SIEMENS MOBILE PHONE MANAGER The Mobile Phone Manager is a software package whose programmes can be used on your PC in connection with a mobile phone. The software runs on all PCs with the operating systems Windows 9x and ME, Windows 2000 as well as Windows XP (with the most recent Service Pack) and also supports IrDA (infrared connection), Bluetooth Standard, USB connections (1.0-2.0) and serial data cables. Using the Mobile Phone Manager, you will have the appropriate tools at hand to administer the data, addresses and contacts in your phone or to create and send SMS, EMS and MMS. All individual programmes of the Manager start in a separate window and will be called up from a main window, the Launch Bar. The Mobile Phone Manager will display only those programme modules that are explicitly supported by the mobile phone connected. 4

THE INDIVIDUAL PROGRAMMES OF THE MOBILE PHONE MANAGER Contact Manager The Contact Manager offers convenient administration of phone directory entries and contacts on your mobile phone. Existing entries can be edited or deleted and new entries added. You can also store your contacts on your computer. In addition, you can send messages directly to specified contacts. Messages (SMS, EMS and MMS) This tool offers easy reading and sending of your SMS, EMS and MMS from the PC. You can save texts as templates for future short messages, as well as your own recipient lists. This module provides a convenient interaction with your PC (Export, Import, Print, Drag&Drop). BlackBerry Built-In With this icon you can start the BlackBerry Built-In function of the Mobile Phone Manager: the BlackBerry Built-In for Siemens SK65 Desktop Manager. Notes: The can only establish a connection to a SK65 when the BlackBerry Software has been started on the SK65. Before trying to connect, the BlackBerry symbol has to be displayed on the SK65 screen. The user must connect the SK65 Enterprise to the PC before he can use it. When the SK65 is plugged in for the first time, the BlackBerry Desktop Manager needs to provide the SK65, i.e. generating/loading encryption keys and service books, associating PIN to E-mail address, etc. After provisioning, the BlackBerry Built-In Desktop Manager bulk loads calendar events in Microsoft Outlook/Lotus Notes on the SK65. After the initial bulk download the calendar is working fully wirelessly. Backup/Restore The Backup/Restore function of the Mobile Phone Manager is a useful tool for rapidly and reliably backing up the data on your mobile phone to your PC or notebook. This tool is also excellent for restoring data, should you lose your mobile phone and buy another one of the same model. This way you can be sure of having the same files as before. Backup of the data on your mobile happens quite automatically - you simply need to specify the folders on your mobile that you want to back up. Certainly you can do several backups, e.g., a complete backup every week. With the "Restore" function, your previously backed up data will be copied back to your mobile phone. Select the folders you want copied back. If you have created several backups, you can choose the version you want from a list. 5

SmartSync (data synchronisation) This tool offers to match the data stored on your PC or notebook with the one on your mobile, e.g., appointments, contacts etc. administered through Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes. The synchronisation software is designed to work on a Windows PC to synchronise data between two data sources, such as a PIM (Personal Information Manager) and a mobile device. It is comprised of a synchronisation engine and translators, which are used to integrate seamlessly with the data source s features and data. Data Types: Contacts Contacts are used to keep track of people and their details. Also called an Address Book, Contacts contain many pieces of key information about people: their names, addresses, phone numbers, etc. Calendar A Calendar is used to keep track of appointments. Any meeting, phone conference, or reminder can be entered into the Calendar so that it is instantly viewed for any given date or time. If a SK65 Enterprise is used, this option will not appear in SmartSync. The BlackBerry calendar will be wirelessly synchronised. Tasks Tasks are items that need to be done. These To Do lists are handy to keep track of those items which need to be completed. E-mail E-mail is used to send and receive messages. The software supports synchronisation of most message folders. This option is related to the Siemens internal e-mail client. The BlackBerry e-mail client has to be configured with the. Notes Notes are used to jot down reminders, questions, ideas, or anything you would write on note paper. Notes can also be used to keep information you may need later, such as directions or text you want to use in other documents. 6

