Description RTO Code 32492 CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services. In doing so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other staff. Under the Education and Care Services National Law (2011) the Australian Children s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) publishes lists of approved early childhood education and care qualifications and information regarding regulatory requirements here: www.acecqa.gov.au. Qualification Duration CHC50113 - Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is delivered over 18 months (64 weeks of classes allowing for holiday periods), extendable up to 2 years for individual learners as required. Amount of training (768 hours) 12-hours of classroom training per week over 64 weeks Self-Directed Learning (1600 hours) 25 hours of assessment completion and homework per week over 64 weeks. Total volume of learning amounts to 2368 hours What are the entry requirements? In order to successfully undertake this qualification, you will need proficient language literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills. AITT will conduct a brief LLN diagnostic assessment.
The training packages does not identify any specific entry requirements for this qualification, however students undertaking this qualification with Diploma will need: 1. To provide a current Statement of Attainment from an RTO for the unit HLTAID004 Provide an emergency first aid response in an education and care setting in order to complete the qualification (It is a requirement of Family Day Care Australia (FDCA) that A current First Aid certificate including CPR, and Asthma and Anaphylactic management training is a requirement of operating as a home care educator with the Family Day Care Association of Queensland. As students undertaking this qualification with AITT are already operating as home care educators, they are likely to have already achieved a first aid certificate. If students do not have a Statement of Attainment, AITT will negotiate with a specialist First Aid RTO to provide training and assessment in this unit of competency.) 2. to have a Working with Children Check (Blue Card) before undertaking work placement either in a family day care home or childcare centre. (as above, students already operating as a home care educator will already have a Blue Card as a condition of their registration) 3. to be a minimum of 18 years of age 4. to be able and willing to undertake work placement half a day (8 hours) per fortnight over the duration of the course in a regulated education and care service (approximately 256 hours) AITT has determined that whilst all learners are already working as educators in family day care facilities which will enable opportunities for them to practice and develop their skills and apply knowledge from their learning, broader access to a wider variety of facilities, equipment, resources, children and families of varying ages and cultures, and varied operational practices will enhance their learning significantly. Additionally, depending on the age range of the children in their day care groups, work placement outside of their own FDC workplaces may be necessary to meet the specific unit requirements for development of skills and assessment (for example, most students will need to undertake at least 30 hours in a childcare centre nursery to meet the training package requirements) The CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care has a strong emphasis on advocacy for the rights of children; the development of strong relationships, effective workplace processes; an inclusive, respectful and responsive workplace culture; and a curriculum which focuses on the needs of a child and their individual context. Whilst the Diploma mandates 240 hours, students will be undertaking approximately 256 in a childcare centre. Students experiencing difficulty may negotiate support requirements such as extended timeframes to complete the program if necessary, or referral to external organisations to provide additional support and services. AITT will be more than happy to assist you by providing necessary support. Reasonable Adjustments In the case of disability, acceptable and reasonable adjustments to teaching and assessment methods may include, but are not limited to; having a trainer read assessment materials to Learners, having the learner s spoken responses to assessment questions recorded or allowing the learner to sit for an assessment alone in a different room. In the case of disability, the RTO will provide reasonable adjustments according to its policy on reasonable adjustments and individualised access plan will be formulated. AITT staff will pursue any reasonable means within their ability to assist Learners in achieving the required competency standards. In the event that the learner s needs exceed the capacity of the support services AITT can offer, learners will be referred to an appropriate external agency. All additional support may incur cost to the learner. Fees (non-subsidised students) Total Course Fee is $8200 (including resources textbooks and printed notes)- Non-refundable enrolment Fee - $1000 [only refundable under two circumstances: 1) If the RTO could not provide the services, 2) Subject to 10-day cooling-off period]. Remaining $7200 ($292.85 per unit in advance) will be charged on commencement of units, Students are advised prior to enrolment to refer to AITT refund policy and other student rights and obligations. RPL fees: $2240 in total for qualification or $80 per unit.
The payment will be structure into two payments of $1000 initially and the remaining $1240 at completion of the RPL. Fees (subsidised students) - Higher Level Skills program? The Higher Level Skills program is a key initiative under the Queensland Government s five-year training reform action plan, Great skills Real opportunities. The aim is to assist individuals to gain the higher-level skills required to secure employment or career advancement in a priority industry, or to transition to university. What are the eligibility requirements for the Higher Levels Skills Program? You must meet the following eligibility criteria to be eligible for the Queensland government s Higher Level Skills Program which is: Must NOT hold or being undertaking a Certificate level IV or higher qualification *a qualification completed while at secondary school is not counted Be 15 years of age or older Have finished secondary school, or no longer at school Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen Be permanently residing in Queensland Once a Certificate IV or Diploma level qualification has been completed you will no longer be eligible for a subsidised training place under the Higher Level Skills Program. You should refer to the Department of Education and Training s Higher Level Skills Program fact sheet at http://www.training.qld.gov.au/resources/training-organisations/pdf/hls-factsheet-student.pdf Students accessing Higher Level Skills Program are required to commit to completing a student employment survey within three months of completing or discontinuing the qualification. Student who are not eligible for Higher Level Skills Program are invited to contact AITT directly to discuss fee and payment options. Contribution Fees Students applying for the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care with the Australian Institute of Technology and Trade maybe eligible for subsidised training under the Queensland Government s Higher Level Skills Program. Whilst the training is subsidised for eligible applicants, you are still be required to pay a cocontribution fee. See the Fee Schedule on our website. (for eligible Higher Level Skills applicants) Participants are expected to contribute to the cost of training through a student contribution fee. The contribution fees are - $200 for non concessional students ($7.10 per unit of competency) - $100 for concessional students*($3.50 per unit of competency) *a concessional student is defined as holding a current (for the duration of the qualification) health care concession or pensioner concession card
There will be no additional costs for the tuition of training as the remaining fees are subsidised by the Queensland Government. Fees are payable on enrolment, and students are advised prior to enrolment to refer to AITT s refund policy and other student rights and obligations. Intake Applications can be made at any time. New course commencement will be in July 2016 subject to enrolment numbers. Assessment Learners are advised of the details of the assessment requirements by the trainer (face-to- face), or as outlined in the learner workbooks. Assessment is structured throughout the course. If learners are unable to achieve competency, additional support is provided through mentoring and access to re-assessment as outlined in the AITT policies and procedures. Case Study/ Role Play Questions/Examination Report Project Demonstration/Observation Presentation Portfolio Workplace assessment Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Credit transfer is available for completed past studies in areas related to the qualification that participants plan to enrol in. Participants are advised of the process of applying for credit transfer and assisted by the Trainer /Assessor to apply. Recognition of Prior learning (RPL) is "the acknowledgement of the skills and knowledge" that you have gained through previous studies, work and life experiences. If you are granted recognition in a unit/s of competency, you do not have to re-study it. Please contact your program coordinator to access your RPL kit. RPL evidence should include: Work experience Life experience Previous study e.g. qualifications, industry training Professional development programs or courses Award Upon successful completion of all unit of competency, learners will receive nationally recognised AQF certification award for CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care.
