Our Ref: 000803/14 Freedom of Information Section Nottinghamshire Police HQ Sherwood Lodge, Arnold Nottingham NG5 8PP Tel: 101 Ext 800 2507 Fax: 0115 967 2896 19 March 2014 Request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) I write in connection with your request for information, which was received by Nottinghamshire Police on 31/01/2014. Following receipt of your request searches were conducted within Nottinghamshire Police to locate the information you require. Please find below answers to your questions:- RESPONSE Under S 1 (1) (a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), I can confirm that Nottinghamshire Police does hold the information you have requested. 1) The number of items sent to police auction by the Nottinghamshire Police since January 2010. Please may I have breakdowns by year (financial or calendar, whichever is easiest to source), as well as the name of each item sent to auction. 2) The total revenue from items sold in police auction by the Nottinghamshire Police since January 2010. Please may I have breakdowns by year (financial or calendar, whichever is easiest to source), as well as the auction price and name of each item sold.

This information is not recorded in an easily retrievable format. To locate, retrieve and extract the requested information requires a manual search of all records held in relation to items sold. We would need to check every listing since 2010 in order to take off those that were relisted (this happens when items are not sold on first listing and where people pay for items and then don't collect so the items are relisted). This would also need to be done to ascertain what the item was and what it sold for. An initial search revealed a total of 2102 records over the requested period. We estimate that it would take approximately 3 minutes per record to search for and extract the relevant information which would equate to approximately 105 working hours (for 4 years worth of records). This takes the request over the cost threshold of 18 working hours and engages Section 12 (1) of the Act. This letter constitutes a refusal notice under Section 17(5) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 with Section 12(1) of the act being applied 12. (1) Section 1(1) does not oblige a public authority to comply with a request for information if the authority estimates that the cost of complying with the request would exceed the appropriate limit. Should you wish for the Force to continue with your request, a more accurate figure will be provided within a fee s notice. The cost will need to be paid by you, prior to any further investigation. Please advise if you wish to proceed. Alternatively you are invited to refine your request to bring it within the cost threshold perhaps by reducing the number of years you require data for, and resubmitting the request. Due to the large numbers I am unable to suggest a refinement that would bring the request within the cost threshold. In accordance with the Act, once one part of the request is excess cost the whole request exceeds the cost threshold. However in the spirit of the Act, but outside of it, please find below the information that we had been able to retrieve and some that may be of assistance to you.

Above shows the total revenue from items sold in police auction and the total number of items sold at auction and this will be by financial year.
