1 The is the largest public medical university in Poland. Its mission is focused on: leducating students in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing as well as in other medicine-related disciplines l educating research staff (PhD programs) l conducting research and scientific activity l developing postgraduate programs offer. In the area of Science and Research, the is known as one of the leading medical research centers in Poland. Every year over a hundred research grants are awarded for individual research projects. In frame of scientific partnership agreements the University is cooperating with the following foreign academic and research centers: l University of Alabama at Birmingham, USA l University of Rouen, France l University of Texas USA, Health Science Center at Huston l Medical University of Vienna, Austria l Medical University of Odessa, Ukraine l Catholic University in Nijmegen, Netherlands l Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Republic of South Africa. Besides of the above, the majority of University chairs, clinics and departments cooperate directly with foreign centers through staff exchange programs. Teaching activity, addressed to over 8500 students is based on professional standards and teaching skills of didactic staff together with constantly improved teaching methods to provide highly qualified specialists of medicine and other disciplines for national health care systems and for various health-related needs of the local or international communities. In the education process the University offers modern facilities and medical equipment. Recently in 2012 a brand new University Teaching Center was opened, with comfortable classrooms and lecture halls, complete with computer-compatible projectors and PA systems. It also houses the Dentistry Teaching Center equipped with new-generation dental and phantom units placing the MUL among the top quality medical education centers in Europe. Presently over 300 foreign students from various countries attend 6-year MD, 4-year MD and 5-year DMD programs and over 250 have already graduated. Furthermore, international students may attend a 2-year MSc in Biotechnology, various PhD programs and a 3-year BSc Nursing program to be inaugurated in 2013/2014. Following the entry of Poland into the European Union on May 1st, 2004, the University diplomas are recognized in the EU countries which makes studies at the MUL more attractive both for Polish and international applicants. Clinical Activity is conducted in 4 Teaching University Hospitals with over beds. These clinics provide medical services for patients mainly from the local community and are also an essential base for practical education and research work for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Education program offers theoretical ( basic sciences) and practical knowledge which is required for future nurses. 3 2 year MSc Medical Biotechnology MSc Medical Biotechnology 2 years Master programme in Medical Biotechnology designed for B.Sc. in any subject of Life/Biological Sciences. Specialising in medical biotechnology will give broad competence in biochemistry, microbiology and molecular genetics, with emphasis on molecular biology.
