2 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS The University of Memphis selectively awards academic scholarships to entering first time freshmen. All scholarships are awarded for the academic year (Fall and Spring semesters only). Scholarships are awarded using information submitted in support of the application. For priority consideration, freshmen students should be admitted by December 1. Scholarship awards after December 1 are contingent upon the availability of funds. A separate scholarship application is required for our Emerging Leaders Scholarship, Memphis Advantage, Valedictorian, and First Scholars Program. Students are strongly encouraged to apply for admission early to receive maximum consideration for scholarships. Scholarship awards are determined using a combination of your cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) and the ACT Composite/SAT (CR+M ONLY) score. These scholarships are fouryear, renewable scholarships requiring full-time enrollment and earning at least 24 hours by the end of each spring term with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 during the freshman year and 3.0 the following years. Students are encouraged to complete at least 15 hours per term to graduate within four years. Students must complete required service hours to renew an academic scholarship. An eligible Tennessee resident may accept only one scholarship in addition to offers from the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation Program, with the exception of the Valedictorian Scholarship. Non-Resident students may only accept one of the merit scholarships listed. If a student exceeds their financial aid budget, as set by the Financial Aid Office, scholarship awards will be reduced as required by law.
3 ACADEMIC MERIT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS CECIL C. HUMPHREYS MERIT SCHOLARSHIP The Cecil C. Humphreys Merit Scholarship is awarded to all National Merit/National Achievement finalists listing the University of Memphis as their first choice with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation by the required deadline. This prestigious award is $9,700 per year plus the following benefits: Laptop computer Study Abroad or National Student Exchange Stipend of $2,000 Assistance available for attendance at a National Conference on Undergraduate Research Priority consideration for the Non-Resident Honors Student Award (NRHSA) On-campus Housing Grant $5,000 The Non-Resident Honors Student Award (NRHSA) is offered by the University of Memphis Helen Hardin Honors Program. Under authorization from the Tennessee Board of Regents, the University of Memphis Helen Hardin Honors Program offers thirty Non-Resident Honors Student Awards on a competitive basis each year. The award enables non-resident students to attend the University of Memphis while paying tuition and fees equivalent to those of Tennessee residents. The NRHSA requires a separate application and acceptance into the Helen Hardin Honors Program. The University of Memphis Helen Hardin Honors Program application is available at memphis.edu/honors. CECIL C. HUMPHREYS PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Cecil C. Humphreys Presidential Scholarship is awarded to students with a minimum 30 ACT/1330 SAT and a 3.5 or higher cumulative high school grade point average. The Cecil C. Humphreys Presidential Scholarship is a $6,000 per year award. THE PROVOST SCHOLARSHIP The Provost Scholarship is awarded to students with a minimum 28 ACT/1250 SAT and a 3.25 or higher cumulative high school grade point average. The Provost Scholarship is awarded to a limited number of students each year. The Provost Scholarship is a $4,000 per year award. THE DEAN S SCHOLARSHIP The Dean s Scholarship is awarded to students with a minimum 25 ACT/1130 SAT and a 3.00 or higher cumulative high school grade point average. The Dean s Scholarship is awarded to a limited number of students each year. The Dean s Scholarship is a $3,000 per year award. THE VALEDICTORIAN SCHOLARSHIP The Valedictorian Scholarship provides funding to top scholars from each of Tennessee s accredited or state approved high schools and from the following MSA counties: Crittenden, Arkansas; Desoto, Mississippi; Marshall, Mississippi; Tate, Mississippi; and Tunica, Mississippi. The recipient must rank number one in the class and meet the admission requirements of the University of Memphis. The Valedictorian Scholarship is a $1,000 per year award and is stackable with any additional Academic Scholarship. Online application available via Tiger Scholarship Manger at: memphis.edu/scholarships MEMPHIS ADVANTAGE SCHOLARSHIP The University of Memphis Advantage Scholarship is designed to ensure the university meets its goal of having a diverse student body. This award is competitive and it is awarded to a limited number of students who have filed the FAFSA by February 1. The Memphis Advantage Scholarship is a $4,000 per year award. Criteria for this award are subject to change to address the University s enrollment goals. A student must be a graduating high school senior, a TN resident, have a minimum 20 ACT/940 SAT and a 3.0 or higher cumulative high school grade point average, and have a family adjusted gross income of $80,000 or less as indicated on the FAFSA. Completion of all financial aid documents are required for students selected to receive this scholarship. Students must also meet at least one of the following criteria: be part of an underrepresented ethnic population, be a first generation college student as indicated on the FAFSA, or be a resident of one the following rural West TN counties: Benton, Carroll, Chester, Crockett, Decatur, Dyer, Fayette, Gibson, Hardeman, Hardin, Haywood, Henderson, Henry, Lake, Lauderdale, Madison, McNairy, Obion, Tipton or Weakly. Students must continue to meet the family adjusted gross income criteria to be eligible for renewal each year. The deadline for the Memphis Advantage Scholarship application is February 1. The Emerging Leaders Scholarship is awarded to students with a minimum 21 ACT/980 SAT and a 3.0 or higher cumulative high school grade point average. The scholarship is awarded to a limited number of students each year. The Emerging Leaders Scholarship is a $5,500 per year award. The deadline for The Emerging Leaders Scholarship application is February 1. For renewal of this scholarship, recipients must maintain a 2.75 cumulative grade point average after the first year and a 3.0 each year thereafter. On campus housing is required during the freshman year for students who are selected to receive this scholarship. The Emerging Leaders Scholarship is only available to students attending the Memphis campus. The program is open to incoming freshmen whose parents did not graduate from college. The program requires a separate application available online and must be completed by February 1. First Scholars are selected based on eligibility criteria. On campus housing is required during the freshman year for students who are selected to receive this scholarship. The First Scholars program is only available to students attending the Memphis campus.
