Mikkeli Campus IT Environment Rules of use No drinking or eating in the computer facilities Keep the classrooms and other facilities tidy! Connecting your own computer to the wired network is prohibited -> use WLAN Consists of computer classrooms #1 and #3 and computer lab Aquarium and study rooms Connected to Internet via Aalto University Network about 120 workstations WLANs for students in 2nd and 3rd floor Aalto Open, no user authentication needed, unprotected network! eduroam, encrypted network, requires authentication and configuration for the device you use (https://inside.aalto.fi/display/itservices/wireless+networks) Keep in mind when using Wireless Network: Always use updated anti-virus software in your computer. Always use software firewall, which has been turned on.
GENERAL INFORMATION Main IT services are hosted by Aalto IT Services and located in Otaniemi campus Servers (email, web, print, file etc.) Centralized software distribution and workstation management Local IT environment in Mikkeli is managed in co-operation with Aalto IT Currently used at Mikkeli campus Software: Operating system: MS Windows 7 MS Office 2013 Pro + Project + Visio, MS IE, Mozilla Firefox, Symantec Endpoint Protection + a wide variety of other software offered through Aalto University campus licences Network drives: Z:-drive is your personal home drive and it is connected for you when you log on - Disk quota for students is 5 GB M:-drive is a common drive for classes for sharing course material. Folder structure is based on course names and an own folder for each course is created by IT Support. - Faculty members have modify rights to M:-drive, students have read rights Printing: Service provider is Unigrafia ( a joint company owned by University of Helsinki and Aalto University) Printing points are located in the Aquarium and on the 3rd floor corridor Printouts can be released with a printing card from both printers
Aalto user account and email Every student of the Aalto University gets an Aalto account with a password, and an aalto.fi e mail address. The username and a password are for your private use only; Aalto username and password must not be used in external services (such as Facebook, gmail, webshops, and so on). Your current password expires after 180 days (six months). Use your Aalto user account to log on to IT services offered by Aalto University, e.g. : - Aalto workstations on every university campus (Mikkeli, Töölö, Otaniemi, Arabia) - Aalto email at http://mail.aalto.fi - Web-based services offered by Aalto University (moodle.aalto.fi, survey.aalto.fi, gdrive.aalto.fi etc.) - Some services use Haka federation for user authentication Haka federation is a joint user authentication venture by the Finnish higher education institutions. Haka is open for all Finnish higher education institutions.
Aalto user account By accepting your Aalto user account you commit to comply with the Aalto University IT policies and guidelines. After this introduction there will be an account pick-up on the 1 st floor lobby. Note! The font used in the account form is Courier. Number one (1) looks very similar to lower case letter l ( 1 vs l ) Check this if you have problems with password. You will also get a printing card, which you ll have to return after your studies. You can also activate your student card (Lyyra card) as a printing card.
Aalto user account Password requirements Minimum password length: 10 characters Password must meet complexity requirements - Not contain all or part of the user's account name - Be at least ten characters in length - Contain characters from three of the following four categories: o English uppercase characters (A through Z) o English lowercase characters (a through z) o Base 10 digits (0 through 9) o Non-alphabetic characters (for example,!, $, #, %) Password help - https://inside.aalto.fi/display/itservices/password+guidelines
Workstation policies Domain: AALTO (default) User name: your own Aalto user account name After 15 minutes inactivity time you can be forced to log off by other users and no data will be saved! REMEMBER TO LOG OFF! DO NOT SHUTDOWN!
Aalto email http://mail.aalto.fi Log in with your Aalto user account (or email address) and choose the language you want to use (preferred is English) NOTE! Information on your studies will be sent to your Aalto email address! Read your email frequently and respond if needed!
into.aalto.fi For Aalto students Into is a portal for Aalto University students into information relating to studies, to Aalto services and to the students own university. The website also collects the news and events of Aalto University for Bachelor and Master s students and for doctoral candidates.
