Emergency Voice Communication Systems EVCS Network 8 Data Sheet The Emergency Voice Communications System (EVCS) Network 8 is for use as a Fire Telephone system, Disabled Refuge Call system or as a combined system when both Fire Telephones and Disabled Refuge Points are required. Features Fully monitored stand alone system Complies with BS5839 Part 9 Fully addressable Duplex two way communication System flexibility Multiple line conversations Up to 8 master handsets Up to 256 outstations In addition to Type A and Type B Outstation can also monitor Emergency Assist Alarms (using a 2 core radial) Designed to comply with BS5839 Part 9 2003 the EVCS is a fixed, secure, bi-directional fully-duplex voice communication system, to assist fire fighters within high rise buildings or large sites where radio communication may not be possible. Where both a fire telephone and disabled refuge system are fitted to a building BS 5839 Part 9 specifies these should form a single system. The EVCS consists of three main components; the master handset (EVCS-MS), the exchanges units (EVCS-XC), and outstations (type A or type B as appropriate). Control of EVCS is simplicity itself, the master handset has a clear, four line backlit display which shows the calling outstation name in plain text. Calls can be made to outstations by either dialling the number of the unit, or choosing the name from a text dialling directory, with conference calling possible. Each Exchange unit connects to a data highway and is locally powered, with internal battery backup from a monitored, maintained sealed lead acid battery. Up to eight lines can be connected to each distributed exchange, and each line can have up to four phones (BS5839 Part 9 recommends one phone per line, however this facility is required in some retro fits). Two types of user outstation are available as described in BS5839 Part 9, Type A uses handsets, either flush or surface mounting. Type B outstations are hands free units with echo cancellation and noise reduction. All EVCS handsets have a T coil for hearing aid users. Installation Master Handsets and exchange units are connected on a single data highway consisting of 2 x 4 core fire rated cables. Up to 8 Master Handsets and 32 exchanges may be connected to this highway. Master Handsets may be desk or wall mounted and has a 19 rack mounting option. Exchange units are supplied in a mild steel enclosure suitable for wall mounting. Each Exchange unit has 8 outstation lines for connection of Type A (telephone), Type B (hands free) stations or Emergancy Assist Alarm systems. These are connected to the Exchange unit with a 2 core fire rated cable with field wiring when an outstation is connected. This document is not intended to be used for installation purposes. EVCS Network 8 Master Handset - EVCS-MS EVCS Network 8 is a system for larger Disabled Refuge and Emergency telephone installations. Its distributed loop architecture provides a competitive system from 8 to 256 communication points as well as multiple control locations. Control of the EVCS is simplicity itself. The Network 8 System Master Handset allows swift identification of outstations via its on-board directory and clear backlit display. The master console has a clear four line backlit display which shows the calling outstation name in plain text, and calls can be made to outstations by either dialling the number of the unit, or choosing the name from a text dialling directory. The EVCS Network 8 system also enables Notifier Emergency Assist Alarm systems to be connected directly. EVCS Network 8 Exchange Unit - EVCS-XC The Network Exchange Unit delivers an efficient solution for larger EVCS sites. Providing a power supply for System Master Handsets, its distributed loop based architecture provides a competitive scalable system for up to 256 communication points. Each Exchange unit sits on a data highway and is locally powered, with internal battery backup from a monitored, maintained sealed lead acid battery. Up to eight lines can be connected to each distributed exchange, and each line is fully monitored for Open, Short or Earth faults. The network comprises a line or ring of 8 cores (see below), each leg can be up-to 500M depending on cable type. A ring topology is recommended by 5839 pt9. Line cables consist of a single two core enhanced cable, either soft skin types or MICC and only 1mm CSA is required. Up to thirty-two Network 8 Exchanges can be fitted to a the system giving a maximum system size of 256 independent lines. Type A Outstation - EVCS-HSP, EVCS-HSL & EVCS-HFP The EVCS Type A outstation is designed to fully comply with BS5839-Part 9:2003 for use as a Fire Telephone system, Disabled Refuge Call system or as a combined system when both Fire Telephones and Disabled Refuge Points are required. The Type A outstation is a monitored phone handset providing full duplex speech capability. The unit is available as a surface mounting or flush mounting unit cased in a metal wall mounting enclosure. The EVCS type A Outstation is a slick compact unit which offers easy access via a magnetic push catch door and a unique front levelling system allowing the back box to be mounted at a slight angle whilst still retaining a true front face and door. Compatible with all EVC systems for use as a standard Fire Telephone or Disabled Refuge call point. Type B Outstation - EVCS-HSBG, EVCS-HSB, EVCS-HSFSS The EVCS Type B outstation is designed to fully comply with BS5839-Part 9:2003 for use as a Fire Telephone system, Disabled Refuge Call system or as a combined system when both Fire Telephones and Disabled Refuge Points are required. The Type B outstation is a fixed, monitored and maintained, bi-directional, full duplex voice communication system to assist the orderly evacuation of disabled or mobility impaired people and enhance fire fighters communication during emergencies. Please note: When choosing the outstation type for use with an EVCS we recommend reading Section 11 of BS5839-9:2003 which deals with outstation types. Type B outstations can only be used where the background noise is below 40dBA (therefore there can be no sounder or voice alarm coverage in the area). Type B Outstation Construction Colour Mounting The Unit 133 mm 133 mm 45 mm 1.1Kg Zintec powder coated Green, Red or Stainless Steel All Type B Outstations should be mounted at a height of either 1200mm from the floor, or on a 1400mm centre line to comply with the requirements of Building Regulations Document M (access for the disabled). The back box has 4 indented feet to allow mounting on uneven walls. Type B Outstations can be flush mounted by cutting a hole 133mm x 133mm and 45mm deep, and using the stainless steel bezel to finish the surround. Fully monitored connections.
