Dean s Nursing Policy Coalition
Deans Nursing Policy Coalition The Coalition members concluded that, as leaders of Schools of Nursing, it was incumbent on them to promote advanced practice nursing and to speak with a credible and effective voice on the issues of particular concern to their institutions and students.
The Coalition Supports: more funding for education, including simple expansion of capacity; modernization of degree programs and curricula; resolving issues with nurse-led clinics and other teaching venues, such as barriers to full participation in Medicare and Medicaid; implementing information technology and EHRs for clinical care and population health that include a nursing/primary care perspective; and maintaining a proactive posture in federal health policy development and implementation in order to promote effective changes and best practices.
Nursing School Contributions: Nursing schools make several important contributions to the discussion that can benefit the health care profession as a whole, including: thought leadership based on real-world experience in the education, research and clinical settings; a growing evidence base, particularly with regard to quality and best practices; and credibility as leaders of top schools of nursing.