Notes: The E-mail and Calendar synchronisation in the SK65 Enterprise variant is executed via the BlackBerry Built- In for Siemens SK65 Desktop Manager and the BlackBerry Sync function. The SmartSync Calendar button is not active. The SmartSync function E-mail you can use for personal account. Images/Photosuite With this programme module you can create your own images and edit them using a large number of options. You can also download images from your mobile and edit them afterwards. The Siemens Photosuite is a software component for creating and editing images and managing the images between your PC and mobile phone. The Siemens Photosuite provides a full range of drawing and editing tools, as well as sophisticated filters and effects, to produce colourful and fascinating graphics. Elaborate interface makes it simple to transfer images to/from a mobile phone and change the mobile phone graphic settings. Sounds & MP3s Siemens Sounds is a software component that helps you manage audio files and their collections, both in your Siemens mobile phone and in the local memory of your computer. It has a simple and intuitive graphic user interface providing you with access to all module-specific features, as well as to standard operations encountered in any Windows application. You can also convert audio files from one format into another or read audio CDs and use their individual tracks. 7

BLACKBERRY BUILT-IN DESKTOP MANAGER To start the BlackBerry Built-In for Siemens SK65 Desktop Manager, open the Mobile Phone Manager and click on the BlackBerry button. The is the user s control center for the Backup and Restore, the BlackBerry Sync and the Redirector Settings function. Note: It is not possible, to start the MPM and the BlackBerry Desktop Manager simultaneously. Only one application can run at a time, either the MPM or the. By starting the BlackBerry Desktop Manager, the MPM will close automatically. Note: BlackBerry Sync and Redirector Settings are only available with the SK65 Enterprise Server variant. 8

APPLICATIONS OF THE BLACKBERRY BUILT-IN DESKTOP MANAGER Backup and Restore Simply Backup and Restore the BlackBerry specific data and settings of your SK65 by using this function. You can choose between different options: for instance a scheduling assistant for automatic backups. 9

BlackBerry Sync (SK65 Enterprise Server variant) Use this application to synchronize and configure your SK65 BlackBerry with your desktop and your Microsoft Outlook or Lotus Notes data. For instance, you can choose the actions to occur when your SK65 is connected to your Enterprise Server. 10

Redirector Settings (SK65 Enterprise Server variant) With BlackBerry, users do not need to retrieve their e-mail messages, but they might not want to receive all messages on their SK65. The BlackBerry Desktop Redirector provides extensive filtering options that enable the user to control the flow and priority of new messages. The user can filter messages based on a wide range of criteria. Filters are set in in the Redirector Settings window, on the Filters tab, and are stored on the Microsoft Exchange or Lotus Domino Server. 11

Users can define which messages are sent to the SK65 by assigning the following actions to messages that meet specific filter criteria: forward the message to the SK65 do not forward the message to the SK65 forward the message with priority to the SK65 Note: Priority messages appear on the SK65 differently from normal messages and users can set specific notifications for them. By defining filters, users can complete the following actions: set filters to leave bulk mailings on their desktop, which they can view and address at a later time set filters to notify them immediately of messages from their superiors or coworkers set filters to forward only important e-mail to their SK65 SECURITY The BlackBerry solution uses the Triple DES encryption algorithm to secure data that is sent between a SK65 and desktop computer. The encryption algorithm itself is only part of a secure private key encryption system. Potential areas of weakness in any encryption system include generation of the key, transfer of the key, and security of the keys. Because computers are too deterministic to generate a purely random encryption key, good private key solutions require human-produced randomness to generate a key. When the BlackBerry Desktop Software is installed, a dialogue box appears that prompts the user to move the mouse. At this point, random mouse movements are captured to generate a random key. Because the key must be known only to the desktop and the SK65, the security of the key transfer between the desktop and the SK65 is extremely important. If the key is not transferred over a secure link, eavesdroppers can intercept the key exchange. The BlackBerry solution uses the cradle s private serial connection between the desktop and the SK65 to transfer keys. 12