6 TRANSFER STUDENTS The University of Memphis selectively awards academic scholarships to entering first time transfer students. All scholarships are awarded for the academic year (Fall and Spring semesters only). Scholarships are awarded using information submitted in support of the University of Memphis admissions application. For priority consideration, transfer students should be admitted and submit a completed scholarship application to the University of Memphis by April 1 for fall awards or December 1 for spring awards. Scholarship awards after April 1 or December 1 are contingent upon the availability of funds. These scholarships are renewable scholarships requiring full-time enrollment and earning at least 24 hours by the end of each spring term with a cumulative GPA of 3.0. 7 TRANSFER STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS THE UNIVERSITY TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIP: $3,000 per year The University Transfer Scholarship is awarded to students who desire to transfer to the University of Memphis from another four-year institution within the first two years of their high school graduation. The University Transfer Scholarship requires a minimum 25 ACT/1130 SAT, a 3.0 or higher cumulative high school grade point average, and a 3.0 or higher transfer college grade point average. This scholarship is competitive and is awarded to a limited number of students. The University Transfer Scholarship is a $1,500 per semester award, and the application is available online at memphis.edu/scholarships. Students should be admitted to the University of Memphis and submit a completed University Transfer Scholarship application by April 1 for fall awards or December 1 for spring awards. THE UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS COMMUNITY COLLEGE TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIP: $3,000 per year The Community College Transfer Scholarship is awarded to transfer students who are graduating from a Tennessee community college and have a minimum 3.25 cumulative transfer grade point average. The Community College Transfer Scholarship is a $1,500 per semester award, and is renewable for four semesters. The application is available online at memphis.edu/scholarships. Students should be admitted to the University of Memphis and submit a completed Community College Transfer Scholarship application by April 1 for fall awards or December 1 for spring awards. Final transcripts with proof of degree earned are required for students selected to receive this scholarship. THE UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS PHI THETA KAPPA SCHOLARSHIP: $1,000 per year The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is awarded to transfer students who have earned a two-year degree from a community college and can present a copy of their Phi Theta Kappa membership card or certificate. The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is a $500 per semester award and is renewable for four semesters. The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship application is available online at memphis.edu/scholarships. If you are a member of the Phi Theta Kappa All Tennessee Academic Team, you are guaranteed to receive the University of Memphis Community College Transfer Scholarship in lieu of the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship. Students should be admitted to the University of Memphis and submit a completed Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship application by April 1 for fall awards or December 1 for spring awards. Final transcripts with proof of degree earned are required for students selected to receive this scholarship.
8 The Adult Scholarship applicants must apply for admission to the University of Memphis and be admitted as a degree seeking undergraduate student by March 1. A separate scholarship application is required for The Adult Scholarship and is available online at THE ADULT SCHOLARSHIP: The Adult Scholarship Program is designed to help new and continuing adult students reach their educational goals. This highly competitive, renewable scholarship is $5,500 per year for full-time students (prorated at part-time status) and is awarded annually to a limited number of students. To be eligible, adult students must be pursuing their first undergraduate degree and reach their 25th birthday by August 1st of the application year. Current students must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average to be eligible. New students must meet the admission requirements to be considered. TENNESSEE STUDENT ASSISTANCE CORPORATE PROGRAMS (TSAC) Students eligible for the State of Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation Program Scholarships should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). For more details regarding the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation Program Scholarships, please visit tn.gov/collegepays/. TSAC requires ACT/SAT exams to be taken prior to the first day of college enrollment.note: Students should consider the cost of housing, meals, and transportation when establishing an overall budget for the academic year. If you are a resident of Crittenden County, Arkansas, or DeSoto, Marshall, Tate or Tunica counties in Mississippi, you may be eligible for in-state tuition. For details, visit memphis.edu/admissions/border or call TIGER SCHOLARSHIP MANAGER Students are encouraged to apply for private and departmental scholarship through the Tiger Scholarship Manager. Tiger Scholarship Manager provides a centralized, searchable database of all scholarship opportunities. The Tiger Scholarship Manager application is available online at memphis.edu/scholarships. FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA) To apply for financial aid, you must file your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as possible after January 1. To receive priority consideration, students should submit the FAFSA by our March 1 priority deadline. Application online at fafsa.gov. The FAFSA is used to apply for the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation Program Scholarships. For information about this scholarship, visit tn.gov/collegepays/. Eligibility will be checked at the end of the spring semester. All scholarship awards are subject to reduction based on state appropriation of scholarship funding. Any award made after the December 1 priority consideration date is dependent upon the availability of funds.
