Contrary to its traditional name, the University has a wide portfolio of education, covering virtually all scientific issues related to technical or similar sciences. The profile and scope of education as well as research at AGH UST is constantly changing and developing, as we are aspiring to be continually up to date with demands of the present times. We are following the requirements of dynamically changing labour market, closely watching directions of changes in economy, administration and politics. The mission of our university is up-todate education of engineers who specialise in many branches of technology (offering 54 courses and over 200 specialisations). It is worth mentioning that many of the AGH UST specialisations are unique and they have no counterparts in any other Polish universities. We want to preserve this uniqueness by combining knowledge of technology and arts, especially since we employ highly qualified and internationally recognised staff in many unique fields (environmental protection, environmental engineering, underground renovation of historical monuments and archeometallurgy, multimedia and social communication, geotourism, management in specified industries, biomaterials and biomedical engineering). BSc in Electronics and Telecommunications Bachelor of Science 7 semesters First degree graduates in Electronics and Telecommunications acquire theoretical knowledge and practical abilities essential for designing, building, practical application and exploitation of electronic circuits, equipment and telecommunications systems, networks and services. Education is based on carefully selected courses, which serve suitable education for future electronics and telecommunications engineers in order to be able to take advantage of modern technologies and computer-aided designing, as well as to create new technologies and computer tools. There is a substantial contribution of practical assignments during the course of studies (basic, major and specialization courses: wellequipped laboratories, computer-aided design tasks, projects and classes). Every student also has to do a four-week internship in a specialist enterprise or company, which will further develop their professional skills. The programme creates an opportunity for students to get a broad education and practical skills based on some basic and general courses, which will allow graduates to participate actively in the economic life and conduct their own independent activities. 4500 EUR per year in 2012/2013 academic year. However, as fossil fuels produce a lot of pollutants, among them CO2, and thus are made responsible for degradation of environment and climatic changes, new and modern technologies are necessary Clean Coal Technologies. Along these lines new specialists will be educated who do not only understand but may also apply and further develop methods which may use coal to produce energy in environmentally friendly way. Such specialists will have knowledge both in energy technologies and in chemical technologies. The program focuses on energy and chemical aspects, with special stress laid on advanced coal technologies, gasification of coal and biomass, environmental protection, process design and integration, etc. Additionally, courses on planning and forecasting in energy systems, energy policy, sustainable energy development, renewable energy and fuel cells etc. are offered. The standard program lasts 3 semesters, but the students may also apply to study in 4 semester program. The latter program has the above mentioned courses during first two semesters and additionally all students spend 3rd and 4th semester at a foreign partner university (in Sweden, Germany or Portugal). The former program offers Polish MSc diploma in chemical technology, the latter may lead to a double diploma. 4500 EUR per year in 2012/2013 academic year. MSc in Mechatronics: Mechatronic Design 3 semesters (including master s thesis writing) Designing mechatronic products requires a dedicated approach that takes into account: interdisciplinary design, market related constraints, multifunctionality, user-friendly operation and demand of minimization of the cost of the whole product operation period. Thus designers who create mechatronic products should possess comprehensive interdisciplinary knowledge, ability to co-operate in an interdisciplinary designing team as well as team management skills, and knowledge how to use the up-to-date tools of computer aided engineering. Additionally the know-how in scheduling and carrying out prototyping of mechatronic systems is very useful. This specialty of study to a considerable extent bases on a project oriented type of studying, including co-operation in project teams. Such approach leads to better understanding of specific nature of mechatronic design process and to learning techniques of solving the interdisciplinary design problems. During the study each student will take part in designing and prototyping of a mechatronic product. The study program consists of courses on design of mechanical, electronic and control systems, as well as techniques of application of software and hardware. A quarter of the courses deal with problem of integration of mechatronic systems. During the classes students learn how to use dedicated software tools as well as testing equipment in the process of designing and prototyping of the complex mechatronic systems. The specialty courses also comprise problems of designing of embedded systems as well as microsystems (MEMS) that are nowadays more and more often used in everyday life and industry. Thanks to co-operation between the Department and industrial partners students take part in actual research and development activities as well as attend practical trainings. 4500 EUR per year in 2012/2013 academic year. MSc in Mining and Geology: Economic Geology 3 semesters (including master s thesis writing) A graduate has a broad knowledge on prospecting, documenting and evaluating of mineral deposits. Student after graduation is able to plan and perform an exploration program depending on genetic type of deposit and searched elements as well as controlling process of excavation of ore horizon. Knowledge acquired during studies allows to choose optimal field and laboratory as say methods necessary for both prospecting and documentation reports. A graduate knows how to perform a field works, and is familiar with methodology of different sampling methods. Theory knowledge is not all. During studies, graduate takes part in obligatory field works and diploma field works. Place of diploma field works depends on his/her thesis (in last few years, graduates had diploma field works in Poland, Ukraine, Kosovo, Slovakia, Australia, Laos and Mongolia). An Economic Geology graduate has knowledge to evaluate collected samples under the microscope, choose samples for further chemical assay and evaluate results, described drill core (logging) and evaluate mineral deposits including, and calculate resources and reserves based on 3-4D model of deposit. Knowledge acquired in Economic Geology studies allows him/her to use the newest software to present all sort of data as maps, diagrams, profiles, controlling validation of extracted mineral commodities and cooperate with miners fulfilling geological service. A graduate is also familiar with software for mineral deposit modeling, reserve calculation and open-cut and underground mining management. 2000 EUR per year in 2012/2013 academic year. Tuition for the first year is higher to include additional, nonrefundable 200 EUR Faculty of Geology Geophysics and Environmental Protection Address; Al. MSc in Mining and Geology: Mining Engineering 4 semesters (including master s thesis writing) Graduates in Mining Engineering are prepared to work in underground and opencast coal mines, mines of metal ores, salt and other minerals, and in other mining plants dealing with the mining of mineral raw materials and in the companies of underground construction. Students of Mining Engineering deal with modern subjects within the scope of mining technology, mechanization, geomechanics, blasting techniques, natural threats (rock bursting, roof falls, underground fire prevention, methane control etc.) and geological background. With the access to the latest software and fast computers students can simulate mining conditions by the means of numerical modeling. Graduates gain full qualifications entitling them to hold top management positions in a mine. They can also find employment in research and scientific centers serving the mining industry. Students are also provided with knowledge in the field of mining economics, as well as the organization and management in the mining industry. Learning modern mining technologies, they can use computer techniques and visit Polish mines. 3000 EUR per year in 2012/2013 academic year.
