Completed application form (must be typed into the online form then printed handwritten applications will not be considered). 2. Letter of Recommendation Form(s) attesting to the quality of the applicant's academic performance and promise as an educator, as specified. Forms are provided with the online application, and should be printed and sent to chosen evaluators to complete and return to the Chair of the Scholarship Committee of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Horrabin Hall 40, Western Illinois University, 1 University Circle, Macomb, IL 61455. 3. Current transcript. Applications are due on or before APRIL 1, except where noted, and should be mailed to: Chair of the Scholarship Committee, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Horrabin Hall 40, Western Illinois University, 1 University Circle, Macomb, IL 61455. SELECTION: The recipients will be selected by the Scholarship Committee with its recommendations provided to the Chairperson of the Department. Recipients will be announced in the spring and awarded at the WIU Foundation Scholars' Recognition Ceremony in the fall. Must demonstrate financial need and be an entering freshman intent to major in Elementary Education. ACT score of 26 (or equivalent score of like test) and in the upper 15% of graduating class. Preference given to graduate of a Hancock or Fulton County high school. Special consideration given to students who have indicated an interest in and/or strong performance in science. Ethel Ray Scholarship. Up to $850. Must be an entering freshman with an Elementary Education major. ACT score of 25 and in upper 25% of graduating class. updated 2.9.2016 Page 1

Oliver and Mary Troyer Scholarship. Up to $500. Must demonstrate financial need and be a freshman with an Elementary Education major. ACT score of 25 and a high school GPA of 3.0. Maxine L. Robinson Scholarship. Up to $450. Must demonstrate financial need and be an incoming freshman or transfer student majoring in Elementary Education. If a freshman, must have an ACT score of 23, be in upper 25% of graduating class, and be a resident of one of the 27 west-central Illinois counties served by WIU*. If a transfer student, must have a minimum of 30 semester hours with a GPA of 3.25 and be from any college or university. Must show evidence of involvement in high school and community activities. Opal Wedeberg Scholarship. Up to $275. Must demonstrate financial need and be an incoming freshman or transfer student majoring in Elementary Education. Must be a resident of one of the 27 west-central Illinois counties served by WIU*, and show involvement in high school and community activities. If a freshman, must have an ACT score of 23, be in upper 25% of class. If transfer student, must have a minimum of 30 semester hours with a GPA of 3.25. *27 West-Central Illinois Counties served by WIU: Adams, Brown, Calhoun, Cass, Fulton, Greene, Hancock, Henderson, Henry, Jersey, Knox, Logan, Macoupin, Mason, McDonough, Menard, Mercer, Morgan, Peoria, Pike, Rock Island, Sangamon, Schuyler, Scott, Stark, Tazewell and Warren. Freshmen, Transfer and Currently Enrolled Students Mary L. Hinman Memorial Scholarship. $3,000. Must be a currently enrolled or transfer student and a sophomore, junior or senior majoring in Elementary Education. GPA 3.0. Helen L. Buckley Scholarship. Up to $1,000. Must be a freshman or sophomore majoring in Elementary Education with either an Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education option. Preference will be given to Bureau County residents. Must be in top 10% of graduating class and have a GPA of 3.6. Jessie Ferne Routh Grice Scholarship. Up to $500. Must be an incoming freshman, an incoming transfer student, or a currently enrolled freshman, sophomore, junior or senior. Must plan to teach at elementary level. If a freshman, must have an ACT score of 25 and be in the upper 25% of graduating class. If a transfer or currently enrolled student, must have GPA of 3.0. Leanne L. Grice Porch Scholarship. Up to $500. Must be an incoming freshman or transfer student, or a currently enrolled freshman, sophomore, junior or senior. Must plan to teach at the elementary level. Home schooled students are especially encouraged to apply. Must plan to teach at the elementary level. If a freshman, must have an ACT score of 25 and be in the upper 25% of graduating class. Carol J. Grice Major Scholarship. Up to $550. Must be an incoming freshman, an incoming transfer student, or a currently enrolled freshman, sophomore, junior or senior. Must plan to teach at the elementary level. Applicants whose education was interrupted and are now returning to complete degree requirements are especially encouraged to apply. If a freshman, must have an ACT score of 25 and be in the upper 25% of graduating class. If a transfer or currently enrolled student, must have a GPA of 3.0. Wrenn R. and Evelyn Grice Scholarship. $1,200. Deadline to apply April 15. Must be an incoming freshman or a currently enrolled freshman, sophomore, junior or senior. Must be a resident of Fulton or Knox Counties and plan to teach at the elementary or secondary level. If a freshman, must have an ACT score of 25 and be in upper 25% of class. If a current student must have a GPA of 3.0. Currently Enrolled Students Nancy A. Brown Scholarship. $2,000 per year. Preference is given to applicants with a documented history of community service. Must be Elementary Education major and have completed 60 hours by the end of the spring semester. GPA of 3.0. Anna Marie Gruber Scholarship. Up to $4,500. Must demonstrate potential as a teacher and demonstrate financial need. Must be a currently enrolled junior or senior in Elementary Education and have at least two semesters left before graduation. GPA of 3.0. Ida Blanch Bruner/Verlin K. Johnson Scholarship. $450 per year. Must be an Elementary Education major with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education, and provide evidence