The academic session in IIT Bhilai will commence from August 2016. As the mentor institute, IIT Hyderabad will facilitate the functioning of IIT Bhilai. To begin with, B.Tech. program in three branches will be offered, viz. Computer Science and, Electrical and Mechanical with 40 students in each branch. Permanent Campus The permanent campus is adjacent to one of the largest steel plant of India Bhilai Steel Plant. IIT Bhilai Campus will be constructed at Kutelabhatha village, District Durg. This campus is about 7 km from the Durg Junction railway station and about 62 km from the Raipur Airport. In addition, an Extension Center has been planned at Naya Raipur. Temporary Campus Until the infrastructure of IIT Bhilai permanent campus is ready; the institute will start and function temporarily at the campus of Government College (GEC), Raipur. Each of these departments will have intake of 40 students, i.e. total 120 students will be admitted to IIT Bhilai in the coming session, July 2016, through JEE 2016 Advance. The B.Tech. program consists of eight semesters spread over four years. An Academic Year (July-April) consists of 2 semesters, each of approximately 16 weeks duration. The first semester begins in the last week of July / first week of August and ends by the last week of November. The second semester starts in the first week of January and ends by the first week of May. A student is required to register the relevant courses listed in the curriculum for that semester. Rules for Change of Branch B.Tech students are eligible to apply for change of branch after completing first semester. Branch Change guidelines: Branch change is effected at the end of the first semester The branch change option is given based on the grade point average at the end of the first semester of all those who seek branch change In case of a tie, the person with a better JEE (Adv.) rank will be given allotment Each dept. can take 10% of new students from branch change. Not more than 20% students can move to another department under branch change Once the allotment is made, there is no possibility of a further change either to a new branch or to the original branch.
Faculty IIT Hyderabad Faculty members will take the responsibility of conducting classes and laboratory work. At present, there are over 165 faculty members at IIT Hyderabad. There will be a Faculty Advisor in each Department for every batch of the program, who provides academic support and advise to the students on all academic matters. Facilities Students will be provided all the necessary infrastructure facilities, like library, computing, networking, workshops, teaching laboratories and research laboratories. IIT Bhilai will be a residential campus, with well facilitated students hostels. All hostels will be equipped with extra activities, sport, recreation rooms, TV room, washing machines, and dining etc. Hostels will be equipped with Wi-Fi access. The institute has a good sports ground. Students can involve in numerous sports to enable them maintain their physical fitness and develop team spirit. Girls Hostel: Girls hostel of about 40 capacity is available in the institute campus. Boys Hostel: Boys hostel of about 120 capacity is available in the institute campus. Computer Science and SCOPE AND DESCRIPTION OF COURSES The 4-year B. Tech. program in the dept. of CSE is concerned with theoretical and practical aspects of computing. The foundations of computing include algorithms and their analyses, data structures and their uses in software, theory of automata, formal languages and computation. The engineering aspects include various topics in systems such as architectures of computers, programming languages, compiler design, operating systems, design of databases, computer networks and application software. The program includes a choice of advanced elective courses in each of the above topics, as well as in areas such as machine learning, computer vision, big-data analytics, wireless networks and mobile computing. The program also has a provision to credit courses from other disciplines of science, engineering, and humanities. The eight semester curriculum comprises of core courses, department elective courses, free electives, seminars, experiments in laboratory, projects and humanities courses. The program offers flexibility so that the students can undertake various elective courses that provide exposure in various disciplines of EE such as Communications and Signal Processing, Microelectronics and VLSI design, Power Electronics and Power System, Control System and Embedded Systems. Founded on classical subjects like Mechanics, Dynamics, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Solid Mechanics and Strength of Materials, the field gives entry into the design, analysis and manufacturing of automobiles, aircraft, locomotives, ships, power-plants, and also inter-disciplinary areas like energy and environment, earth and planetary sciences, nuclear, fusion, solar, wind and alternate energy.
