Request and Answer: This is to inform you that the Police Service of Northern Ireland has now completed its search for the information you requested. The decision has been taken to disclose the located information to you in full. Question 1 Can you please give me information on reasons for their decision which have been given by trainees in Garnerville College who left their course voluntarily each year since the PSNI came into being? Answer Please see below the attached Student Officer Resignation and Exit Interview Report which was conducted in June 2007 and includes an analysis of the most common reasons Student Officers gave for their resignation. Question 2 Can you supply similar information on probationers assigned to duties after their initial 20 weeks in College? Answer Reasons given from probationers who left PSNI voluntarily are listed below: resigned at own request resigned for personal reasons resigned to leave Northern Ireland resigned for other employment resigned for domestic reasons voluntary resignations resigned to join GB Police resigned due to ill health resigned discipline pending resigned as unsuitable for police work
2 Question 3 Are officers conducting Exit Interviews required to keep full records of interview content? Can you supply any details e.g. duration of interview, questions asked? Answer Notes from the exit interview are recorded by the interviewee on an exit interview pro-forma which is attached at the bottom of the Exit Interview Report below. The interview itself can vary in length, but would be expected to take no longer than 20-30mins. Question 4 Has any research been done in relation to Q1-Q3 above by occupational psychologists from inside or outside PSNI? Answer Yes. Please see the Student Officer Resignation and Exit Interview Report 2007 attached below. Question 5 Can you supply any information on the postcodes from which applicants applied to join PSNI since it was established? Specifically, what percentage of applicants supplied home addresses in predominantly Republican areas of Northern Ireland? Is a year by year breakdown available - particularly in relation to West Belfast? Answer Searches were conducted regarding Question 5 which failed to locate any records or documents relevant to your request and based on the information you have provided. Postcode analysis of applicants to the police recruitment process is not undertaken by Deloitte, the Police Service of Northern Ireland s recruitment agency, as it was never a requirement under the contractual terms.
