wire harness shows you what each wire is.
