The responsibilities of an Orientation Leader are quite varied and we want to be sure that our expectations are clear before you make your decision to apply for this position. Also, by knowing the demands for the job, you will be better prepared to interact and contribute during the selection process. The Orientation Leader (OL) position is highly respected at Florida A&M University (FAMU). These carefully selected students will have the primary responsibility of helping first-year students make a smooth transition into FAMU by serving as resources and role models for the newest members of our Rattler community. OLs assist with the summer Orientation sessions, Fall & Spring Preview, Move-In Weekend as well as some activities during Week of Welcome. Due to the high level of involvement and interaction with fellow student staff, faculty, administrators, family members and new students, the Orientation Leader experience is truly one that produces dynamic, confident and capable student leaders. Orientation Leaders are provided wit tremendous support and training to successfully execute the duties of the office, and to effectively set and meet personal and professional goals outside of orientation. Ease the enrollment process for new students by providing guidance throughout the advisement and registration process. Enhance retention efforts by serving as a highly respected resource and mentor to new students. Model integrity and personal responsibility.
Duties & Responsibilities The duties and responsibilities of an orientation leader are as follows: Orientation Leaders will assist in the implementation of specific programs for summer orientation and work with students and parents on a rotating basis throughout the summer. Orientation Leaders will work individually and collectively to help each other perfect skills in program presentations, facilitating small group discussions, performing skit lines, and to increase each other s knowledge of the University s goals, academic and social programs, personnel resources, and facilities. Orientation Leaders will assist with administrative tasks during orientation as delegated by the office staff. These tasks will include but are not limited to: assisting with check-in, placing and collecting direction signs, distributing and collecting participant evaluations, assisting and conducting program presentations, placing labels on materials and assembling nametags, running errands, moving tables and chairs, etc. Assist academic advisors and help facilitate the registration process for incoming students. Give campus tours to students and family members. Lead group discussions on registration procedures, campus life and issues in student life. Participate in staff meetings, in- service training, and work days as scheduled. Complete additional administrative and program duties as assigned. Compensation & Benefits Compensation: The rate of pay for each Orientation Leader is between $7.75 and $8.00 per hour. Orientation Leaders cannot work more than 80 hours per pay period. Room & Board from June 1, 2012 July 31, 2012. Meals will be provided during orientation sessions and some meals during Intensive training. Orientation Leader Staff uniforms The EXPERIENCE Application Process Step One: Application Interested candidates should complete the application form (attach passport photo) and submit to the Office of New Student Orientation no later than 5:00p.m. Tuesday, October 25, 2011. Step Two: Group Interview - Each applicant MUST attend one (1) Group Interview, which will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 from 3:00p.m. 5:00p.m or 7:00p.m. 9:00p.m in the H. Manning Efferson Student Union Grand Ballroom Step Three: Individual Interviews Upon the completion on the group interview all applicants will receive notification by Friday, November 4, 2011 that will inform them of their potential progression to the next round of interviews to be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 thru Thursday, November 10, 2011.