of demonstrated dependability, leadership, and service. Must be a full-time student during the scholarship period, be a junior, and have completed one full year at WIU. GPA of 2.8. John and Ivabell Means Scholarship. $1,000 per year. Must be an Elementary Education major and have completed 60 hours by the end of the spring semester. GPA of 3.5. Katherine T. Thompson Scholarship. $1,500 per year. Must demonstrate potential as a teacher and demonstrate financial need. Must be a currently enrolled junior or senior Elementary Education major. GPA of 3.0. Thomas G. Oakson Memorial Scholarship. $1,400 per year. Must be from Lake or Macon Counties in Illinois. Must be a sophomore, junior or senior Elementary Education major. Albert & Dorothy Burgard Scholarship. $1,000. Must be an Elementary Education major and have been accepted into the Teacher Education Program (TEP). Preference will be given to Hancock or McDonough County residents. GPA of 2.75. Ralph and Gladys Anderson Scholarship for Elementary Education. Up to $6,000. Must be an Elementary Education major and have completed 60 hours by the end of the spring semester. GPA of 3.0. Ralph and Gladys Anderson Scholarship for African Americans. Up to $6,000. Must be an African American Elementary Education major and have completed 60 hours by the end of the spring semester. GPA of 3.0. Ralph and Gladys Anderson Scholarship for Mercer County High School Student. Up to $6,000. Must be a graduate of Mercer County High School and an Elementary Education major and have completed 60 hours by the end of the spring semester. GPA of 3.0. Ralph and Gladys Anderson Scholarship for Rock Island High School Student. Up to $6,000. Must be a graduate of Rock Island High School, or a high school nearby, and an Elementary Education major, and have completed 60 hours by the end of the spring semester. GPA of 3.0. Ralph and Gladys Anderson Scholarship for Sherrard High School Student. Up to $6,000. Must be graduate of Sherrard High School, or a high school nearby, and a junior Elementary Education or Special Education major. Preference given first to an African American student, second to a minority student, third to a graduate of Sherrard High School, and fourth to a graduate of a nearby high school. GPA of 3.0. Special Education Majors Chown/Himmel Special Education Scholarship. Up to $800. Must be full-time junior or senior Special Education major and have been accepted into the Teacher Education Program (TEP). Should document a high degree of involvement in activities that support individuals with special needs. GPA of 3.0 overall and 3.5 in major. Nicholas Joseph DiGrino Memorial Scholarship. $2,000. Must be a Special Education major and have been accepted into the Teacher Education Program (TEP). Must demonstrate community and/or university service and commitment to children with disabilities. GPA of 2.75. Patricia A. Wood Memorial Scholarship. Up to $750. Deadline to apply December 10 and May 10. Must be a Special Education major in their student teaching semester. Scottie and Dr. Carl Fenn Scholarship. Up to $1,100. Must be a junior or senior majoring in Special Education and accepted into the Teacher Education Program (TEP). The applicant should document a high degree of involvement in activities that support individuals with special needs. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 and GPA of 3.5 in major. Noah Eckman Memorial Scholarship in Honor of Denita Rose. $1,000 per year. Must be a senior Special Education major taking at least 6 semester hours. GPA of 3.0. Illinois Elks Special Education Scholarship $2500 to $3000 per year. Must be a junior, senior or graduate student majoring in Special Education with a B average or above. Must demonstrate need. Must be a graduate student in the Teacher Education Program (TEP) and have completed 12 semester hours of graduate education. GPA of 3.5. M. Lynne Brown Memorial Scholarship. $1,450. Deadline to apply March 20. Must be an Elementary Education Master's Degree candidate with a specialization in Early Childhood, and must have completed at least 15 semester hours at WIU. GPA of 3.0. Wilson & Winifred Stone Scholarship. $400. Must be a graduate student pursuing a Master s Degree in Reading and have completed 15 semester hours of graduate coursework at WIU. If no eligible applicant in Reading, graduate students in Special Education may apply. Other Available Alpha Delta Kappa Alpha Chi Chapter Scholarship. Up to $1,000. Must be a female junior or senior, preferably from Fulton County, who is majoring in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, Bilingual Education or Reading. GPA of 3.0. Hancock County Retired Teachers Scholarship. $500. Deadline to apply April 23. Must be a graduate of a Hancock County high school and a sophomore, junior or senior accepted into a teacher certification program. GPA of 3.0. Illinois Retired Teachers Association Scholarship. $1,500. Deadline to apply March 7. Must be endorsed by an IRTA member or be a descendant of an IRTA member, and a junior or senior accepted into a teacher certification program. GPA of 3.0. updated 2.9.2016 Page 5

McDonough County Retired Teachers Scholarship $1000 per year. Deadline to apply March 31. Must be a graduate of a McDonough County high school and be accepted into the Teacher Education Program. GPA of 3.0. Essay required. Dr. Pamela Godt Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education Scholarship. $500. Deadline to apply March 20. Must be a junior, senior or graduate student and an active member of KDP's Alpha Epsilon chapter at WIU. Must be pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education, Reading, Bilingual/Bicultural Education or any other education major. GPA of 3.6. Abilities Plus Jean German Scholarship Two $500 awards. Deadline to apply March 18. Must be from Henry, Stark or western Bureau Counties and be pursuing a career working with individuals with disabilities or developmental delays.
