Fix Kingspan AIR-CELL loosely to the outside of frame leaving flexibility for Kingspan AIR-CELL to be dished onto the wall cavity. 2. Cut Kingspan AIR-CELL carefully around doors, windows and other openings, so that it neatly abuts to frames. 3. Butt join Kingspan AIR-CELL sheets and tape with a 48 mm wide reinforced foil tape. 4. Provide for outer air space by adhering the Kingspan AIR-CELL Spacer Biscuits to the outer face of the Kingspan AIR-CELL (approximately three Kingspan AIR-CELL Spacer Biscuits per square metre required). 5. Commence installing cladding in accordance with manufacturer s installation instructions. Specification Guide Kingspan AIR-CELL Insulbreak The wall insulation fixed to the outside of the stud frame shall be CodeMark-certified Kingspan AIR-CELL Insulbreak (specify 65 or 80) fibre-free, thermo reflective insulation, comprising a cross-linked, closed-cell foam core sandwiched with an antiglare foil facing on one side and a plain foil facing on the other side manufactured by Kingspan Insulation, and shall be installed in accordance with the instructions issued by them. Kingspan AIR-CELL Permishield The wall insulation fixed to the outside of the stud frame shall be vapour-permeable, CodeMark-certified Kingspan AIR-CELL Permishield (specify 65 or 80) fibre-free, thermo reflective insulation, comprising a cross-linked, closed-cell foam core sandwiched with an anti-glare foil facing on one side and a plain foil facing on the other side manufactured by Kingspan Insulation, and shall be installed in accordance with the instructions issued by them. 2 Advisory Note: Fibre-cement Cladded Walls Vapour-permeable Kingspan AIR-CELL Permishield is recommended for cladding products that require vapour permeance. If fibre-cement cladding products are used, the cladding should be fixed by screwing through the Kingspan AIR-CELL Permishield to the steel frame. Even pressure should be applied to ensure that the upper board overlap is in full contact with the lower board. If gaps occur, close using brad nails. Care must be taken that the screw gun torque and depth settings are appropriate to apply even pressure on the Kingspan AIR-CELL Permishield without over-stressing the cladding material, particularly when installing cladding less than 12 mm thick that does not fit flat to the frame. Kingspan AIR-CELL Permishield 65 should be used when this is the case. For installations with fibre-cement claddings that are less than 12 mm in thickness the Counter-batten Method is the preferred method. Please refer to the Timber-framed Walls brochure for more information.

Use large headed galvanised clout nails or screws as temporary fixings prior to the secondary support batten being fitted. 5. Fix preservative treated softwood battens vertically to the wall frame, through the insulation sheathing, ensuring that the battens and fixings are coincident with the underlying timber studs, top and bottom plates. 6. Consider the weight of cladding when selecting the type of fixing and fixing frequency for the battens. 7. Fix the external cladding panel to the secondary support batten in the traditional manner. 4

Mechanical Fixing to Vertical Timber / Battens / Metal Stud and Track This method may be used on timber frame, metal stud and track constructions or on any dry masonry wall that will support and retain the battens and associated fixings. 1. Place framing / battens at a maximum of 600 mm centres and positioned horizontally at floor and ceiling level / horizontal joints to support the K18 Insulated Plasterboard. 2. Ensure the framing/ battens will be wide enough to offer a minimum 20 mm support to all edges of the board. 3. Use plasterboard screws long enough to allow for a minimum 20 mm embedment into the stud or, alternatively, suitable galvanised plasterboard nails, should be placed at 200 mm centres and not less than 10 mm from the edges of the board along the line of the studs. 4. Drive fixings straight and embed heads just below the surface of the board. Care should be taken not to overdrive the fixing. 5. Screws used for plasterboard fixing must comply with AS 3566.2:2002 self-drilling screws complying with the building and construction industry corrosion resistance requirements. 5

General Requirements 1. Fit Kingspan AIR-CELL neatly around doors, windows, and any penetrations, and tape if necessary to prevent air leakage. 2. Foil facings are conductive to electricity and contact with uninsulated electrical cables and fittings must be avoided. 3. When taping a plastic squeegee or blade must be used to apply appropriate pressure to the tape. Surfaces must be dry and free from dust, oil or grease prior to taping. 4. Leave minimum 50 mm clearance around heat producing flues or light fittings (refer to light fitting manufacturer). These instructions are guidelines only and should be interpreted with consideration for the specific building design. The installation of Kingspan AIR-CELL should be in conformance with the applicable clauses from AS 3999 and AS/NZS 4200.2 unless otherwise specified. Kingspan AIR-CELL can be damaged by intense heat above 105 C and contact with sparks and flame from blow torches, welders, cutting tools, etc. must be avoided. The installer must make due provision for safety when installing Kingspan AIR-CELL in any application. Cutting Cutting of boards should be carried out either by using a fine toothed saw, or by scoring with a sharp knife, snapping the board over a straight edge and then cutting the facing on the other side. Ensure accurate trimming to achieve close-butting joints and continuity of insulation. Please note that scoring and snapping would not apply to K18 Insulated Plasterboard due to the bonded plasterboard lining. Handling and Storage Kingspan AIR-CELL insulation products must be transported and stored in its protective packaging and kept clean and dry. Standing rolls on end reduces risk of damage should moisture be present in the packaging. Surfaces must be kept free of contaminants such as dust and grease, and must not be stored with foil surfaces in contact with alkaline materials i.e. wet cement, lime, etc. The packaging of should not be considered adequate for long term outdoor protection. Ideally boards should be stored inside a building. If, however, outdoor storage cannot be avoided then the boards should be stacked clear of the ground and covered with an opaque polythene sheet or weatherproof tarpaulin. Boards that have been allowed to get wet should not be used. 7
